Northamptonshire‘s star batter Prithvi Shaw set the cricketing world ablaze with a jaw-dropping double century during a scintillating performance in the ongoing England Domestic One-Day Cup. The explosive Indian batter, making only his third appearance in the UK domestic circuit, hammered an astonishing 244 runs off just 153 balls against Somerset.

Shaw’s innings was nothing short of a cricketing masterclass. After reaching his century, Shaw shifted into overdrive, taking only 22 balls to surge from 100 to an incredible 150. His impeccable timing, powerful strokes, and remarkable shot selection left Somerset’s bowling attack reeling. Shaw’s knock featured a staggering 25 boundaries and 8 towering sixes, leaving the crowd at the County Ground in Northampton in raptures.

Shaw’s rampage continued unabated as the match entered its final phase. Displaying extraordinary fitness and skill, he relentlessly attacked Somerset’s bowlers during the last 10 overs, propelling Northamptonshire to an imposing total of 415/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Shaw’s ability to accelerate and dominate even in the face of mounting pressure highlighted his maturity as a batter beyond his years.

From unconventional debut to double century heroics

Shaw’s presence in the England Domestic One-Day Cup has injected a fresh dynamic into the tournament. Having committed to representing Northamptonshire in both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup, Shaw joined the ranks of other prominent Indian cricketers participating in the 2022-23 UK domestic season, including Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire), Arshdeep Singh (Kent), and Navdeep Saini (Worcestershire).

Although Shaw’s journey in the England Domestic One-Day Cup has been a tale of contrasting fortunes. In his debut match against Gloucestershire, Shaw’s promising innings of 34 runs off 35 balls showcased his skill and determination. But, his dismissal, marked by accidentally kicking his own stumps while attempting a shot, drew attention for its unusual nature. Undeterred by the setback, Shaw quickly bounced back, proving his mettle and setting the stage for his remarkable double century.

In an eventful debut for Northamptonshire, Indian batting sensation Prithvi Shaw encountered a bizarre dismissal during the Group B match against Gloucestershire in the England Domestic One-Day Cup 2023.

Shaw’s much-awaited maiden appearance with the team took an unexpected turn as the 23-year-old was dismissed in a peculiar hit-wicket fashion for 34 runs. The unusual incident unfolded during the 16th over bowled by Paul van Meekeren when Shaw attempted to pull a short delivery.

However, Shaw missed the ball, lost his balance, and awkwardly fell to the ground, accidentally kicking his own stumps in the process, leading to his dismissal via hit wicket. The rare and amusing footage of this extraordinary exit quickly spread across social media, leaving cricket fans in disbelief.

In response, Northamptonshire put up a spirited chase but fell short of the target, getting bundled out for 255 runs. Tom Taylor, the bowling all-rounder, kept Northamptonshire in the hunt with a remarkable century of 112 runs off just 88 balls, comprising 16 fours and 3 maximums. Captain Lewis McManus also played a pivotal innings, scoring 54 runs, but their efforts were not enough to secure victory.

Here’s the full list of Indian players to smash a century on their Test debut

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented Indian opener, made a stunning impact on the second day of the first Test match against West Indies in Dominica. Jaiswal showcased exceptional skills and composure as he reached a magnificent century, becoming the 17th Indian player to achieve this feat on Test debut.

Resuming his innings on an overnight score of 40 not out, Jaiswal displayed a balanced approach, combining caution with positivity during his time at the crease. The 21-year-old southpaw shifted gears after the lunch break on day two, accelerating his scoring rate and quickly racing to his hundred.

Jaiswal’s century on Test debut, which came in the 70th over of India’s first innings, added him to the esteemed list of Indian players who have achieved this remarkable milestone. The most recent player to do so was middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who accomplished the feat against New Zealand at Kanpur’s Green Park in 2021.

Jaiswal also became the third Indian opener to register a Test century on debut after Shikhar Dhawan (187 vs Australia, 2013) and Prithvi Shaw (134 vs West Indies, 2018).

