Newcastle defender Lewis Hall has suffered Wembley heartbreak after being ruled out of the Carabao Cup final, talkSPORT understands.
Hall faces a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury, ruling him out of the Wembley showdown with Liverpool on March 16.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe was braced for the worst after Hall missed Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at home to Brighton.
That is after picking up an ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last week.
Those fears have now been confirmed after seeking specialist advice.
While it’s unclear just how long he’ll be ruled out for, the Wembley clash in under two weeks’ time will come too soon.
Speaking after the Brighton game, Eddie Howe said: “We’re waiting to see.
“It is an ankle problem that Lewis Hall picked up after the Liverpool game and had some pain towards the end of the game.
“He didn’t really recover well, he has a bit of swelling there.
“So he had a scan and now he has been to see a specialist. We are awaiting further news.”
As a result it means that Newcastle could be without their first-choice left-side pairing.
Newcastle are already without Anthony Gordon due to suspension as they bid to end their trophy drought.

The winger picked up a red card after losing his head during the 2-1 defeat to the Seagulls at the weekend.
While it had been suggested that the Magpies could look to appeal the ban, the club have decided not to which means that a three-match ban will stand.
As a result he’ll miss the trip to West Ham, the Carabao Cup final and the home clash with Brentford on April 2.
Hall and Gordon were set to be tasked with keeping Liverpool’s dangerous right-flank quiet at Wembley.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have been prolific down the flank.
With Newcastle’s first-choice pairing now sidelined, it means that Eddie Howe will have to come with an alternate plan.

Hall was also expected to be named in Thomas Tuchel‘s first England squad for the international fixtures this month.
The Three Lions will take on Albania and Latvia with the Newcastle star expected to play at left-back, however his latest injury blow could end his hopes of featuring.
Hall has been a key player for Newcastle this term.
In 34 appearances for the club, he has contributed to
During Newcastle’s stunning 11-minute destruction of Nottingham Forest, Alexander Isak claimed an impressive bit of Premier League history.
The striker scored two of the Magpies four goals between the 23rd and 34th minutes of the match at St. James’ Park – and set a new record for his country on the way.

Isak now has 50 Premier League goals
The two efforts made it 50 in 76 English top flight games for Isak, who is now the league’s all-time top scoring Swede.
Entering the match level with Arsenal great Freddie Ljungberg, he went ahead with a penalty smashed down the middle of the goal, and then another dink, leaving Forest’s Matz Sels fuming.
Reaching half a century, the 25-year-old became the seventh-fastest player to do so, with his 76 games fewer than big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.
The Stockholm native is now on 19 league goals this season, with only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah boasting more on 24.

His goals came among an astonishing flurry from Newcastle who looked like they may be in trouble after going 1-0 down early.
Callum Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring in the eighth minute as an out-of-position and returning Nick Pope may have caused some concern among his defenders.
Yet Lewis Miley hit back in the 23rd minute before Jacob Murphy’s go-ahead goal and Isak’s double.
Burnley will demand £30million for Newcastle goalkeeper James Trafford, talkSPORT understands.
The Magpies are confident of finally signing Trafford this summer after several previous failed attempts to prise him away from Turf Moor.

Trafford has been in startling formCredit: Rex
But Burnley believe they can command a high price for their England World Cup hopeful, especially if they are promoted to the Premier League.
Trafford has kept 23 clean sheets this season and has not conceded a goal for more than 1,000 minutes.
The 19-time England U21 international is a product of Manchester City’s famed academy and has made a name of one of the nation’s best young shot-stoppers since signing for Burnley permanently for £15m in 2022.
This season he’s been in stunning form where Burnley have conceded a miserly nine goals in 33 games, 11 fewer than any other Championship side.
He’s also from the north, in Cumbria, where many Newcastle fans reside, and delighted the fanbase with some heroics against rivals Sunderland in January.
Trafford saved two penalties in the 0-0 draw, and after the second appeared to replicate the celebration of Magpie Alexander Isak.
His incredible form even led to investor and NFL great J.J. Watt joking that he could come out of retirement to try his hand at football due to Burnley being so water-tight at the back.
“You don’t allow a goal for the rest of the season and it’s a deal,” the 35-year-old said in a text.

