Suryakumar Yadav asks Englishmen to bat first in Chennai as well

Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and invited England to bat first in the second T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, January 25. The decision to bowl first in the first T20I at the Eden Gardens worked wonders for India and they have opted to continue with the same ploy. India will look to double their lead with a win at the iconic venue.

Suryakumar said at the toss that dew could play a major role in the second innings and make things easier for the batters.

India continue to bench Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami continues to find himself on the bench, raising doubts over his fitness. Harshit Rana is the other seamer who has to wait for his opportunity. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement earlier in the day, to reveal the extent of the injuries faced by Rinku Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Rinku has been ruled out of the second and third T20Is after sustaining low back spasm in the first game. Meanwhile, Reddy has been ruled out of the series after suffering a side strain injury in the practice session on the eve of the second T20I. All-rounders Shivam Dube and Ramandeep Singh are set to join the side before the Rajkot encounter.

“We’ll look to bowl first. Looks a good track, there was a little bit of dew yesterday, hoping the wicket will be better in the evening. It looks good, it looks hard, hope it stays the same. We want to stick to the basics and have the same approach we had in the last game in all the departments. Really looking forward to the game. (Fielding) That’s one thing which brings everyone together, brings a lot of energy and positivity. Nitish Kumar is ruled out, Rinku will recover in one or two games. We have Washington Sundar, local boy and Dhruv Jurel in place of Rinku,” Suryakumar said at the toss.

Jos Buttler hopes for a better all-round performance

England captain Jos Buttler admitted that he would have also bowled first had he won the toss. He hoped for a better all-round performance from his side after the shocker in the opening game in Kolkata.

“We would have bowled first as well. Same plans, just got to do better. Each game is an opportunity, the guys are relaxed and looking forward to tonight. In all areas, we always try to improve. Same game plans, just do better. Assess conditions quickly, try and communicate. Looks a little bit different than sometimes here. Hopefully it’ll be a good wicket and a good match. Bethell is unwell, Jamie Smith comes in for his debut. Brydon Carse replaces Gus Atkinson,” Buttler said.

IND vs BAN 2024: Team India’s best XI for the T20I series against Bangladesh

Team India are gearing up to face Bangladesh in the upcoming three-match T20I series, starting October 06 at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. This comes on the heels of their recent two-match Test series, in which India dominated and completed a whitewash, winning both games convincingly. While the hosts look to extend their winning momentum, the visitors are determined to stage a comeback in the shortest format.

A young squad led by Suryakumar Yadav

The Indian squad for the T20I series will feature a relatively young lineup under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. The selectors have opted for new faces and rested several Test regulars, including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Siraj, with an eye on the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand later this month.

Among the new additions, pacer Mayank Yadav, who gained recognition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, has been selected for the squad. Additionally, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed during the IPL, makes a return after an earlier injury ruled him out of the Zimbabwe tour. Abhishek Sharma, who scored a century in just his second T20I during the Zimbabwe series, also rejoins the squad.

Rohit Sharma vs Virat Kohli: Rinku Singh reveals his favorite captain

The 26-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed batter Rinku Singh, in a recent interview, revealed his favorite captain, bowler, and batter. He picked only one name for his favorite bowler but went on to pick multiple names when asked to pick his favorite captain and batter.

Rinku Singh was regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, especially in the T20I cricket. Following his heroics with KKR, he got his India call-up and he replicated his IPL brilliance at the international stage as well and played some sensational innings for the team.

However, his stocks have recently gone down as he has not looked at his very best. He didn’t have a great IPL 2024, which led to the BCCI selectors picking Shivam Dube over Rinku Singh in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Although India won the tournament, there were calls made by fans throughout the competition to include Rinku in the main 15-member team. Also, he was not included in any of the Duleep Trophy 2024 squads for the first round.

Meanwhile, in a recent interaction on News24 Sports, Rinku Singh was asked to pick his favorite captain and he named Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He first named Rohit, saying that he likes the India skipper’s captaincy a lot. After that, he also spoke about Kohli, saying that he likes the former India captain’s aggressive style. Rinku said:

“I like Rohit bhaiya. I like Virat Bhaiya as well because aggression is important for a captain. So I like both the players’ captaincy.”