It is worth noting that the legendary Lala Amarnath, often regarded as the father figure of Indian cricket, holds the distinction of scoring India’s first-ever Test century. Amarnath achieved this significant feat against England in 1933, laying the foundation for a rich legacy of Indian batting prowess in the longest format of the game.

Indian players to smash a century on their Test debut:

    1. Lala Amarnath – 118 vs England (1933)
    2. Deepak Shodhan – 110 vs Pakistan (1952)
    3. AG Kripal Singh – 100 not out vs New Zealand (1955)
    4. Abbas Ali Baig – 112 vs England (1959)

‘IPL 2023 may not be Prithvi Shaw’s year’ – Tom Moody suggests Mitchell Marsh as David Warner’s opening partner ahead of KKR clash

Get every cricket updates! Follow us on

Former Australian batter Tom Moody suggested the Delhi Capitals (DC) to make a hard choice by replacing opener Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Moody stated that Mitchell Marsh should open with skipper David Warner rather than Shaw ahead of DC’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 20. Notably, in DC’s five matches, Shaw has only scored 34 runs, including two ducks.

Moody believes that IPL 2023 won’t be Shaw’s year because he is yet to make an impact. He also stated that if the franchise gives him a few more games, their chances of staying alive in the league will come to an end and DC must take steps to prevent this from happening.

“You’ve got to make a tough call on certain players that aren’t showing any light at the end of the tunnel. And on the evidence of what we’ve seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have,” Moody told ESPNcricinfo.

“It can just be, ‘oh, we’ll give him a couple more games and see what happens’. Those couple of games go, your chances as a franchise have gone. That’s why you’ve got to make that cold, hard decision at that point. This is crunch time,” he added.

Marsh is naturally an enforcer, so that would complement Warner: Moody

Marsh, who has been batting at number three for Delhi Capitals, is a natural enforcer, according to Moody. He added that Marsh will be able to complement Warner at the top of the order. Moody also wants Axar Patel to bat at number five because he has the potential to create an impact in the middle order.

“He’s (Marsh) done that before recently and he’s done it successfully. He’s naturally an enforcer, so that would complement [David] Warner, it would help him as well. You’ve got a left-right combination, you’ve got a 6ft4in and a 5ft8in batter, which is difficult to bowl to,” Moody said.

IPL 2023: Ricky Ponting advises Prithvi Shaw during practice session, latter smashes next ball over extra cover

Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Prithvi Shaw was seen sweating it out in the practice sessions under the guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting recently. Notably, Capitals have got off to a horrid start to the season with five losses on the trot in their five games thus far in the ongoing IPL 2023.

Languishing at the bottom of the table, DC have been putting the efforts in the training sessions to obtain their first points in the league. In midst of one of the sessions, Prithvi Shaw, who is himself enduring a lean patch, was seen getting some guidance from Ricky Ponting.

In the video, Shaw had a word with Ponting upon which he slammed the next ball during the training session over extra cover. Meanwhile, the right-hander has compiled scores of 12, 7, 0, 15, and 0 in his five outings thus far in his nightmare season.

DC eye first win in IPL 2023

Notably, Delhi were handed their fifth defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in their most recent outing on Saturday, April 15. Following their fifth straight loss, speculations were rife that the management could trim the coaching staff for the remainder of the season.

Moreover, the owners of the franchise are likely to closely analyse the season and make tough calls if needed. However, JSW and GMR could possibly make changes in the management for the next season as per reports.

“Obviously, nothing will happen mid-season but the poor result for two successive season will have its share of repercussions when JSW and GMR, the two co-owners sit back and take stock of the season. So, you will certainly not have this jumbo coaching staff next season for sure. There will be a few heads that might roll,” a source told the Times of India.

DC play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next assignment on Thursday, April 20. The David Warner-led side will be raring to obtain their first points in the league against KKR.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 hasn’t fared so well for Delhi Capitals and their star opener Prithvi Shaw so far. The 23-year-old, who came into the tournament with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, has failed to live up to them.