He backtracked on that statement later in the week, but his decision to leave star goal scorer Erling Haaland on the bench, after he hobbled off the pitch during their 4-0 league win against Newcastle, showed that Guardiola probably did believe it.
Then as Mbappe ran riot with a hat-trick and Real took the tie 6-3, Guardiola’s initial assessment looked like it may have been too generous.
Real were clinical in booking a date with either fierce rivals Atletico Madrid or German outfit Bayer Leverkusen in the next phase, while for City with their Premier League campaign long gone, only the FA Cup remains in their quest for silverware this season.
It took just four minutes for Real to essentially kill off any potential contest.
It was the home side’s first attacking play of the match as Raul Asencio lobbed a long ball forward, City defender John Stones, who went off injured three minutes later, missed his header and Kylian Mbappe pounced out the back.
The French superstar scored an ugly, scrappy goal off his shin to open Real’s account at the Etihad a week ago, but this was a much classier finish with City goalkeeper Ederson half coming out towards him, and Mbappe coolly lobbed the ball into the net.

He added a second, and truly buried any hope of a City comeback, in the 33rd minute as Real’s electric front three proved too hot to handle.
Vinicius Junior played a key hand in all three Real goals last week, and the Brazilian was instrumental again in this one, breaking through City’s defensive line and charging down the right wing before crossing into Mbappe.
City defender Gvardiol was left humbled as he ended up on his backside after Mbappe stunningly cut inside of him, and finished at the near-post.
Mbappe’s third came on the hour as he collected the ball on the edge of the box, cut past Phil Foden and buried into the far corner with his weaker left foot.
It was the 26-year-old’s second hat-trick since joining Real from PSG last year.
City at least got onto the scoresheet when Nico Gonzalez tapped into an empty net in the second minute of added time after Omar Marmoush’s superb free kick ricocheted off the crossbar.
– Extra time thriller –
PSV and Juventus are off to extra time with the Dutch side leading their home leg 2-1 to level things up at 3-3.
Ismael Saibari’s second half goal levelled the aggregate scores for PSV.
– PSG hammerBrest –
Paris Saint-Germain can look forward to a showdown with either Liverpool or Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League after mercilessly crushing French rivals Brest 7-0 on Wednesday to win their play-off round tie 10-0 on aggregate.
PSG were always overwhelming favourites to beat Brest and effectively killed off the tie with a 3-0 win in Brittany in the first leg last week.
There were seven different goal-scorers in the return at the Parc des Princes, with Bradley Barcola, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha, Desire Doue, Nuno Mendes, Goncalo Ramos and Senny Mayulu netting for the home side.
It is PSG’s record winning margin in a European game and the first time they have scored seven in the Champions League since they trounced Celtic 7-1 in November 2017.
PSG scored just three goals in their first five Champions League matches this season, but have found the net 21 times in five outings since then.
Their dominant display here came despite Ousmane Dembele failing to add to the 18 goals he had netted in his previous 12 appearances for Luis Enrique’s side.
It was an agonising way for Brest to end their first-ever European campaign, after they made it to the knockout stages following a historic third-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
Being drawn against PSG was an anti-climax for Brest. They have not beaten the Parisians in 40 years and have now lost 19 of the last 20 meetings of the clubs.
Brest did almost take the lead early on as a Mathias Pereira Lage shot was blocked in front of the line by Marquinhos, before PSG struck in the 20th minute.
Barcola, on the left, controlled a Fabian Ruiz ball over the top before beating goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert at the near post for his 16th goal of the season.
Kvaratskhelia made it 2-0 six minutes before the break, turning in his second goal for his new club after Barcola had flicked on a low Joao Neves cross.
Neves smashed a shot against the crossbar in first-half stoppage time and Pierre Lees-Melou then hit the post for Brest early in the second half.
However, a lovely strike from the edge of the area by Vitinha made it 3-0 just before the hour mark, and Ramos then produced a delightful piece of skill to tee up fellow substitute Doue for the fourth.
Achraf Hakimi set up Mendes to tap in the fifth midway through the second half and Ramos made it six from close range on 76 minutes with his ninth goal of the campaign.
Abdallah Sima had a goal for Brest disallowed for offside before Kvaratskhelia teed up 18-year-old Mayulu to round out the scoring on 86 minutes.
PSG will find out the identity of their next opponents when the draw for the remainder of the competition is made on Friday.
– Dortmund ease into last 16 after Sporting stalemate –
Borussia Dortmund cruised into the last 16 of the Champions League after a goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday sealed a 3-0 aggregate victory.
Serhou Guirassy missed a second-half penalty but it mattered for nothing in the end as last season’s finalists were rarely troubled by Sporting and coasted through.
Dortmund’s reward is a last 16 game against Aston Villa or Lille. It was always a tough ask for this young Sporting side ravaged by injury to overturn the damage done in last week’s first leg, when Guirassy, Pascal Gross and Karim Adeyemi all scored.
Dortmund dominated much of the return leg on a freezing night in Germany, with Marcel Sabitzer coming closest to breaking the deadlock with a rasping drive from distance that Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva did well to palm around his post.
After the break, Dortmund got the chance to put the tie to bed from the spot when Silva was adjudged to have brought down Adeyemi in the box after Nico Schlotterbeck’s long pass split the visitors’ defence.
But Guirassy’s well-hit penalty was saved superbly by the Portuguese goalkeeper low to his right, denying the Guinean striker an 11th Champions League goal in 10 games this season.
Gio Reyna came off the bench and almost made an immediate impact against the Portuguese league leaders, hitting the post, but this was a night when Dortmund created little and Sporting even less, with the visitors failing to register a single shot on target.
Ultimately, Sporting lacked the ambition to turn around the tie, allowing Niko Kovac’s side to progress on the back of a relatively easy night’s work.
Woods is battling her fiancé for her baby son’s footballing allegianceCredit: Getty
Unfortunately for Woods, her fiancé Adam Collard is a passionate Newcastle fan.
With Arsenal already down 2-0 from the first leg, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Gunners as they ventured up to St. James’ Park.
The task became even more difficult in the 19th minute when Jacob Murphy put Newcastle up 1-0 on the night and 3-0 up on aggregate.
Now that they had one foot in the final at Wembley, Collard looked to soak up the moment as little Leo was dressed in a Newcastle babygrow with the wording ‘Toon Army’ on the front.
Collard then held Leo’s arm and helped his newborn do a little dance, much to Woods’ chagrin.
The former Love Island contestant shared the moment on his Instagram story, which was subsequently reposted by Woods.
Woods added the caption: “Genuinely not sure what’s worse, the goal or the Xmas pyjamas.”
Anthony Gordon compounded Woods and Arsenal’s woes even further when he struck in the 52nd minute to cement Newcastle’s spot at Wembley.
In a previous Instagram story, Collard shared a picture of Leo in a baby grow that read ‘Mini Magpie’.

