Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane complained about Prithvi Shaw’s attitude? MCA drops bombshell

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has lashed out at Prithvi Shaw after his emotional outburst on social media following his exclusion from the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, starting on Saturday, December 21.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has labeled the Indian batter as “his own enemy,” as the state body has pointed out the recurring disciplinary issues, ethics, and poor fitness as the key reasons that plagued his career.

He was part of Mumbai’s title-winning team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 but was dropped for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 due to poor fitness and form, leading the batter to take to social media to vent his frustration over his snub.

However, the MCA did not hold back in their response, saying that Prithvi Shaw’s behavior both on and off the field has violated disciplinary norms regularly. A senior MCA official revealed that Shaw’s lack of discipline was so apparent during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 that the team was often “forced to hide” him on the field due to his poor fitness levels.

The official stated that during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 matches, Shaw struggled to even reach balls hit near him, leaving the team with only 10 active fielders at times. He also claimed that Shaw frequently skipped training sessions during the SMAT after returning to the team hotel at “six in the morning” following late-night outings.

His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor: MCA

The MCA official was quoted as saying by PTI on conditions of anonymity: “In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it.”

The MCA official also noted that Shaw’s fitness and attitude issues were evident even while batting. He also revealed that the Mumbai team’s senior players have started expressing frustration over Shaw’s repeated failure to meet the team’s expectations and about his approach.

The official added, “Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching for the ball. His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor, and it is pretty simple: there cannot be different rules for different players. Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now.”

MCA slams Prithvi Shaw’s behavior, labels him “His Own Enemy”

The MCA has also made it clear that Prithvi Shaw’s emotional posts won’t change anything. The senior MCA official said that Shaw has only himself to blame for his exclusion, as he’s not even sticking to the fitness program at the MCA Academy.

The official made it crystal clear that Shaw’s poor attitude and lack of discipline have become major issues and real obstacles to his career, saying he is his own enemy. Notably, Shaw also went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction last month.

The MCA official signed off by saying, “You would be wrong to think such posts on social media would have any impact on the Mumbai selectors and the MCA. He is not following the specified fitness program at the MCA Academy as well as properly. I’ll tell you one thing. No one is Shaw’s enemy. He is his own enemy.”

  • Shreyas Iyer makes a bold remark on Prithvi Shaw’s struggles with form and fitness

Shreyas Iyer makes a bold remark on Prithvi Shaw’s struggles with form and fitness

Prithvi Shaw, once heralded as the future of Indian cricket, finds himself at a crossroads in his career. Touted as a child prodigy, Shaw’s early exploits, including leading India to victory in the U19 World Cup and a scintillating Test debut, showcased his immense potential.  However, his decline has been swift, leaving many to wonder if his career can be salvaged. While his talent remains undeniable, issues with fitness, off-field controversies, and inconsistent performances have significantly dented his reputation.

Prithvi Shaw’s domestic woes and IPL 2025 auction snub

Shaw’s domestic season in 2024 failed to inspire confidence, as he managed only 59 runs in four Ranji Trophy 2024-25 matches. His Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy performance was equally disappointing, with 197 runs across nine matches at an average of 21.88, failing to register a single half-century. Barring a 26-ball 49 in the quarterfinal, his contributions were largely forgettable, even as Mumbai clinched the title.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction further underscored his declining stature in Indian cricket, as no franchise showed interest in acquiring him. For a player once seen as a future Indian captain, this downfall serves as a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of the sport and the price of neglecting discipline and consistency.

    Shreyas Iyer’s blunt remark

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer, a teammate of Shaw and the second-most expensive player in the IPL 2025 auction, weighed in on Shaw’s predicament with a mix of admiration and critique. Iyer described Shaw as “God-gifted,” emphasizing that his talent is unmatched, but talent without the right attitude and effort holds no value in the long term. According to Iyer, Shaw’s work ethic remains a major concern, and despite repeated advice from peers and coaches, he has struggled to adopt a professional mindset.

“I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That’s true. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethics,” Iyer was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Iyer highlighted that Shaw’s issues are not new and that the batter has managed to overcome challenges in the past. However, he firmly stated that it is Shaw’s responsibility to take charge of his career, as no amount of external guidance can replace self-motivation and discipline.

“And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, you know, sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can’t force him. He has played so much of cricket. And everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to go out there and figure out things for himself,” the 30-year-old added.

