IPL 2025: Fans erupt as Nitish Rana’s blazing knock helps RR pull off a thriller against CSK

In the 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The contest turned out to be a thriller where Rajasthan managed to overcome Chennai and register their first win of the tournament.

Nitish Rana’s fireworks propel Rajasthan Royals to a big total

After being asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals faced early trouble as Yashasvi Jaiswal departed cheaply. Captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag played supporting roles, but the innings truly came alive with Nitish Rana’s sensational knock. The left-hander dismantled the CSK bowling attack, hammering 10 fours and five sixes at a staggering strike rate of 225. His 81 off 36 balls ensured RR reached a competitive total.

Riyan Parag (37 off 28) played a crucial second-fiddle role, while Shimron Hetmyer (19 off 16) provided some late fireworks. However, RR lost wickets in quick succession towards the end, with Khaleel Ahmed (2/38), Noor Ahmad (2/28), and Matheesha Pathirana (2/28) leading CSK’s fightback with the ball.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja keep CSK in fight

Chasing 183, CSK had a nightmare start as Rachin Ravindra fell for a duck. Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings, with Gaikwad leading from the front. His 63 off 44 balls, studded with seven fours and a six, kept CSK in the hunt. Shivam Dube and Vijay Shankar chipped in with handy cameos, but it was Ravindra Jadeja who nearly took the game away with his composed 32 off 22.

With MS Dhoni at the crease in the final overs, CSK fans hoped for a magical finish. However, Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers held their nerve, with Wanindu Hasaranga emerging as the hero. His exceptional spell of 4/35 included the crucial wickets of Gaikwad and Jadeja, turning the tide in RR’s favor. Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma also contributed with tight spells, ensuring CSK fell just short at 176/6.

Rajasthan Royals seal a nail-biting victory

Despite a late flourish from Jamie Overton (11 off 4), CSK couldn’t cross the finish line, as RR bowlers executed their plans to perfection in the final overs. Hasaranga’s match-winning spell, supported by Archer’s early breakthroughs and disciplined bowling from Theekshana, helped RR clinch a thrilling six-run victory.

  • Nitish Rana fires back at Manoj Tiwary over Gautam Gambhir’s criticism post-BGT 2024-25 loss

Nitish Rana fires back at Manoj Tiwary over Gautam Gambhir’s criticism post-BGT 2024-25 loss

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Nitish Rana has strongly defended Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir after Manoj Tiwary’s recent criticism following the national team’s embarrassing drubbing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter had called Gautam Gambhir a “hypocrite” and slammed the coach for pushing the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to the forefront to deal with all the issues. Further, Tiwary had questioned Gambhir’s success at KKR, suggesting that his public relations game allowed him to take credit for the team’s achievements.

Performance doesn’t need any PR: Nitish Rana slams Manoj Tiwary

Reacting to the controversial statement, Nitish Rana, who played with Gambhir at Delhi and KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL), shot down these claims by labeling them as Manoj Tiwary’s insecurities. Rana emphasized Gambhir’s positive influence, adding that the legendary cricketer’s contributions to KKR’s triumphs go beyond the limelight.

Slamming Manoj Tiwary, Nitish Rana posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle: “Criticism should be based on facts, not personal insecurities. Gauti bhaiyya is one of the most selfless players I’ve ever met. He shoulders responsibility in times of distress like no other. Performance doesn’t need any PR. The trophies speak for themselves.”

Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite: Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary has criticized both India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, and batting coach, Abhishek Nayar, questioning their value and accusing them of blindly agreeing with whatever the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, says. He went on to label Gambhir a “hypocrite,” alleging that the Indian head coach does not practice what he preaches.

Manoj Tiwary was quoted as saying by News18 Bangla: “What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir, and the Indian head coach has a comfort zone with him. Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn’t do what he says. The captain is from Mumbai; Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront by them to deal with all the issues.”

Manoj Tiwary says Gautam Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to IPL title single-handedly

Furthermore, Manoj Tiwary has weighed in on the rumored tension between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, questioning how they could work effectively together. Tiwary highlighted the contrasting leadership experiences. Tiwary also said that Gambhir did not win the IPL titles alone, as the entire team, including players like Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and himself, contributed to the success. Tiwary also pointed out that Gambhir took much of the credit for KKR’s achievements.