Also, the 26-year-old said that the right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah is his favorite bowler at the moment. Notably, Bumrah played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup win and he is currently on an extended break.

I enjoyed batting a lot with Rohit bhaiya – Rinku Singh

The left-handed batsman further named Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Suryakumar Yadav as his favorite batters in the world. Rinku Singh said that he absolutely loves batting with the India National Cricket Team captain as he is very chill all the time.

“I enjoyed batting a lot with Rohit bhaiya – he is very chill & great person, was having fun during the batting.”

However, Rinku unfortunately hasn’t got the opportunity so far to bat along with Virat Kohli and the batter dreams that will happen soon. Rinku said:

“I have never batted with Virat Kohli bhaiya. But It’s my dream to bat alongside Virat bhaiya in the match.”

The most recent international appearance of Rinku Singh was in the away T20I series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. He got the opportunity to bat in six out of eight matches and he failed to perform well.

He registered scores of 0, 48*, 1*, 11, 1, and 1 in six innings. However, he did win a game for India with the ball against Sri Lanka as he bowled the 19th over and claimed two wickets to change the momentum of the match.

Overall, Rinku has played 23 T20Is for India National Cricket Team and has scored 418 runs at an amazing average of 59.71 and a great strike rate of 174.16.

“Gautam Gambhir destroying Rinku Singh’s career” – India head coach blasted as young batter’s poor form continues

Fans on Twitter reacted after India National Cricket Team batter Rinku Singh bagged a low score in the ongoing T20I against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The last game of the series between the teams is underway at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

India have been asked to bat first in the ongoing game, but things haven’t been going in their court. They lost early wickets in the game as Sri Lanka National Cricket Team bowlers were all over the batters and left them under pressure.

With India losing early wickets, India promoted Rinku Singh up the order. However, the move didn’t work as the batter couldn’t set the stage on fire and was back in the hut without making any bigger contribution with the bat. He was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana in the 4th over.

Mahesh Theekshana bowled a floated-up delivery full-on off-stump. Rinku Singh made room as he looked to loft it over the cover. The ball held up in the surface a touch and he was through his shot far too early. The ball was straight up in the air, and four fielders were converging in the mid-off region, but Pathirana called for it and took the easy catch.

Rinku Singh scored just 1 runs off 2 balls. With his wicket, India lost their third wicket and were left tottering at 14/3. The Kolkata Knight Riders batter of late has been struggling to get going in the T20Is and is failing to score big and live up to the expectations.

The ongoing series hasn’t been great for Rinku Singh. The batter got an opportunity to bat in the first game, but he couldn’t cash on that as he managed just 1 run in the game. He will now be heading home as he isn’t part of the ODI team.

Netizens celebrate as India completes a T20I series whitewash with a super over victory against Sri Lanka

In a pulsating finale to the T20I series, the Indian cricket team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, secured a dramatic victory over Charith Asalanka’s Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (July 30). India achieved a clean sweep in the series, winning 3-0, despite facing a challenging final match that extended into a Super Over. The Indian side emerged victorious from a precarious position, largely due to the exceptional bowling performances of Rinku Singh and Suryakumar in the final overs of the match.

    India’s resilient performance

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first, putting India on the back foot early on. The Lankan bowlers restricted the Indian top order significantly, with only Shubman Gill managing to make a substantial impact. Gill scored 39 runs off 37 balls, while the rest of the top-order struggled, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), Sanju Samson (0), Rinku (1), Suryakumar (8) and Shivam Dube (13) all failing to contribute effectively. India lost five wickets for just 45 runs, struggling to build a solid foundation.

Despite the top-order collapse, Riyan Parag (26 off 18 balls) and Washington Sundar (25 off 18 balls) provided some valuable contributions. Their efforts, along with Gill’s innings, helped India post a total of 137 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Maheesh Theekshana was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, claiming three wickets.

Sri Lanka’s chase and super over drama

In response, Sri Lanka’s chase was anchored by Kusal Mendis, who scored 43 runs off 41 balls. However, key moments in the match turned the tide in India’s favor. Washington Sundar‘s crucial double-wicket over in the 17th over, where he dismissed two Sri Lankan batters, significantly tightened the contest. When Sri Lanka needed 9 runs from 12 balls, Rinku, making his T20 debut as a bowler, delivered a stunning 19th over. He dismissed Kusal Perera (46 off 34 balls) and Ramesh Mendis, leaving Sri Lanka needing 6 runs off the final over.