    Iyer’s hard-hitting reality check

Iyer’s comments about Shaw struck a chord with cricketing circles, as he bluntly stated that professionals at the highest level need to take ownership of their careers. “We can’t babysit anyone,” Iyer remarked, pointing out that Shaw must independently figure out the solutions to his struggles. Iyer acknowledged Shaw’s past successes but stressed that continuous effort is key to sustaining success in modern cricket. He noted that Shaw has received ample advice and guidance from teammates and coaches but ultimately must step up and resolve his issues.

“We can’t babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past. It’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on and then figure out himself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything,” Iyer concluded.

    Can Shaw revive his career?

Shaw is now at a critical juncture where his career could either take a turn for the better or spiral further downward. Despite his struggles, Shaw still has age on his side and the potential to stage a comeback. To achieve this, he must undergo a complete transformation, focusing on fitness, refining his technique, and building mental resilience.

Shaw must embrace the discipline required to compete at the highest level, seeking inspiration from players who have successfully revived their careers after setbacks. His next steps will determine whether he emerges as a story of redemption or remains a cautionary tale in Indian cricket.

Best playing XI of unsold players from the IPL 2025 mega auction ft. Prithvi Shaw

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction concluded after two action-packed days in Jeddah, where ten franchises engaged in intense bidding wars, showcasing tactical brilliance and making some surprising calls. While many players secured lucrative contracts, a few big names shockingly went unsold, marking what could be the end of their IPL careers. The auction not only highlighted teams’ strategic approaches but also served as a reminder of the fierce competition for limited spots in the league.

Familiar faces left unsold: IPL 2025 mega auction

Several IPL regulars, who have been mainstays in recent seasons, failed to attract any bids this year. This surprising outcome has raised questions about their future in the tournament. Factors such as declining form, lack of recent match practice, and high base prices played a significant role in these players being overlooked.

Among the notable unsold players were seasoned veterans and emerging stars alike, whose inability to adapt to the fast-paced T20 format may have cost them a place. Teams appeared more focused on building balanced squads, prioritizing specialist players over established names with inconsistent performances. For several players, the high base prices they set seemed to work against them. Franchises, especially toward the end of Day 2, were more cautious with their remaining budget, opting to invest in lesser-known talents or younger players with potential. This left several high-profile cricketers without a contract.

IPL 2025: Best playing XI of unsold players from the mega auction

Despite going unsold, many of these players still possess the skills and experience to form a formidable playing XI. Here’s a hypothetical lineup of the top unsold players from the IPL 2025 mega auction:

    1. Prithvi Shaw

    Role: Opening Batter
Prithvi Shaw remains a dynamic batter known for his aggressive approach in the powerplay. Despite some inconsistent outings in IPL 2024, he displayed flashes of brilliance that highlighted his ability to dominate bowling attacks. Concerns over his fitness and consistency might have tempered expectations at the auction. However, his overall domestic performances showcase his readiness to reclaim his status as a powerplay enforcer.

    2. David Warner

    Role: Opening Batter (Captain)
David Warner, one of the IPL’s most successful batters, continues to deliver consistently. His leadership and experience make him a valuable asset, especially for teams seeking stability at the top of the order. Warner’s age might have raised questions, but his ability to anchor innings and adapt to challenging situations ensures he remains relevant in the shortest format.

    3. Yash Dhull

    Role: Top-Order Batter
Yash Dhull is an emerging talent whose temperament and technique have impressed in domestic cricket. Although his IPL opportunities were limited in 2023 and failed to get a game in the next edition, his potential to play the anchor role in the top order makes him a valuable prospect. Teams often look to groom such players for long-term success, given his ability to handle pressure.

    4. Daryl Mitchell

    Role: All-Rounder
Daryl Mitchell’s versatility as a middle-order batter and medium-pace bowler makes him a dependable option in T20 cricket. Despite limited match winning performance for his franchise in IPL 2024, his consistent performances in international cricket highlight his ability to adapt to various roles. His knack for handling pressure situations adds to his credentials as a utility player.

    5. Sarfaraz Khan

    Role: Middle-Order Batter
Sarfaraz Khan has built a reputation as a domestic run machine. Nevertheless, translating that success into the IPL has been challenging. His ability to play spin effectively and anchor innings gives him an edge, though questions about his adaptability in high-pressure T20 scenarios persist.

    6. Sikandar Raza

    Role: All-Rounder
Sikandar Raza showcased his potential in IPL 2024 with impactful performances. His off-spin and ability to finish games with the bat make him a multifaceted player. While consistency remains a factor, his experience and calm demeanor in crunch situations enhance his value in T20 cricket.