Tiwary had added, “How will they work together? Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain. While Gambhir led KKR to IPL titles both as a captain and mentor. Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly, as we all performed as a unit. Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and I all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit?”

Notably, India has lost six out of the 10 Tests since Gautam Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach of the Indian cricket team. Under Gambhir’s leadership, India lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka. Gambhir’s next major challenge is the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“Sometimes, we create stories in our minds, thinking that if I ask this question, will I be judged? But, in all my time working with him, the common fear many players have—that if they speak to someone, they’ll be judged—was never a concern for me from the very first day.”

“I just told him that I played under him in my first series and I want to make a comeback to the Indian team. I will need your help because your guidance matters a lot to me. He accepted and said, ‘We will do the hard work. ‘Franchise or tere career ke liye jo possible cheez hogi wo karenge’. (“We will do everything possible for the franchise and your career.”)

Among their star players, one such talent is Rinku Singh, who is known for his stellar performances and ability to sway matches and secure victories even in the direst situations.

Despite his on-field heroics, Rinku is recognized as a reserved individual who prefers to avoid the spotlight. In a video that circulated online, reportedly from two years ago, KKR players were seen on a plane heading for an IPL match. Rinku was seated beside Nitish in the footage. The former KKR skipper recounted a playful incident where he had encouraged Rinku to humorously imagine him as a lady and propose, to which Rinku reluctantly agreed.

Nitish had captured the moment on his phone, in which Rinku was holding a flower pot and mimicking a proposal. Nitish then took out his mobile and revealed the recording. When Nitish showed the video, Rinku appeared visibly embarrassed and covered his face before bursting into laughter. “Hi baby, I propose you,” Rinku said in the video.

  • Nitish Rana’s 3 qualities in IPL 2023 that show he can be a good player for India

Nitish Rana’s 3 qualities in IPL 2023 that show he can be a good player for India

Nitish Rana was appointed Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2023. The young left-hander has been impressive as a leader of the side and seems to have earned the respect of the dressing room. Rana has led from the front and has not shied away from taking bold calls and being strategic and accountable for his own actions.

His form with the bat has been good all season and he has also shown that he is a capable bowler. He has scored 405 runs in 13 innings this season and was one of the reasons why KKR beat Chennai Super Kings for the first time in 11 years in Chennai.

Nitish Rana has grown as a player and as a leader and the Indian selectors will be keeping a close eye on him in the near future.

Here we take a look at Nitish Rana’s 3 qualities in IPL 2023 that show he can be a good player for India:

    #3 Makes quick decisions

Rana has looked at ease while taking tough decisions
Rana has looked at ease while taking tough decisions

Nitish Rana is an important player for Delhi and has shown he can handle pressure in the IPL. He has always been a talented player, but this season, he has shown that he can make his own decisions and stick with them.

For instance, he opened the bowling against Rajasthan Royals and although he was taken for plenty by Yashasvi Jaiswal, he was still confident in his decision-making abilities.

He was very tactical in the way he used his spinners against the Chennai Super Kings in the last match and his press conferences have been extremely honest. These traits can make him a real asset for India in the near future as there will be an assured presence in the side.

    #2 Extremely handy off-spin

Nitish Rana bowls some decent off-spin

A top-order batter who can roll his arm over and give four overs on a consistent basis – Nitish Rana ticks all these boxes. This season, he has been more than handy with the ball and is a player that India has always been desperate for in the recent past.

On tracks that assist spin, Rana can be a handy inclusion as he will balance the team perfectly. He has a repeatable action and more often than not, gets his line and lengths right. He has picked up three wickets this season, but over the years has accounted for Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers amongst other big names.

    #1 Solid top-order player

Rana is an excellent player in Indian conditions
Rana is an excellent player in Indian conditions

Rana has been a consistent run-scorer in the IPL as well as for Delhi in the domestic set-up. In this season, he has shown that leadership does not bog him down and that he likes taking up responsibility. He has already scored 405 runs in 13 innings at an average of 33.75.

He is an excellent player of spin as was displayed in KKR’s last match against the Chennai Super Kings. Although he has a weakness against the short ball, he has shown the ability to adapt and adjust and find ways to score runs.

Apart from all this, he can bat at different stages of an innings and can be an anchor or a finisher depending upon the situation.