Captain Suryakumar took charge of the last over for India and delivered a remarkable performance, taking two wickets and conceding only five runs. This superb bowling effort restricted Sri Lanka to 137 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, and the match proceeded to the Super Over.

The decisive super over: India’s thrilling finish

The Super Over began with Sri Lanka batting first, facing a crucial task to set a challenging target for India. Sri Lanka’s innings nevertheless was quickly disrupted by India’s Sundar, who delivered a masterful performance.

Sundar’s accuracy and composure under pressure were evident as he restricted Sri Lanka to just 3 runs in their Super Over. His first delivery resulted in a single, and he followed up with a well-placed ball that yielded another single. Sundar’s next delivery trapped a Sri Lankan batter in front of the stumps for a critical wicket. After another dot ball and a single, Sundar struck again, taking another wicket and ensuring the Sri Lankans could only manage a total of 3 runs.

With the modest target set, India’s Suryakumar took on the challenge of chasing down the runs. He faced the first ball of the Super Over with intent, and with a powerful stroke, struck a boundary through the infield. This boundary not only secured the winning runs but also sealed the match for India, confirming their clean sweep of the series with a 3-0 victory.

‘If given an opportunity, he can develop into a Test cricketer’ – Vikram Rathour backs Rinku Singh to excel in longest format of game

Few possess the intimate insight into batters, their strengths and shortcomings, quite like former batting coach, Vikram Rathour. Returning to his role with the men’s team in November 2021, he has closely scrutinized numerous batters’ techniques and playing styles during net sessions and matches alike. Recently, he discussed Rinku Singh‘s potential and capabilities, suggesting that they could pave the way towards a promising Test career in the future.

Rathour reflected that each time he observed Rinku batting in the nets, he found himself contemplating there was nothing that the left-hander lacked to perform a successful role as a red-ball batter for the national team.

“When I see him bat in the nets, I can’t find any technical reasons why Rinku cannot be a successful Test batter,” stated Rathour, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Also Read: ‘We have a lot of depth in Indian cricket’ – Vikram Rathour not concerned about Indian’s transition

Moreover, Rathour acknowledged that while Rinku had carved out a reputation as an outstanding finisher in T20 cricket during his early career, his first-class record portrayed a different narrative. Additionally, Rathour praised Rinku’s equanimous disposition, noting that these attributes collectively suggested he had the potential to evolve into a Test cricketer if provided with sufficient opportunities.

“I understand he has made his name as a terrific finisher in T20 cricket but if you look at his first-class record, he is averaging in high 50s. He is also blessed with a very calm temperament. So, all these factors indicate that if given an opportunity, he can develop into a Test cricketer,” added Rathour.

Interestingly, the 26-year-old batter boasts a remarkably impressive first-class record, accumulating 3173 runs for his state, Uttar Pradesh, across 69 innings, including 20 half-centuries and seven centuries. He also maintains a commendable average of 54.70. Yet, he has never been seriously contemplated for inclusion in India’s Test squad. It remains intriguing to observe whether this narrative will undergo a transformation in the near future.

IPL 2024 [WATCH]: When Nitish Rana prompted Rinku Singh to propose a fictional woman

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) became the first team to qualify in the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With an array of talented players, they currently lead the league’s points table. Among their star players, one such talent is Rinku Singh, who is known for his stellar performances and ability to sway matches and secure victories even in the direst situations.

Despite his on-field heroics, Rinku is recognized as a reserved individual who prefers to avoid the spotlight. However, his KKR teammates often indulge in light-hearted banter and pranks, aiming to draw him out of his shell. One such incident occurred when Nitish Rana orchestrated a playful scenario where Rinku found himself proposing to an imaginary woman.

Nitish Rana placed Rinku Singh in an amusing situation

In a video that circulated online, reportedly from two years ago, KKR players were seen on a plane heading for an IPL match. Rinku was seated beside Nitish in the footage. The former KKR skipper recounted a playful incident where he had encouraged Rinku to humorously imagine him as a lady and propose, to which Rinku reluctantly agreed.