    7. KS Bharat

    Role: Wicketkeeper-Batter
KS Bharat is a steady performer with the bat and a reliable presence behind the stumps. While his batting style is more suited to stabilizing innings, it might not align with the explosive requirements of the IPL. His proficiency as a keeper, nonetheless, makes him a strong backup option in any squad.

    8. Shardul Thakur

    Role: All-Rounder
Shardul Thakur is a proven match-winner with his knack for picking up crucial wickets and contributing valuable runs down the order. His ability to perform in high-pressure situations, coupled with his experience, makes him a highly dependable option for any team.

    9. Jason Behrendorff

    Role: Left-Arm Pacer
Jason Behrendorff brings variety to any bowling attack with his left-arm pace and ability to swing the ball in the powerplay. Although injuries have occasionally hindered his progress, his IPL 2024 performances showcased his effectiveness, especially with the new ball.

    10. Piyush Chawla

    Role: Leg-Spinner
Piyush Chawla defied expectations with his consistent wicket-taking ability in IPL 2024. His experience and control in the middle overs make him a reliable spinner. Despite his age, Chawla’s tactical acumen and ability to deliver under pressure remain unparalleled.

    11. Shivam Mavi

    Role: Fast Bowler
Shivam Mavi’s pace and swing make him a promising prospect, though his IPL career was marred by inconsistency which included no participation in the last two seasons. His ability to bowl in the powerplay and handle the death overs with composure underscores his potential, making him a player to watch for the future.

Prithvi Shaw’s childhood coach breaks silence after the batsman goes Unsold in IPL Auction 2025

In the ever-demanding world of cricket, talent is often celebrated, but few realize that talent alone cannot guarantee longevity at the top level. Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal serve as contrasting examples of how discipline and work ethic can define a player’s career.

When Prithvi Shaw burst onto the scene, he was compared with legends like Brian Lara, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar. The world was buzzing about his potential following his Test debut century.

Jwala Singh explains Prithvi Shaw’s downfall and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise

However, cracks began to appear as Shaw’s struggle with incoming deliveries grew, raising questions about his technique, confidence, and even fitness and attitude. A young Indian prodigy faltered due to a lack of consistency.

Apart from his work ethic, the Indian opener has been under scrutiny for his poor discipline, attitude, and reported bad habits. In stark contrast, Yashasvi Jaiswal is making waves with his unwavering focus and tireless work ethic.

When asked about what sets Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal apart, their coach, Jwala Singh, highlighted a crucial difference between them, and that is the process. He explained that talent is just the seed; it takes disciplined effort, a strong lifestyle, and relentless improvement to grow into a towering tree.

The coach also highlighted how even legends like Sachin Tendulkar continually refined their craft, focusing on fitness and mental toughness to stay ahead and at the top. Notably, Shaw recently went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Jwala Singh reveals why Prithvi Shaw stuck behind

He admitted Shaw’s initial spark, but the inability to stay connected to the “process” caused his decline, saying stepping away from the core principles of discipline and consistency is a common reason behind the downfall of talented players like the Mumbai batter. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal showed the world what it means to marry talent with hard work.

The young Indian batter, who is currently playing his first Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is clear about his goals and backs them with rigorous training. According to Singh, this unwavering dedication is the defining factor that keeps Yashasvi grounded and focused on improvement.

Taking a dig at Shaw, the coach said that talent might open the door, but it’s discipline and persistence that keep a player at the highest level, and Jaiswal’s journey serves as a great example for aspiring cricketers to follow the process and work hard to achieve sustainable greatness.

Coach reveals the big difference between Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jwala Singh said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast: “I think the process, which we call work ethic, so I feel if you are talented, talent is just a seed; to make it a tree, consistency is very important in that journey, and that consistency comes from your lifestyle, your work ethic, and discipline, so what I feel is that consistency is not with him.

One can make a great start, which he did, but to stay at the top in international cricket, one has to improve his game all the time. Even Sachin Tendulkar refined his game consistently, fine-tuned his game, worked on his fitness, and worked on his mental toughness. So, I feel a player goes off track only if he gets away from the process.

You will not fall back if your process and work ethic are fine, so I feel players fail because of that. As far as Yashasvi is concerned, his work ethic is superb; he really works hard, and he knows what to do. That is the main difference.”

Ahead of the game, head coach Ricky Ponting has hinted at the possible comeback of star opener Prithvi Shaw in the playing XI.

“Yeah, he’s (Shaw) definitely pushing for it. He has worked hard in the last couple of weeks. Obviously, our team make-up in the first game without obviously (Anrich) Nortje being in allowed us to play four overseas batsmen. So by doing that, we pushed Mitchell Marsh to the top of the order, which pushed Prithvi out of the side,” said Ponting.

