    The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. It is worth mentioning that the India tour of Ireland 2023 is scheduled to commence on August 18, and Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the visit.

    This will be the second occasion that Bumrah will take on the responsibility of leading the Indian side. His first stint as India’s captain came during the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston last year. However, despite the limited experience in captaincy, the Indian management showed trust in Bumrah to lead the national side on the Ireland tour.

    Apart from Bumrah’s appointment as India’s skipper, his return to the international circuit is a bigger exciting development for Indian cricket fans. The pacer was sidelined due to injury for almost 11 months, leaving fans and experts eagerly awaiting his comeback. Bumrah has been training hard for his return for the past few months, and the recent clearance to resume cricket by National Cricket Academy (NCA) marked the end of his arduous journey.

    In addition to Bumrah’s appointment, the selectors have also named young Ruturaj Gaikwad as the vice-captain for the series. Ruturaj’s impressive performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) caught the attention of the selectors, earning him the much-deserved role.

    Maiden call-ups for Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma:

    The squad for the Ireland T20Is features several new faces as well, with IPL sensation Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma receiving their maiden call-ups to the national team after impressive performances. Prasidh Krishna also makes a return to the squad after being out of action due to injury. His raw pace and ability to swing the ball have impressed many, and his presence adds depth to India’s fast-bowling arsenal.

    The other notable names in the Indian squad include young Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan.

    Although the Uttar Pradesh cricketer remained unbeaten on 58, Kolkata Knight Riders lost the contest by 23 runs.

    Rinku’s highest IPL 2023 score came in the last league stage match of Kolkata Knight Riders against Lucknow Super Giants.
    However, Rinku’s sensational innings of 67 in 33 deliveries went in vain as KKR lost the encounter by one run.

    In a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious by a narrow margin of just 1 run against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 68 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With the win, LSG became the third team after Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure the qualification berth.

    Put to bat first, the Super Giants posted a competitive total of 176 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran played a blistering innings, smashing 58 runs off just 30 deliveries, including 4 fours and 5 sixes. Prerak Mankad (26) and Quinton de Kock (28) also made valuable contributions with the bat.

    In the chase of 177, the Knight Riders fell agonisingly short as they managed to score 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.     Former India coach Ravi Shastri has picked the young batters who have impressed him the most in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Shastri reckoned that the next crop of young batters is ready to take the further step and could replicate their form if given a chance to represent India on the international stage.

    Shastri picked the standout players from IPL 2023 while speaking with Sanjana Ganesan on the latest episode of The ICC Review. The ex-Indian cricketer picked Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh as his choices, mentioning how much hard work the duo has done to reach where they are at the moment.

    “One is (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, simply because of the way he’s played this season. And for me it is a marked improvement from what I saw from him last year, which is a very, very positive sign. It shows that there’s a young guy prepared to work on his game, sort out things, get a more all-round game into play and he’s done that this season. Just the power with which he’s re-taking shots. Just the pockets he’s hitting around the ground as opposed to last year is very good,” said Shastri.

    Notably, Yashasvi has scored 575 runs for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 13 games and is the third-highest run-getter this season. The left-handed opener has smashed one hundred and four half-centuries as well.

    “The other bloke is Rinku Singh, which is a great story. The more I see of him, that guy has got a fabulous temperament. He’s tough as nails. Both these guys have come through very hard backgrounds. They’ve worked very hard initially in their lives and nothing’s come easy for them. So you can see that hunger, that passion, that drive that is so needed to make it to the top,” added Shastri.

    Similarly, Rinku had also caught everyone’s eye following his final over heroics for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) early in the tournament when he slammed 5 sixes off Yash Dayal. Rinku has kept the momentum going with more such performances in the ongoing 16th edition of the cash-rich league.

    Even after 61 matches, no team has yet confirmed their qualification spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). In the second contest of the Sunday’s double header, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered an impressive 6-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chepauk and kept themselves alive in the exciting competition.

    Batting first, CSK got off to a slow start with only Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway getting into double digits. Later, Shivam Dube played a brilliant knock of 48 runs off 34 balls, including three sixes, to help the Super Kings reach a total of 144/6 in their 20 overs. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy were the pick of the bowlers for KKR, picking up two wickets each.

    In reply, KKR got off to a shaky start, losing two wickets in the powerplay. However, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh played superb innings to steady the ship. Rana scored 57 runs off 44 balls, including six fours and one six, while Singh scored 54 runs off 43 balls, including four fours and three sixes.

    The duo shared a crucial partnership of 112 runs for the third wicket, which proved to be the difference between the two teams. Deepak Chahar was the only wicket taker for CSK, bagging three scalps in his three overs.

    In a thrilling encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the Knight Riders emerged victorious by 5 runs.

    Batting first, KKR posted a respectable total of 171/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Nitish Rana and superstar Rinku Singh were the standout performers for KKR, scoring 42 and 46 runs respectively. For Sunrisers, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan picked up two wickets each.

    In response, SRH started off on a positive note, but lost wickets at regular intervals and were always chasing the game. Aiden Markram top-scored for SRH with 41 runs, while Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad made useful contributions down the order.

    However, some disciplined bowling from KKR, especially from Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur, saw SRH fall short by 5 runs, finishing their innings on 166/8 in 20 overs. Shardul and Vaibhav picked up two wickets each, while Harshit Rana, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, and Varun Chakrvarthy claimed one wicket each. Chakravarthy, in particular, played a crucial role as he defended eight runs in the final over to help KKR seal the deal.