Nitish had captured the moment on his phone, in which Rinku was holding a flower pot and mimicking a proposal. Nitish then took out his mobile and revealed the recording. When Nitish showed the video, Rinku appeared visibly embarrassed and covered his face before bursting into laughter. “Hi baby, I propose you,” Rinku said in the video.

‘One of the fairest teams, Rinku shouldn’t be disheartened’ – Sourav Ganguly opines on India’s T20 World Cup squad

Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was elated with India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He called it one of the fairest teams that the selectors could have picked and also expressed sympathy for Rinku Singh. Despite being one of the favourites to make it to the squad ahead of the IPL, the Aligarh-born batter failed to do so as he has been named as one of the travelling reserves.

Ganguly believes that Rinku has a lot of cricket left in him and expects him to play a lot for the national team. However, he understands the reason behind dropping the 26-year-old as he explained that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee emphasised picking an extra spinner, which can come in handy in the spin-friendly conditions of West Indies.

Also Read – This is rubbish selection, made Rinku the scapegoat: Kris Srikkanth

“I think this is one of the fairest teams I have seen. I am not saying other teams are not fair. I think the selectors and Rohit have done a fantastic job in picking this side. I think Rinku missed out because they wanted to go with another spinner. But Rinku is in standby, so fingers crossed. It is just the beginning of Rinku’s career. He will play a lot for India. I think he should not be disheartened with this. But I think this is a very strong team, solid team,” Ganguly said while speaking to reporters in Kolkata.

Notably, there were a lot of discussions on Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Chahal, who wasn’t in the T20 scheme of things and is not a part of BCCI’s central contract, performed brilliantly so far in the IPL 2024, which helped him get into the 15-member squad. Samson and Pant too have been incredible to make it to the squad.

Also Read – I am very disappointed that Rinku Singh is not included in the team: Irfan Pathan

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit stated that he hasn’t confirmed the playing XI just yet, as he is unaware of the conditions in the USA. However, he kept the door open for playing an extra spinner if required.

  • ‘I hope selectors won’t forget…’ – Sanjay Manjrekar apprehensive about lack of opportunities affecting players’ T20 WC selection

‘I hope selectors won’t forget…’ – Sanjay Manjrekar apprehensive about lack of opportunities affecting players’ T20 WC selection

With the T20 World Cup approaching in June and the ICC demanding a preliminary 15-member squad from every participating nation by May 1 and a finalized one in which only a single change could be made by May 25, the ongoing IPL holds all the more significance till the aforementioned dates. Refocusing on the Indian team, it’s widely recognised that each position is highly competed for, with no room for complacency.

While speaking to Firstpost, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar, focused the spotlight on the same pressing issue, being particularly concerned for southpaw Rinku Singh, who hasn’t had sufficient opportunities to express himself in the ongoing season of the IPL due to the Kolkata Knight Riders not really wanting the services of the lethal finisher, due to their top and middle-order firing on all cylinders. Manjrekar went as far as saying that he was a sure-shot player walking into the squad, having an expansive gamut and variety of shots, spanning all parts of the ground. According to Manjrekar, Rinku was one of his favourite players apart from the big-ticket players forming the nucleus of the Indian atom, saturated with extensive volumes of radioactivity in terms of talent and resources, waiting to explode, come the mega-event in June.

Also Read: Reports: India’s probable 20-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024

“Because he’s not getting many opportunities, I hope selectors won’t forget about Rinku Singh. He’s a straight walk-in into the Indian team. Every time he has got the opportunity, you’ve seen how good he can be, in the sense of his consistency and the range that he has. He’s somebody who I like, apart from the core of the Indian team, apart from the big names we are thinking about,” said Manjrekar.

India need that kind of a player in their T20 team: Manjrekar on Samson

Proceeding forward, another player wanted by Manjrekar to feature in the Indian framework for the T20 World Cup was the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson. Manjrekar believed Samson was finally meeting the humungous level of expectations which everyone has had from a player of his calibre via his batting performances in IPL 2024 so far, and has had a coming-of-age as a batter for the past few months.

His consistency and maturity when he’s playing, and he is on song…India need that kind of a player in their T20 team,” remarked Manjrekar.