“If you aren’t first you’re last… @laurawoodsy,” Collard wrote.
Woods reposted the image and added: “Fuming.”
Although Woods may be losing the battle to win over Leo’s footballing loyalty, at least for now, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has done his part to help out the former talkSPORT host.
Arteta and Woods crossed paths at the Emirates Stadium last December as the Gunners boss took the opportunity to hand over several gifts for Leo, who had not been born yet.
Included in the gift bag was a bear and multiple Arsenal baby outfits.
Woods dubbed the presents ‘too cute’ as she shared a closer look at one of the baby grows with her followers.

Collard has already made moves to secure little Leo as a Newcastle fanCredit: instagram / @laurawoodsy
But as hard as Woods may try to ensure Leo ends up an Arsenal fan, a Newcastle win in the Carabao Cup final could mean her efforts are futile.
The Magpies await either Tottenham or Liverpool in the final, with Ange Postecoglou’s side holding a slender 1-0 advantage going into the second leg at Anfield on Thursday night.
Newcastle will be out to win their first major trophy since the FA Cup in 1955.
Interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni says there’s a “good chance” captain Sam Kerr could be available for two fixtures against Korea in April despite questions hanging over the superstar amid shock revelations in a London court.

As part of an early sighter against prospective opponents for the home AFC Asian Cup in 2026, the Matildas will play the Korea Republic in Sydney and Newcastle.
Having said on Monday, as he announced Kerr would miss the SheBelieves Cup tournament in the US later in February, Sermanni said he believed the skipper, who is running strongly in her return from an ACL injury, could play in March.
That timeline could allow Kerr, who is on trial in London having been charged with causing racially aggravated harassment to a police constable, to feature in the two internationals which Sermanni on Tuesday said could be on the cards.
“Right now, I would say there’s a decent chance that she will be fit,” Sermanni said.
“But then, by that stage, she’s not played for probably 15 months.
“A lot of things will potentially depend on what her schedule is with Chelsea, how quickly or how slowly, rather, and safely, we need to bring her back.”
FA boss James Johnson said the matches against Korea would be crucial in the lead-up to the Asian Cup.
“We are delighted to secure Korea Republic for our first home international series of 2025. As we build towards the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, facing high-calibre opposition like Korea Republic is crucial in sharpening the team’s competitive edge,” he said.
“With the tournament just over a year away, this series offers fans an exciting preview of the level of competition they can expect on home soil. We look forward to seeing our passionate supporters fill Allianz Stadium and McDonald Jones Stadium to back the CommBank Matildas.”
The matches will be played on Friday, April 4 at Allianz Stadium and then on Monday, November 7 in Newcastle.
Kieron Dyer could have been a part of Arsenal’s Invincibles had he not rushed into a decision as a young footballer.
The speedy winger was the talk of English football after progressing through the ranks at Ipswich Town during the late 90s.
3
Dyer moved to Newcastle in 1999, but things could have been very differentCredit: Getty Images – Getty
After failing to win promotion in the 1998/99 campaign, interest was building in Dyer who told talkSPORT there were other offers on the table when he completed a £6.5million move to Newcastle.
Speaking to Drive, Dyer explained a move away from his boyhood club was inevitable having come so close to the Premier League in a team with highly-rated players.
He said: “We had Richard Wright, myself, James Scowcroft and David Johnson – really good young players so the director’s box was full of scouts and it was always in the paper that we were probably going to be leaving that summer, so it was kind of expected.
“I remember coming back from pre-season and [manager] George Burley pulls me into the office and says, ‘We haven’t received any offers that we want to accept so if you start the season with us you have to get your head down’. I said, ‘Yeah, of course.’