Shaw has featured in all of the five matches that Delhi have played so far in the IPL 2023. He has only managed to score just 34 runs in five matches, with his highest score being 15 runs. The Indian batter would be keen on picking up his form in the forthcoming games as the David Warner-led side aims to register their first win of the season.

Following Shaw’s poor showing, Delhi’s assistant coach Shane Watson came forward to give his take on the 23-year-old’s form. “The talks with Prithvi has been really just to have the freedom to go out there and trust his skills, Prithvi is as skilled as any batter in India. The biggest thing for him is to just continue allowing himself to access those skills with no fear about making a mistake or getting out,” Shane Watson was quoted as saying by the ICC.

Players like Prithvi don’t just fall out of trees: Watson

Continuing upon the same, Watson heaped praise on Shaw’s inherent ability. He even went on to opine that when provided with the right guidance, Shaw can take on even the best bowlers in world cricket.

“Players like Prithvi don’t just fall out of trees. Someone with his skill doesn’t come along that often, and that’s why we just want to help him as much as we possibly can to allow him to show the incredible batting skills he has got,” Watson said.

“That’s the real big reinforcement we are giving him as a coaching group because we all know the skill he has got. When he is batting at his best, he can take down the best bowlers in all conditions,” he concluded.

[Watch] Trent Boult’s twin strike sends back Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey for ducks off consecutive deliveries in IPL 2023

Trent Boult once again shone for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL 2023 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, April 8.

The left-arm pacer put the Capitals on the backfoot with back-to-back wickets – Impact player Prithvi Shaw and DC debutant Manish Pandey for ducks – in his very first over of DC’s chase.

Boult first bowled a fuller length delivery to get rid of Shaw, caught out by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who pulled off a stunning catch behind the stumps.

The ace pacer then sent back Manish Pandey, who was absolutely plumb in front of the stumps, lbw out off the very next delivery during his double-wicket maiden.

Scroll below to watch Trent Boult’s double strike:

For the uninitiated, RR retained Boult for Rs 8 crore. The New Zealand pacer scalped 16 wickets in as many games at an economy rate of 7.94 last year, as RR finished as runners-up in IPL 2022. Overall, the speedster has scalped 94 wickets in 81 games, barring the ongoing match against DC.

The 33-year-old previously scalped two wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which RR won by 72 runs this season. He, however, failed to take a single wicket versus the Punjab Kings as RR fell short by five runs.

Trent Boult recently bagged nine wickets in 10 games for MI Emirates in the International League T20. He will look to continue his exceptional form in the IPL.

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a show for RR before Trent Boult’s heroics

Jos Buttler and Yashavi Jaiswal put on a show after the Delhi Capitals asked the Rajasthan Royals to bat first on Saturday. The in-form openers shared a 98-run partnership.

Buttler smashed 79 runs off 51 balls, including six and 11 boundaries. Jaiswal, too, starred with the bat, scoring 60 runs off 31 deliveries, including a maximum and 11 fours. Shimron Hetmyer also shone with 39 off 21 balls, including four sixes and one four.

For DC, Mukesh Kumar scalped two wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Rovman Powell bagged solitary wickets.

In response, the Capitals are 42/3 after seven overs, with David Warner and Lalit Yadav at the crease.

  • Prithvi Shaw booked for allegedly molesting and physically assaulting social media influencer Sapna Gill

Prithvi Shaw booked for allegedly molesting and physically assaulting social media influencer Sapna Gill

Get every cricket updates! Follow us on

India cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav have been booked following a criminal complaint against them filed before Andheri Magistrate by social media influencer Sapna Gill. In her complaint, Sapna accused Shaw and his friend of committing inhuman acts of molesting her in a public place, outraging her modesty and physically assaulting her with a deadly weapon.

In a shocking revelation, Sapna said that the cricketer placed his hands on her breasts and pushed her away. An FIR under sections 354, 509, and 324 of IPC has been filed for assaulting her with a bat, and she also attached the medical proof of a government hospital along with it which is an important document to prove sexual assault. Earlier, Sapna was arrested in the same case and now she claims that she is a victim.

