IPL 2025 [Day 1]: Complete list of players sold at the mega auction with their price

The first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction unfolded with grandeur at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, November 24. With a vast pool of 577 players available for selection, only the top-tier names from the first 12 sets were in focus during the initial phase of the two-day auction. By the end of Day 1, 84 players had gone under the hammer, setting the stage for a high-stakes bidding war between franchises.

Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer shatter records

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant stole the spotlight by becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured his services for a staggering INR 27 crore, breaking all previous records. Pant’s explosive batting, leadership potential, and adaptability made him the most sought-after player of the auction, highlighting his immense value in the shortest format.

Before Pant’s record-breaking deal, Shreyas Iyer briefly held the title of the highest-paid player in IPL history. Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired the stylish middle-order batter for INR 26.75 crore. Known for his ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed, Iyer’s addition brings balance and stability to PBKS’s batting lineup. Reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made headlines by re-signing all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for a hefty INR amount of over 20 crores. Iyer’s versatility as a hard-hitting batter and a dependable seam-bowling option proved too valuable for KKR to let go. His performances in previous seasons were instrumental in KKR’s success, prompting the franchise to break the bank for him.

Indian bowlers command high prices: Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh

Indian bowlers were in high demand, with Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh each fetching INR 18 crore. Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired both bowlers, solidifying their bowling lineup. Chahal, the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker, and Arshdeep, one of the most promising left-arm pacers in the league, are expected to play crucial roles in PBKS’s title aspirations.

Day 1 of the IPL 2025 auction showcased the growing value of Indian players in the league. High-profile acquisitions like Pant, Iyer, and Iyer underscored the premium franchises are willing to pay for proven performers and game-changers. As the auction progresses, the focus will shift to uncovering hidden gems and finalizing squads for the highly anticipated season ahead.

Fans celebrate as Yuzvendra Chahal breaks all-time IPL record with a INR 18 crore deal with Punjab Kings

In a historic move at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured the services of ace leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for a whopping INR 18 crore.

This acquisition has made Chahal the most expensive spinner in IPL auction history. The intense bidding battle on November 24 saw multiple franchises vying for Chahal, but PBKS triumphed after a fierce competition involving Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Chahal’s record-breaking bid underscores his immense value and skill set as a match-winning bowler in the shortest format. As PBKS aims to strengthen its bowling arsenal, the addition of the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker is a significant boost to their campaign in the upcoming season.

A hotly contested bidding war for Yuzvendra Chahal

The bidding for Chahal was one of the highlights of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Gujarat Titans (GT) initiated the bid at the base price of INR 2 crore, quickly followed by interest from Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, as the stakes rose, both teams withdrew, paving the way for PBKS and LSG to lock horns. RCB and SRH later entered the fray, with RCB keen to reclaim their former star, given his past success at the batting-friendly M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Despite intense interest from multiple franchises, PBKS emerged victorious with a record INR 18 crore bid, making Chahal the costliest spinner in IPL history. His addition to the team adds depth and experience to their bowling lineup, significantly enhancing PBKS’s chances of a strong campaign in IPL 2025.

The journey of the IPL’s leading wicket-taker

Chahal’s IPL career has been nothing short of extraordinary. With 205 wickets in 160 matches at an economy rate of 7.84, Chahal sits atop the all-time wicket-takers list in the tournament’s history. He surpassed Dwayne Bravos record in 2023 and became the first bowler to breach the 200-wicket mark in IPL history. His tally includes six four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul, showcasing his ability to deliver match-turning spells consistently.

Chahal’s career began with the Mumbai Indians (MI), where he was a promising talent. However, his true potential was realized RCB, where he became the franchise’s highest wicket-taker with 139 wickets in 113 matches. After a successful stint with Rajasthan Royals (RR), including winning the Purple Cap in 2022 with 27 wickets, Chahal will now embark on a new journey with PBKS as his fourth IPL team.