“Then we finished training and someone said ‘the gaffer wants to see you in his office’ and I go there and he says, ‘We’ve just accepted an offer for six and a half million, so you need to go now.’
“I had to drive to Stansted airport and meet my agent before flying to Newcastle.
“But if I’d have been a bit more wise I probably wouldn’t have ended up in Newcastle.
“At the time, Arsenal wanted me with Arsene Wenger, I spoke to David O’Leary and Leeds on the phone, I spoke to Harry Redknapp who was manager of West Ham at the time.”
Signed by Ruud Gullit in 1999, Dyer ended up spending eight years at St James’ Park between 1997 and 2007 where he made 250 appearances for the club.
While clearly enjoying his time in the north east, the midfielder failed to win a single piece of silverware, something that can’t be said for the Gunners in that period.
3
Dyer made 250 appearances for Newcastle, but failed to win a trophyCredit: Getty
Arsenal enjoyed a true period of dominance under Wenger in those years, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and as many Community Shields.
It was also an era that goes down in football history, with Wenger’s side being dubbed ‘The Invincibles’ due to going the entire 2003/2004 Premier League season without losing a game.
While he got to play with record scorer Alan Shearer among others at Newcastle, at Arsenal he could lined up alongside Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires to name a few.
Reflecting on the other interested clubs, he said: “If I’d have known what I know now, I’d have said, ‘I want to wait a bit’ and seen if Arsenal or Leeds would have increased their bid because I had the chance to be a part of the Invincibles squad.”
Laughing at his youthful thinking, he added: “Because you’re so young and naive – plus my agent told me what Newcastle were offering – it was like, ‘Ooff we go’, sort of thing.
“You don’t really know because you have no experience.”
3
Dyer scored 36 goals for Newcastle in all competitions before leaving in 2007Credit: Getty Images – Getty
Dyer had, at times, a strained relationship with Newcastle, but showed plenty of times why the club paid so much money for one of the most talented young players in the country.
He joined West Ham in 2007 and retired from playing in 2013 after short spells at QPR and Middlesbrough in addition to a stint back at Ipswich.
While Arsenal haven’t won a league title since 2004, they are currently competing for the top-flight for a third consecutive season.
Though they look set to miss out once again with leaders Liverpool sit points clear, with Arne Slot’s men also having a game in hand.
As for Newcastle, they are in contention to secure Champions League football for the second time in three years with the Toon sitting in sixth spot – two points off the top four.

Newcastle are eyeing up a summer move to sign Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, talkSPORT understands.
The 26-year-old only made the move to St Mary’s in August after losing the No.1 spot at Arsenal.
3
Ramsdale has 40 clean sheets in 166 Premier League appearancesCredit: Getty
But he could be set for yet another transfer with Magpies boss Eddie Howe a huge admirer of the England international.
Rumours have circulated that the Magpies could make a move for Ramsdale this month amid a possible Martin Dubravka exit.
However it is understood that the St James’ Park outfit do not have the funds to sign the player in the winter transfer window.
Dubravka is claimed to have a deal lined up to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab, but Howe is desperate to keep him at the club until the summer.
The Slovakian is currently in the final six months of his contract at Newcastle, with the club running the risk of losing him on a free.
Meanwhile, question marks still remain over whether injured goalkeeper Nick Pope is the right man for Newcastle.
And this has led to Newcastle to weigh up a move for Ramsdale at the end of the campaign.
It was only last summer that saw Ramsdale link up with Southampton for an initial £18million.
Should he depart the south coast side later this year, it would be his fourth permanent transfer since 2020.
That year saw him link up with Sheffield United from Bournemouth following the Cherries’ relegation from the Premier League.