“The Complainant states that, the above prima facie criminal acts have rendered the Accused & his friends liable for prosecution under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and thus, in the light of the above mentioned acts and in great anticipation, she has filed this present complaint before this Hon’ble Court for the offences under section 34, 120B, 144, 146, 148, 149, 323, 324, 351, 354 & 509 Section of the Indian Penal Code,” the complaint read as reported by Times Now.

“A criminal complaint was also filed against Airport police station officers Satish Kawankar and Bhagavat Garande under section 166A of IPC for not discharging their duties to register FIR under section 354 of IPC against Prithvi Shaw and others on the complaint of a woman. Both the matters are listed on 17 April for hearing,” Sapna’s lawyer Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Notably, on February 16, 2023, Oshiwara police arrested social media influencer Sapna Gill for allegedly assaulting Prithvi Shaw at a nightclub in Mumbai. The brawl took place after Shaw had allegedly denied taking selfies with Sapna and her friends at Barrel Mansion Club in Vile Parle East.

The video of the incident went viral on social media where Sapna and Shaw were seen fighting. Four days after her arrest, a court granted bail to Sapna and the other three accused.

Sapna’s Lawyer claims Shaw hit her with a bat

Sapna has further claimed in her complaint that the FIR against her was registered on “completely false and bogus allegations”.

Sapna Gill’s lawyer advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh had also alleged that Shaw hit the woman with his bat. “In the five-star hotel, social media influencer Sapna Gill just went to Prithvi Shaw as a fan for taking a selfie with him. They were having a party, Prithvi Shaw was drunk and he was holding a bat in his hand and he hit with his bat to Sapna. Then the next day, he went to the police and filed the case,” claimed Deshmukh.

  • I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season ever in the IPL: Ricky Ponting

I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season ever in the IPL: Ricky Ponting

Prithvi Shaw is one of the most flamboyant batters when he gets going and this surely makes him one of the most exciting openers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shaw has featured in five IPL editions so far for the Delhi Capitals franchise, whereby season 2021 turned out to be his best so far. He clobbered 479 runs with a decent average of 31.93, along with an emphatic strike rate of 159.14.

However, his overall average in the cricket carnival is just 25.21 with a decent strike rate still close to 150. Surprisingly, team Delhi still backed Shaw despite overall poor returns by retaining him in the 2022 edition of the IPL auctions. Now speaking of his last one-and-a-half-year journey, Shaw’s career has been like a see-shaw affecting his National aspirations in the limited overs cricket for the opening slot plagued with fitness issues.

Albeit, the 23-year-old, showed his batting prowess in the 2022-23 season of the domestic circuit. Shaw racked up consistent scores against the likes of India A, West Zone, and Mumbai. Moreover, the Thane-born batter scored big centuries in the coveted Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Duleep Trophy as well along with Ranji Trophy. Consequently, he was included in the T20I squad of team India back in January. Though, he remained benched through the series. Notably, Prithvi Shaw notched up the second-highest individual score in the history of the Ranji Trophy against Assam with his gigantic knock of 379 runs off  383 balls.

Just when things are looking on the brighter side, the dashing Mumbai batter hit the headlines due to a controversy which involved selfies and his friend’s car. Though, the matter is being handled by the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals’ head coach, Ricky Ponting is seemingly impressed with Prithvi Shaw. Ponting found Shaw hungry for runs as the 23-year-old has been training hard not only on his game but also on his fitness. The Australian legend did not mince any words further by stating that he cannot stand a lethargic attitude when he is working with players on the field, irrespective of the happenings with a player off the field. Ponting is seemingly happy with Shaw’s overall batting efforts.

“It’s well documented that I had some issues early on, but it’s all about just being true to yourself and wanting to be the best that you can be,” Ponting said. “The one thing that I always say to our players is I don’t like laziness and I don’t like guys not utilising the talent that they’ve got. That’s one thing I always say,” said Ponting as per ESPN Cricinfo.