A legacy of excellence in T20 cricket

Chahal’s impact extends beyond the IPL. He is also the leading wicket-taker for India in Men’s T20Is, with his tally only surpassed by Deepti Sharma across all Indian players in T20Is. Chahal’s ability to perform under pressure has made him a pivotal figure in Indian cricket, both domestically and internationally. Chahal’s IPL journey has been adorned with milestones. His Purple Cap-winning season in 2022 with the RR saw him take 27 wickets in 17 matches, leading his team to the finals. Although the Royals fell short against GT Chahal’s contributions throughout the tournament were unparalleled.

PBKS’s strategy and the road ahead

By acquiring Chahal, PBKS has reinforced its bowling unit with a proven match-winner. Chahal’s experience in high-pressure situations and his knack for breaking partnerships will be invaluable for the team. PBKS will rely on Chahal’s consistency and wicket-taking ability to lead their bowling attack and complement their other bowlers effectively.

For PBKS, this signing represents a strategic move to solidify their core group of players. With Chahal in the squad, they aim to end their title drought and establish themselves as strong contenders in IPL 2025. As Chahal gears up for this new chapter in his IPL career, the spotlight will be on him to deliver yet another stellar season.

  • 3 teams who can target Sikandar Raza in the IPL 2025 mega auction

3 teams who can target Sikandar Raza in the IPL 2025 mega auction

Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe’s experienced all-rounder and T20I captain, is among the prominent players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With a base price of INR 1.25 crores, Raza brings versatility and a wealth of international experience to the table.

Sikandar Raza in the IPL 2025 Auction

Raza previously represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Across nine matches, the 38-year-old scored 182 runs, including a match winning half-century. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, taking three wickets, showcasing his ability to influence games in both departments. Known for his ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed, Raza is also an effective off-spinner, particularly valuable in subcontinental conditions. His calm temperament and experience in high-pressure situations make him a dependable middle-order option.

Raza’s skill set makes him an attractive target for franchises seeking a reliable all-rounder who can contribute in multiple phases of the game. His past performances for PBKS have already demonstrated his adaptability and match-winning potential.

IPL 2025: 3 teams who can target Sikandar Raza in the mega auction

    1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK might target Raza to bolster their all-rounder department, particularly as a backup for aging players like Ravindra Jadeja. Raza’s ability to contribute in middle-order batting and his off-spin adds depth to the team. CSK often looks for experienced, versatile players, aligning with Raza’s profile. His calm temperament can prove valuable in handling pressure situations. With spin-friendly conditions at Chepauk, Raza’s bowling can be a strategic asset. His relatively low base price ensures CSK can secure him without major budget concerns.

    2. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG could target Raza to strengthen their lower middle order and add an all-rounder who can bat and bowl effectively. Raza’s experience on slow pitches suits LSG’s home ground in Lucknow, where spinners play a crucial role. With Nicholas Pooran and other top-order batters handling the early overs, Raza can finish innings or anchor when needed. His off-spin provides an alternative to LSG’s left-arm and leg-spin options. LSG also values overseas players with adaptability, making Raza a perfect fit. His performance for his national side especially in the high-stakes tournament further showcase his ability in high-stakes games.

    3. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR might target Raza to enhance their middle-order stability and provide additional bowling flexibility. RR often relies on dynamic all-rounders who can impact the game with both bat and ball, making Raza a valuable addition. At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, known for its spin-friendly conditions, Raza’s off-spin could be a game-changer. His ability to counter-attack and finish games in the lower order would complement RR’s aggressive batting philosophy. Additionally, Raza’s leadership experience can benefit a team looking for strategic insights and calmness in pressure scenarios.

