    In the 8th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went head-to-head with each other.

    Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the match against the Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Friday, March 28.

    It’s always special playing at Chepauk – Rajat Patidar

    Batting first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a good score of 196/7 on the board before restricting Chennai Super Kings to 146/8. With this, they registered their first win against CSK at Chepauk after 6155 days. Also, it was only their second win over CSK at the venue.

    Speaking after the match, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar, who won the Player of the Match award for his 51-run knock, rubbed salt in CSK’s wounds by saying that he always feels special playing at Chepauk. Rajat Patidar said:

    “It was a good total on this surface. Ball was stopping a bit and it wasn’t easy for batters. It’s always special playing at Chepauk against Chennai because of the fans. Not only CSK but every team, it is nice to play in their home ground. We were targetting around 200 because we knew it wasn’t easy to chase. My goal was clear that as long as I was there I will keep trying every ball.”

    The track was pretty much helpful for spinners – Rajat Patidar

    Rajat Patidar further said that the pitch at the venue was helpful for spinners and they made the most of it. He stated:

    “We have not changed the batting line up it was the same from the last game. The track was pretty much helpful for spinners. We wanted to use spinners early and the way Livingstone came and bowled was outstanding.”

    Rajat Patidar further labeled Josh Hazlewood’s brilliant spell with the new ball as the game-changing moment.

    “It was the game changing moment (Hazlewood’s first over and the new ball bowling) because I think we got 2-3 wickets in the powerplay, t was amazing to see how they bowled the hard length consistently,” Patidar said.

    How did RCB perform in the previous IPL match against CSK?

    The Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s previous IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings was on May 18, 2024, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They delivered a near-flawless performance in the match to secure a 27-run victory and stormed into the IPL 2024 playoffs.

    Batting first, RCB’s openers set the tone with a brisk start. Virat Kohli (47 off 29) and Faf du Plessis (54 off 39) added 78 runs for the first wicket. Despite a mid-innings slowdown, Rajat Patidar (41 off 23) and Cameron Green (38* off 17) ensured RCB crossed the 200-run mark and ended up with 218/5 on the board.

    With the ball, RCB struck early as Glenn Maxwell dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad for a golden duck. Then, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Siraj, and Cameron Green picked up crucial wickets to push CSK on the backfoot

    Despite a late counterattack from Ravindra Jadeja (42* off 22) and MS Dhoni (25 off 13), RCB kept their composure and Yash Dayal sealed the match for RCB by dismissing Dhoni in the final over.

He did well for MP, took the team to the final in SMAT (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy), and the team looked towards you and said they are planning for the next four to five years. However, do they actually invest that much? That question always remains.”

    Notably, Royal Challengers Bengaluru reached three finals in the IPL, but they have not yet lifted the trophy. Last season, they made a stunning comeback, winning seven of their last eight matches, but fell short in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.

Also, because Rajat (Patidar) hasn’t scored runs in three Test matches, you can see a new debutant there. The Indian team can give a chance to Devdutt Padikkal. So two changes according to me,” Bangar stated.

    Indian middle-order batter Rajat Patidar‘s struggles in Test cricket persisted as he got out for just 17 runs on Day 2 of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi on Saturday.

    Patidar fell victim to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who claimed his second wicket of the day after sending back Shubman Gill for 38 (65).

    In the 35th over of India’s first innings, Patidar attempted to defend a fullish delivery that spun sharply after pitching around the off-stump. The 30-year-old found himself trapped LBW. After consulting the non-striker Yashasvi Jaiswal, Patidar went for a review. However, the Decision Review System (DRS) upheld the umpire’s call regarding the projected contact of the ball with the stumps.

    Disappointed Patidar had make to a long walk back to the pavilion for 17.

    Angry fans question Patidar’s place in the Indian team

    With lacklustre performances of 32, 9, 5 and 0 in the previous two Tests, Patidar’s place in the final XI was already uncertain and now his another failure has made fans lose their cool.

    Disappointed fans took to social media, expressing their dissatisfaction with Patidar’s display and suggesting his time in the Indian team may be temporarily over.

    England all out for 353 in their first innings

    Electing to bat first, England were all out for 353 in their first innings of the Ranchi Test on Saturday.

    Joe Root top scored for the touring party with 122 not out, while Ollie Robinson (58) smashed his maiden test half-century.

    For India, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (4/67) and debutant pacer Akash Deep (3/83) shined with the ball.

    Team India have begun pondering over their playing combination for the second Test against England beginning from February 02 in Visakhapatnam. Notably, after the 28-run loss in the series opener in Hyderabad, matters got worse for the Rohit Sharma-led side as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and batter KL Rahul were ruled out of the second game due to injuries.

    As a result, the men’s selection committee announced Sarfaraz Khan, Washington Sundar and Saurabh Kumar as replacements. For the second game, the team management is likely to bring in a spinner in Jadeja’s place and Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar will be the contenders to be in Rahul’s place.

    Recently, Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour shared his thoughts regarding who will get a go in the playing XI between Sarfaraz and Patidar and said that it will be a tough choice given that both of them are super players.

    “It will be a tough choice. What value they bring to the team, of course, is that they are super players. We have seen how well they have done in domestic cricket in the last few years,” Vikram Rathour was

    Rathour further said that the duo will add a lot of value to the team and it will be upon head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma to decide between the two.

    “So on these kind of wickets, I think they can really add a lot of value to the team. If you have to pick one, it’s of course going to be tough. But that’s a decision I think Rahul and Rohit Sharma will have to make in a day or so,” Rathore added.

    Notably, Patidar was brought into the side as a replacement for Virat Kohli, who has withdrawn from the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The Madhya Pradesh batter scored twin centuries against the England Lions ahead of the series. He further has 4000 first class runs to his name at an average of 45.97 with 12 hundreds and 22 fifties.

    On the other hand, Sarfaraz also scored a phenomenal 161 off 166 against the England Lions and has an incredible first-class average of 69.85 with 3912 runs to his name. The Mumbai batter has 14 hundreds and 11 fifties to his name and has been plundering runs in the Ranji Trophy since 2019.

    Hence, selecting one out of the two will be a headache for the team management as India look to make a comeback in the series being 0-1 down.