Something has really clicked in Prithvi: Ricky Ponting

Interestingly enough, the former world champion Australian, Ricky Ponting, donned the head coach’s hat with the Delhi Capitals in 2021. Thereafter, Ponting has closely worked with Shaw on this batting. As per his experience thus far, the Aussie felt that there was no batter as talented as the Delhi opener.

“And so that’s then my job as a coach. If I can see that guys aren’t working as hard as they should, they’re not getting the most out of them, then it’s up to me to try and change that. So, you know, it just seems to me that this season, though, something has really clicked in Prithvi. He seems to be in a better space than ever before,” the Talismic Tasmanian further added.

“He’s trained harder and better than I’ve ever seen. I’m pretty sure leading into an IPL, he is in better physical shape than I’ve ever seen him before. And I spoke to him the other day about his attitude and the way that he’s working and how things are going. I honestly feel that this is going to be his biggest season ever in the IPL,” Ponting elated while speaking to reporters in Delhi on Friday.

Notably, Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2023 season against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on April 1. They will aim to do better than their last year’s fifth spot performance. Most importantly, in the absence of their regular skipper, Rishabh Pant, David Warner will be marshalling his troops. It will be interesting to see how things pan out for the new skipper as well as he has been lacklustre with his bat in the recently concluded series with India. Moreover, star all-rounder Axar Patel has been named as the Vice-Captain for his sublime run against Australia.

5 cricketers who had complaints filed against them

Cricketers have gained enormous popularity in recent years. Due to the IPL and other tournaments, the fan-following of cricketers has reached the next level. Players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have millions of fans across the world.

However, the lives of all cricketers are not the same. Some players unluckily land up in trouble and even get complaints registered against them. Social media influencer Sapna Gill recently filed a complaint against Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, alleging illegal acts of molesting and outraging modesty.

“Criminal complaint registered against Prithvi Shaw, Ashish Surendra Yadav, Brijesh & others (not known to complainant) for illegal acts of molesting and outraging the modesty of Sapna Gill u/s 34, 120b, 144, 146, 148, 149, 323, 324, 351, 354 & 509 of IPC,” Sapna’s legal representative advocate Ali Kaashif Deshmukh said.

Shaw is yet to make an official comment regarding the controversy, but reports have claimed that the Indian cricketer was not at fault for the situation. This is not the first time a complaint has been filed against an international cricketer.

On that note, here’s a list of five cricketers who had a complaint filed against them.

#1 One of England’s current cricketers: Ben Stokes

England’s current Test captain Ben Stokes had a fight near a nightclub in Bristol back in 2017. He was involved in a brawl with two other men on the street and had to appear in court thereafter. Stokes punched one of them, landing them unconscious. His teammate Alex Hales was also involved in the incident.

Following the unsavory episode, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) heavily fined both Hales and Stokes. The current England Test skipper said that he acted in self-defense. 11 months later, he was cleared of affray.

    #2 Vinod Kambli

Earlier this month, former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli’s wife Andrea filed a police complaint against him for throwing the handle of a cooking pan at her. Kambli was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The couple’s 12-year-old son tried to intervene in the fight between his parents, but the throw from Kambli ended up injuring his wife.

    #3 Yuvraj Singh

An FIR was filed against former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh in February 2021 over a ‘disrespectful’ comment made by him towards the Dalit Society during an Instagram live with Rohit Sharma.

Singh apologized for his comments, but a case was registered against him at Hisar’s Hansi police station.

#4 One of Sri Lanka’s current cricketers: Danushka Gunathilaka

During the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 tournament in Australia, police arrested Sri Lankan squad member Danushka Gunathilaka after a woman filed a complaint against him.

The woman accused Gunathilaka of forcing himself on her. They reportedly met on a dating application. Soon after the incident, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) suspended him from all formats of cricket with immediate effect.

#5 One of Pakistan’s current cricketers: Sohail Tanvir

Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Sohail Tanvir had a complaint filed against him by his wife Nosheen Agha back in 2011. The dispute allegedly started after Tanvir married another girl chosen by his family without informing Nosheen.

She even claimed that the Pakistan cricketer threatened to leave Islamabad and move to another city.
