Man United and Spurs in trouble as Jeff Stelling predicts Premier League’s games

Jeff Stelling is predicting another difficult weekend for Manchester United and Tottenham in the Premier League.

In the third week of the new season, both sides are desperate to get their second wins of the campaign, but face clashes against their respective bogey teams.

While West Ham host Manchester City on Saturday evening, it’s the Sunday’s fixtures which have really caught Jeff’s eye.

Tottenham travel to Newcastle having lost 6-1 and 4-0 respectively on their last two visits to St James’ Park.

Meanwhile United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford knowing that they’ve won two of their last three home clashes against their rivals.

They have, however, conceded 26 goals in their last eight games against the Merseysiders.

Here talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast host Stelling runs the rule over the weekend’s biggest fixtures.

    West Ham vs Man City

Home fixtures get no easier for West Ham at the start of this season.

Listen to this, they’ve taken three points from the last 57 home and away against Manchester City.

Erling Haaland’s got four in four against the Hammers and I think West Ham are going to have a decent season, but the wait for a home win will go on, in my opinion.

Jeff’s prediction: West Ham 0-2 Man City

    Newcastle United vs Tottenham

Newcastle United take on Tottenham and Spurs have taken a couple of proper beatings on their last two visits to St James’ Park – conceding ten goals in two matches.

Tottenham look like they might be vulnerable to Newcastle’s counter-punching style – Alexander Isak got four of those ten goals that I mentioned and he could be on the score sheet again.

I think Newcastle are going to get their second home win of the season.

    Jeff’s prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Tottenham

Scott McTominay shares heartwarming moment with young Manchester United fan who gives him parting gift as he leaves Old Trafford for final time ahead of joining Napoli

    Manchester United vs Liverpool

It’s my game of the week and in fact, it’s the game of the season so far.

Just to add a little bit of extra spice, in case it was needed, it’s a case of double Dutch with Erik ten Hag against Arne Slot – they’ve met four times as managers in the past and they can’t be separated with two wins apiece so far.

Mo Salah absolutely loves a trip to Old Trafford – he’s scored in each of his last six appearances there.

In fact, he just loves facing Manchester United with an astonishing 14 goals in the last 11 games he’s played against them – absolutely astonishing.

I love Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the defence for Manchester United, he marshals the defence marvelously and is willing to put his body on the line when it’s required which is just as well because he’s going to need to this weekend.

I can only see an away win here.

Jeff’s prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool

  • Why is Newcastle vs Tottenham kicking off at 1:30pm this weekend?

Why is Newcastle vs Tottenham kicking off at 1:30pm this weekend?

Newcastle’s big game against Tottenham this weekend is set to start at an odd time.

The Magpies and Spurs are set to come head-to-head on Sunday, with both clubs aiming for top-four finishes this year, but the game isn’t going to start at a normal time.

Top-flight matches scheduled on Sundays normally start at either 2pm or 4:30pm, but this one, along with Chelsea‘s home tie against Crystal Palace, is set to start at 1:30pm.

But why is that the case?

Why is Newcastle vs Tottenham starting at 1:30pm?

Manchester United‘s match against Liverpool on the same day has been moved from a 4:30pm kick-off to a 4pm time.

This was announced in July when the first TV selections were made public.

Man United games against Liverpool have been moved in the past due to police requests.

Sometimes, these are specified in club statements, and other times, they aren’t.

This time, nothing has been said from Liverpool or Man United about their match starting 30 minutes earlier.

But because it is starting earlier, it means this match has also been moved because it has been picked for TV broadcast as well.

The clash at St James’ Park is set to be screened on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League.

As with the match at Old Trafford, this is may be a slight inconvenience for fans, and Spurs supporters will have to get earlier transport for the long journey to the north east.

This is usually a game that is full of goals, so fans from both sides will likely forgive the slight change to their routine if it’s another entertaining spectacle.

Newcastle vs Spurs LIVE: Time, squads, how to follow and why it’s being played

Newcastle are taking on Premier League rivals Tottenham in a bizarre post-season friendly in Australia this morning.

Both teams have travelled to the other side of the world just days after their final Premier League games of the season at the weekend.

Spurs booked a place in the Europa League next campaign with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United while the Magpies beat Brentford 4-2 to finish seventh.

However, they don’t have any time to rest, as they are playing again just three days later – Down Under!

Newcastle vs Tottenham: Why is it being played?

There have been so many questions about why the players have been forced to play in Australia.

It is very strange to have to travel across the world for a friendly, with the squads getting onto their planes on the same day as their last game of the Premier League campaign.

However, Newcastle will face Tottenham as part of Global Football Week Melbourne.

The top-flight rivals will meet in one of three games during the special week, with Toon also taking on an A-League All-Stars team on Friday.

Arsenal Women are also travelling Down Under to take on an A-League Women’s All-Stars team.

For Tottenham, it also means a homecoming for Ange Postecoglou, who returns to his birth country of Australia for the game.

Newcastle vs Tottenham: What has been said?

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has been left baffled by the decision to play on the other side of the world so soon after the Premier League’s final day.

“Can you imagine if you’re a player who is playing in either the Copa America or Euro 2024 having to do that? Madness. Crazy,” Shearer told Match Of The Day.

“I wouldn’t be happy at all. It’s crazy for Newcastle to go and play Spurs there on Wednesday night and then another game.”

However, Magpies boss Eddie Howe believes it is a good thing for the club.

“I think it’s important we grow the name of Newcastle at every opportunity we get,” he said.

“You are sort of cocooned in England. You understand there is a wider support base, but if you are not exposed it then it’s difficult to understand it.”