    PBKS can use RTM option

PBKS have retained their Right-to-Match (RTM) option for Raza, which could be a strategic move to bring him back if bidding intensifies. Having already spent two seasons with PBKS, Raza is familiar with the team dynamics and the roles assigned to him. His memorable performances, including a crucial half-century in IPL 2023, make him a trusted option. Given PBKS’s tendency to invest in utility players, they might use the RTM card to secure a cost-effective all-rounder who can adapt to various match situations. Retaining Raza would also ensure continuity in their overseas player lineup.

  • 3 teams who can target Shardul Thakur in the IPL 2025 mega auction

3 teams who can target Shardul Thakur in the IPL 2025 mega auction

As the much-awaited Indian Premiere League 2025 mega auction approaches, franchises are gearing up to revamp their squads for a successful season. One player who is set to catch the attention of teams is Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Known for his ability to deliver with both bat and ball, Shardul’s skills as a bowling all-rounder make him a valuable asset. Teams struggling with depth and consistency in their lineup are likely to target him as a key acquisition.

Why teams should covet Shardul Thakur’s skillset

The 2024 IPL season highlighted the importance of a reliable Indian all-rounder who can perform under pressure. Shardul’s knack for delivering breakthroughs with the ball and his potential to hit big shots in crunch moments have turned him into a sought-after player. Franchises looking to bolster their bowling attack and add batting depth see him as a game-changer. With his adaptability and experience, Thakur has all the tools to make a significant impact in IPL 2025.

3 franchises who can go after Shardul in IPL 2025 auction

    1. Gujarat Titans

After dominating the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the Gujarat Titans faced a dismal campaign in 2024, finishing eighth. Their bowling unit, once a strength, faltered, with Mohit Sharma leading their wicket tally with a modest 13 wickets in 12 matches. However, Mohit hasnt been retained. Though, stalwarts like Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill have been retained but the Titans lack a specialist fast-bowling all-rounder who can deliver in critical moments.

Shardul could be the answer to their woes. His recent form and versatility make him a prime candidate to strengthen Gujarat’s bowling lineup. Thakur’s ability to swing the ball and pick wickets during powerplay overs, coupled with his batting capabilities, would provide much-needed balance to the Titans as they aim for a strong comeback in 2025.

    2. Punjab Kings

The Punjab Kings ended the 2024 season in ninth place, struggling with an inconsistent bowling attack and a lack of firepower in the lower middle order. With their title drought continuing, the Kings need a dynamic player who can deliver with both bat and ball.

Shardul’s proven ability to perform under pressure aligns perfectly with Punjab’s requirements. His experience as a match-winner and ability to anchor innings or hit big in death overs could transform Punjab’s fortunes. Adding Shardul to their lineup would not only strengthen their bowling attack but also provide much-needed stability and depth to their batting.

    3. Delhi Capitals

Shardul was part of the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 IPL season and left a mark with his all-around performances. With the Capitals eyeing a stronger showing in 2025, Thakur’s skills could once again prove invaluable. His ability to bowl effectively in powerplay and death overs and contribute with the bat in high-pressure situations makes him an ideal candidate for the team’s all-rounder department.

Bringing back Shardul could add a layer of reliability to Delhi’s squad, complementing their existing core. His experience, combined with his familiarity with the franchise, could make him a seamless fit for the Capitals as they look to climb the points table in IPL 2025.

Delhi Capitals opener David Warner can join Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 – Reports

In a striking development regarding Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, reports suggest that David Warner, the seasoned opener for Delhi Capitals (DC), is poised to follow the footsteps of legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting and join Punjab Kings (PBKS). This potential transition comes shortly after PBKS officially announced Ponting as their new head coach, following his notable seven-year tenure with Delhi. According to insights from SportsTiger, Warner has seemingly lost his standing in Delhi and is eager to reunite with Ponting.

David Warner’s leadership legacy and potential impact on Punjab Kings

Warner’s prowess as a leader is well-established, especially highlighted during his tenure with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he successfully led the team to clinch the IPL title in 2016. His aggressive batting style, coupled with his tactical intelligence, could inject a much-needed dose of intensity and focus into the PBKS. The team has struggled with consistency in previous seasons, and Warner’s presence could provide the catalyst needed for transformation.