Ramsdale has kept less clean sheets than Dubravka this season – despite playing eight matches more
Just a year later, he joined the Gunners in a deal rising to £30m after he was unable to help the Blades remain in the top-flight.
Ramsdale started off the 2021/22 season as Bernd Leno’s back-up, but quickly became the first choice where he cemented himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates.
However, David Raya’s move to Arsenal in 2023 put Ramsdale’s place between the sticks in jeopardy.
And it quickly became clear that the Spaniard was Mikel Arteta’s No.1, resulting in Ramsdale spending the majority of last campaign on the bench.
Things haven’t gone to plan at Southampton this term, with Ramsdale’s side rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points from 20 games.
In 13 Premier League appearances, he has shipped in a whopping 27 goals – keeping just two clean sheets.

England international Morgan Gibbs-White and the in-form Chris Wood struck before half-time to take Forest to within six points of leaders Liverpool, who they host in their next Premier League game.
Substitute Taiwo Awoniyi rounded off the scoring in stoppage time. Defeat leaves Wolves outside the relegation zone only thanks to goal difference as they suffered a first defeat under new boss Vitor Pereira.
Forest remain third in the table but move level on points with Arsenal. Even if a shock title challenge proves beyond Espirito Santo’s men, they are building up an impressive cushion in the race for Champions League football next season.
They are five points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle and six in front of struggling champions Manchester City in sixth.
A top-four finish would guarantee a return to the continent’s elite competition for the first time in 45 years for the two-time European champions.
However, fifth could also be good enough depending on how English clubs fare in European competition this season.
Gibbs-White savoured his return to the club where he spent the early part of his career.
In front of the watching new England manager Thomas Tuchel, the midfielder did his case for further international recognition no harm with a cool finish from Antony Elanga’s pass.
Forest’s unexpected rise from battling relegation until the final day of last season into Champions League contenders has been build on a solid defence and Wood’s purple patch.

The New Zealand international turned in Callum Hudson-Odoi’s low cross for his 12th goal of the season to double the visitors’ lead just before half-time.
Wolves pressed and probed for a way back into the game after the break but were toothless in the absence of talisman Matheus Cunha through suspension.
Mats Sels was forced into one brilliant save to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen to preserve a ninth clean sheet of the season and fourth in a row.
That solidity is familiar to Wolves fans from Espirito Santo’s time in charge of their club between 2017 and 2021.
The Portuguese coach led Wanderers from the Championship into Europe for the first time in 39 years.
Now after troubled spells at Tottenham and Saudi club Al-Ittihad, he is recreating that magic to leave Forest fans in dreamland.
Goalkeeper Brandon Austin is set to make a long-awaited Tottenham debut against Newcastle on Saturday, talkSPORT understands.
Under-pressure manager Ange Postecoglou is without back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster due to a sickness bug in the Tottenham camp.

First-choice Guglielmo Vicario remains out with a long-term ankle injury.
Austin joined Spurs nine years ago but has never made a competitive senior appearance in English football.
Tottenham are without a number of players due to injury and suspension, including first-choice defenders Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Postecoglou’s men are currently 11th and in the middle of their worst league run since 2008, having failed to win any of their last three matches.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have won their last four top-flight fixtures by an aggregate score of 13-0, with striker Alexander Isak in red-hot form.
Austin spent time on loan at Danish club Viborg FF in 2019 and MLS side Orlando City in 2021.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham in May 2024 and it was expected he would become second-choice behind Vicario.
Austin is known to be gifted with the ball at his feet, having made 78 appearances for Tottenham’s various youth teams.
Although Forster is unwell, question marks about his suitability to Spurs’ style have come up in Vicario’s absence, with Tottenham conceding 15 goals in their last seven outings.
Against Manchester United in the 4-3 League Cup win, Forster was at fault for two goals, but has retained his manager’s backing.

talkSPORT understands Tottenham are also considering a January swoop for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.
Newcastle, West Ham and Brentford are also keen on the former Chelsea centre-back amid his recent struggles in Italy.
Speaking on Friday, under-pressure Postecoglou said: “It’s not a matter of pushing but I think the club are working hard to try and sort of get some help for the playing group and it’s no secret, we need to bolster our numbers up a little bit. January is not an easy month.
“We understand it’s not an easy time to bring people in particularly quickly. At the same time we still want to make sure we do what we think is the best thing for us rather than sort of just, you know, panic and bring people in who aren’t going to be a suitable fit.
“They are not having New Year parties, they are out there working trying to improve our situation and they’ll continue to do so.”