“So, yeah, we’ll have a really good look at Prithvi at training and see how well he plays in the nets. And if he impresses everybody today, we’ll definitely consider him for selection. We feel that a really good game is just around the corner for us. In fact, I am sure we will have a more positive intent going into this game,” he further added.

DC opening with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh

Notably, DC have been opening the innings with the pair of Australian duo David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Warner has been in good form so far registering scores of 29 (21) and 49 (34) in the two matches respectively. However, Marsh hasn’t been able to convert his starts scoring 20 (12) and 23 (12) in the two games so far.

Indian cricket fans ecstatic as Prithvi Shaw hits another county ton for Northamptonshire

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is setting the ongoing Metro Bank One-day Cup in the United Kingdom (UK) ablaze with his exceptional performances. After his record-breaking double century against Somerset last week, he continued his stunning form by smashing an unbeaten century against Durham on Sunday, August 13.

In the match against Somerset, Shaw’s explosive batting saw him score an astonishing 244 runs in just 153 balls, including an impressive tally of 28 fours and 11 sixes. Building on his momentum, the young cricketer continued his dominant run in the match against Durham.

The clash between Northamptonshire and Durham took place at the Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street and Durham’s captain Alex Lees won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite their efforts, none of the Durham batters could reach the half-century mark. Liam Trevaskis (37), Lees (34), Scott Borthwick and Migael Pretorius managed 20 runs each, leading to Durham posting 198 runs in 43.2 overs. Northamptonshire’s Luke Procter took 4 wickets for 34 runs and Rob Keogh contributed with 2 wickets.

    Shaw’s belligerent knock

In response, George Drissell removed Emilio Gay (17) and Sam Whiteman (4) from the Northamptonshire lineup. However, Shaw took charge of the innings, consistently hammering the Durham bowlers to all parts of the ground. The Thane-born cricketer reached his second consecutive century in the tournament in just 68 balls.

An over bowled by Scott Borthwick became particularly memorable in Shaw’s innings, as he struck 2 sixes and 3 fours, accumulating 24 runs in that over alone. Shaw received valuable support from Rob Keogh (42), and together they guided Northamptonshire to victory. Shaw’s unbeaten 125* runs off 76 balls, featuring 15 fours and 7 sixes, highlighted his exceptional batting prowess, with a strike rate of 164.47.

Fans were highly excited after witnessing consistent performances from the 23-year-old.

Here are some of the reactions:

It’s worth noting that Shaw has not been part of India’s international cricket squad since the team’s 2021 tour of Sri Lanka. Despite his absence, the aggressive opener has been making significant contributions on the domestic stage. His recent performances in the Metro Bank One-day Cup, including consecutive centuries on challenging English wickets, have reignited discussions about his potential return to international cricket.

With the ODI World Cup on the horizon, Shaw’s remarkable performances might earn him a spot on the expanded squad list as a backup opener. As he continues to shine for Northamptonshire, Shaw’s next challenge will be against Worcestershire on August 16 at their home ground in Northampton.

Shaw’s blazing bat turned the spotlight on him as he amassed a phenomenal score of 244 runs off just 153 deliveries. His exquisite innings featured a breathtaking array of 28 fours and 11 sixes, truly showcasing his ability to dominate any attack. This astonishing feat secured him the sixth-highest individual score in the history of List A cricket.

The impact of Shaw’s brilliance extended beyond individual glory, as his remarkable performance played a pivotal role in helping Northamptonshire amass an imposing total of 415/8 in 50 overs against their opponents.

Focus on enjoyment over selection: Shaw

Following his extraordinary batting display, Shaw candidly shared his perspective on the Indian team selection. Despite not featuring in the Indian side for over two years since July 2021, Shaw expressed his lack of concern about his current standing in the eyes of the Indian selectors. Instead, he emphasized his commitment to relishing his time with Northants.

“Definitely experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… they’re really looking after me. I’m really enjoying it,” Shaw stated, as quoted by India Today.

Shaw’s record-breaking performance in the England One-Day Cup was reminiscent of his previous achievement. In February 2021, he had scored a formidable 227 off 152 balls while representing Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Puducherry. Shaw’s recent 244-run innings surpassed this milestone, reaffirming his prowess as a formidable batsman.

Reflecting on his approach to the game, Shaw emphasized his commitment to team success. “The 227 was in my head, to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it’s 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around. I always try and win matches for the team, and I’m the kind of player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this,” Shaw added.