His ability to form explosive opening partnerships could lay a robust foundation for the innings, setting the stage for strong performances. Additionally, Warner’s strategic decisions, particularly in high-pressure situations, have often been game-changing, making him an invaluable asset for PBKS as they strive for success.

Stellar IPL career and record-breaking achievements

At 37 years old, Warner is navigating the latter stages of his IPL journey, yet his accolades underscore his status as one of the most accomplished overseas players in the league’s history. Making his IPL debut in 2009, he has participated in 184 matches, scoring an impressive 6,565 runs at an average of 40.52, firmly positioning himself as the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history.

His remarkable career stats include four centuries and an astounding 62 half-centuries, reinforcing his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the tournament. 4 teams who can release their captains ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

As the India Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction approaches, franchises are carefully assessing their squads, strategies, and leadership roles to build a competitive team for the future. With factors like age, fitness, player form, and evolving team goals, several captains might find their roles under scrutiny.

Keeping major auctions in mind, teams are now looking at younger, dynamic leaders who can guide them through a long-term vision while maintaining a high level of performance. Let’s have a look at such franchises that could potentially release their captains before the next IPL season as they rework their leadership structure to align with future goals.

4 teams who can release their captains ahead of the IPL 2025 players’ auction

    1. Faf du Plessis – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Faf du Plessis has been a key figure for RCB since taking over the captaincy, but age and recent form may prompt the team to look for a younger leader. At 40, Du Plessis’ performances have dipped slightly, and with RCB focused on building a squad for the future, the franchise might consider a fresh captain.

Further, RCB could potentially bring in KL Rahul, who started his IPL career with the franchise. Rahul’s leadership experience and batting prowess could make him an ideal replacement for Du Plessis.

    2. Shikhar Dhawan – Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Shikhar Dhawan, who has recently retired from all forms of the game, will definitely be released by Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 season. Dhawan’s retirement paves the way for the franchise to appoint a new captain, and the frontrunner is all-rounder Sam Curran.

Curran, who became the most expensive player in IPL history, is seen as a promising young leader. His all-round abilities and consistent performances make him a strong candidate to lead Punjab Kings into a new era.

    3. KL Rahul – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Rahul’s tenure as Lucknow Super Giants captain has been marked by mixed results, and reports suggest his relationship with the franchise’s management is strained. With a potential return to RCB on the cards, LSG may release Rahul before the 2025 auction.

Rahul’s previous stint with RCB and his strong leadership credentials could make him an attractive option for his former team, especially if they decide to release Du Plessis.

    4. Hardik Pandya – Mumbai Indians (MI)

Hardik Pandya‘s form has been inconsistent in recent seasons, and his injury-prone body has raised concerns among Mumbai Indians fans. Although Hardik remains a valuable all-rounder, the team may consider moving forward without him as captain.

Suryakumar Yadav, currently leading India in T20 internationals, is seen as a strong contender to take over the captaincy. His experience, aggressive style, and current form make him a fan favorite to lead MI in the upcoming seasons.

As the IPL 2025 auction approaches, these potential captaincy changes could shape the direction of several franchises. Fans will be eager to see which teams make bold moves in the pursuit of success.

Preity Zinta takes legal action against Punjab Kings co-owner for this shocking reason

Preity Zinta, co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings, has taken legal action against fellow co-owner Mohit Burman amid reports of a rift between the two. Zinta has filed an appeal in the Chandigarh High Court seeking to restrain Burman from selling his shares in the team to a third party without first offering them to her and other co-owners.

Background of the dispute between Punjab Kings’ co-owners

The Punjab Kings franchise is co-owned by Zinta, Burman and Ness Wadia, with Zinta and Wadia each holding 23% of the shares, while Burman holds a significant 48%. The legal action comes after Zinta expressed concerns over Burman’s potential plans to sell his stake without consulting the other co-owners, which she argues violates their agreement.

