Bhojpuri actress Sapna Gill files counter case against Prithvi Shaw for ‘outraging her modesty’

Bhojpuri actress and social media influencer Sapna Gill, who was arrested by Oshiwara police along with her three friends, for heckling Prithvi Shaw, has filed a complaint at Mumbai Airport police station against the Indian cricketer.

Sapna alleged that it was Shaw and his friends who provoked them first as the altercation began after the Mumbai batter reportedly refused to pose for selfies.

Sapna also mentioned that in the club when her friend Shobhit Thakur approached Shaw for selfie, the cricketer was in an inebriated condition and “forcefully took her friend’s phone and damaged it by throwing it violently on the floor.” According to the allegations made by Sapna, Shaw also allegedly touched her inappropriately and pushed her.

The complaint filed against Shaw comes under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (outraging modesty), 509 (gesture to outrage modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and other sections pertaining to rioting, criminal conspiracy and etc.

    Other side of the story

Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav have reported that after being denied of the selfies, Sapna and Thakur gathered people and waited outside the club for the cricketer to confront him.

They even chased down Shaw’s friend’s car and the two parties got into a scuffle wherein the former’s BMW got damaged. A complaint was filed by Shaw’s friend on February 17, Sapna and three others were arrested and sent to judicial custody by the Mumbai Police for 14 days. But Sapna was released on bail by a magistrate court on Monday evening.

The 23-year-old Shaw was recently included in the India squad for the T20I series against New Zealand after more than 1.5 years following his 379-run knock against Assam in the Ranji Trophy. He, however, did not get a game during the three-match series, which Team India won 2-1 at home.

The Mumbai batter will aim for a breakthrough season in IPL 2023. Last year, Shaw scored 283 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 152.97.

Explosive opening batter Prithvi Shaw, who has been scoring plenty of runs in the domestic circuit, has made his comeback into the T20I side, which will be captained by Hardik Pandya as regular skipper Rohit Sharma will only lead India in the preceding ODI series. “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked India’s squads for the upcoming Mastercard New Zealand Tour of India that comprises three ODIs and as many T20Is. KL Rahul & Axar Patel were unavailable for the New Zealand Home series due to family commitments,” said BCCI in an official media release.

Despite performing on a consistent basis, young opener Prithvi Shaw is not in India’s scheme of things at the moment. The 23-year-old smashed a cracking triple century (379 runs) against Assam in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match and after it, he has once again become the talk of the town, especially, when the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy is just around the corner.

However, for a long time now, people on social media have been critical of his lifestyle and many believe that he is not getting an opportunity in the Indian team because of the same. The cricketer nevertheless clarified that no one from the team management ever spoke to him directly about this and also stated that it doesn’t matter to him what people write on social media.

“No one came and spoke to me directly. Few people just wrote/commented on what they felt. I ignore it. I know that I’m doing my process. Many people who don’t know me at all are commenting about me. Sometimes I see those comments and just ignore them. I know what I have to do, those people writing on social media doesn’t matter to me. I just look at myself and try to improve as a player,” Shaw said to Indian Express.

I do get hurt once you are at peak and don’t get picked: Shaw

Shaw on his social media handles was very vocal whenever he failed to get into the Indian team. After performing well in the domestic circuit, he expects to earn a call-up but that unfortunately hasn’t come as of yet. Thus, while talking about the same, the youngster revealed that it hurts whenever he fails to make it to the team but also stated there’s nothing he can do about it.

“Sometimes I do get hurt once you are at peak and don’t get picked. Joh mere hath mein nahi hai uska dukh bana ke kya fyada. (What’s the use of being sad about something you can’t control). If God decides he will give me another opportunity, I will try to perform for India again. As I said there is no point in thinking too much, at the moment, I want to do well for Mumbai first,” the cricketer added.

Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Netizens react as Prithvi Shaw hits a double century in Mumbai vs Assam clash

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23, Prithvi Shaw, who is representing the Mumbai team, smashed a brilliant double century during an Elite Group B match against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Shaw brought up his maiden double century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and took only 235 balls to complete it. During this, the right-handed batter smacked 28 fours and a six. Shaw played a flamboyant inning and got Mumbai off to a flying start by forming a dominating 123-run opening partnership with Musheer Khan, who scored 42 before Mukhtar Hussain dismissed him.

Shaw then added 74 runs for the first wicket with Arman Jaffer (27), and upon the latter’s run-out, the Mumbaikar built an unbeaten stand of 200 runs with skipper Ajinkya Rahane. At stumps, Mumbai reached 397/2, with Shaw being undefeated on 240 with the help of 34 boundaries, while Rahane was not out on 73, including five fours.

So far in the prestigious competition, Mumbai have registered two victories out of 4 matches with 16 points. They are positioned at the second spot in the Elite Group B points table behind Saurashtra.

Speaking about Shaw, he was a part of India A squad in September, which faced New Zealand, but was not picked in any series on a domestic or foreign tour. The 23-year-old played his last match for India in July 2021, when the Men in Blue toured Sri Lanka. Since then, Shaw has been out but working hard to attract the selectors’ attention.