According to reports, Zinta’s petition was filed under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act-1996, which allows for interim measures in disputes. She contends that the arrangement among the co-owners stipulates that shares cannot be sold to a third party unless the other owners decline to purchase them first.

    Response to Preity Zinta’s allegations

In response to the allegations, Burman has denied any intentions to sell his shares. “I don’t have any plans to sell my shares,” he told Cricbuzz. However, Zinta alleged in her legal filing that Burman intends to sell an 11.5% of his stake to a US-based firm named Tomales Bay Capital L.P.

Well, this legal battle comes at a critical time for the Punjab Kings, who are gearing up for the upcoming mega auction of the IPL. The internal conflict among the co-owners could potentially impact the team’s management and overall performance in the forthcoming tournament.

In terms of his cricketing trajectory, he last graced the field for PBKS in IPL 2024, amassing 187 runs across 12 innings. Remarkably, it was post the Cricket World Cup 2023 that he first made a significant impact, earning selection for the T20I series against Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan. This period was marked by considerable speculation and debate, with discussions centered around his preference over established wicketkeepers such as Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the upcoming marquee event in the Americas.

Despite this initial acclaim, his form subsequently faltered, leading to a dramatic decline in his standing and ultimately resulting in Pant and Samson being shortlisted for the T20 World Cup 2024, while he was conspicuously absent from the considerations. He would be eager to reinvigorate his career, aspiring to secure a place in the Indian squad once more and hoping for retention by PBKS in the forthcoming mega auction ahead of the 18th edition of the IPL.

Wasim Jaffer likely to replace Trevor Bayliss as next Punjab Kings head coach

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is likely to replace Trevor Bayliss as the next head coach of Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2024. He has previously served as the batting coach of the franchise.

Punjab Kings finished eighth and ninth in the last two editions of the IPL under Bayliss. With the kind of squad, he had at his disposal, The former KKR head coach could not bring out the best from the PBKS players.

After Bayliss’s release Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian coach. The success of Gautam Gambhir with KKR, Ashish Nehra with Gujarat Titans, and Sourav Ganguly partially for Delhi Capitals might have prompted this move from Punjab Kings.

After Ricky Ponting, previously ended his association with Delhi Capitals, Bayliss became the second foreign coach to bring his stint to an end. There are reports now that Wasim Jaffer is close to becoming the next head coach for Punjab Kings. Jaffer was the batting coach of Punjab Kings between 2019 and 2021 but stepped down from his role before the IPL 2022 auction.

Meanwhile, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, he will have an uphill task of retaining the core of the side and once again rebuilding the squad from scratch. Over the years, no captain-coach combination has been able to win the IPL title for Punjab Kings. They reached the final of the 2014 season which remains their best-ever campaign in the IPL.

They blew hot and cold throughout the tournament. PBKS chased down 261 against KKR, the highest-ever chase in the IPL history, and also defeated Chennai Super Kings in one of the two matches. Overall they won five games and lost nine to finish ninth on the table.

Rahul Dravid is another big name who is on the wishlist of several franchises. While there are reports that he is likely to rejoin Rajasthan Royals, there are reports that even KKR is interested in toping him after the departure of Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir is now the head coach of the Indian team and replaced Dravid who won the T20 World Cup 2024 with the side.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited meeting between the IPL owners and the BCCI will be held on July 31. The agenda of the meeting will be on the roadmap to the IPL 2025 mega auction. It is for sure that there will be a mega auction ahead of the next season.

IPL CEO Hemang Amin has sent an informal text message to all the franchise owners and the formal communication will be made soon. There have been talks about the number of retentions and the count has varied from one to eight. On average 5-6 retentions are allowed to be made as per reports. Also the Right To Match (RTM) option is being debated as well.
