Pat Cummins highlights the key danger for Australia

Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, has singled out Rishabh Pant as a major threat to his team in the upcoming series. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Cummins acknowledged Pant’s explosive form since his return to Test cricket, where he has scored 422 runs in five matches at an average of 46.88 and a strike rate of 86.47, including a century and three fifties. Cummins remarked that Pant’s ability to change the momentum of the game quickly makes him a player Australia will need to manage carefully.

“Yeah, he is someone who always moves the game on pretty quickly, so for some of the players, you have to have some sound plans, too. He’s played well, he had a good series out here in Australia next time. So yeah, we know he can be dangerous when he gets going, so [we’ll] try and have some good plans and hope they come off,” Cummins said.

Pant has been a force to be reckoned with in Australia, boasting an outstanding average of 62.40 from 12 innings, accumulating 624 runs, which includes a century and two scores over 80. His ability to thrive on Australian pitches makes him one of the most dangerous players in the series. As India targets their third consecutive BGT victory in Australia, Pant’s performances will be critical to their success. His ability to dominate and change the course of the game quickly will be a focal point for both India and Australia.

Not Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma: Ajaz Patel names Indian player who terrifies rival teams

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant emerged as the lone warrior, delivering a fearless and explosive display that set the Wankhede Stadium ablaze in the third and final Test against New Zealand.

However, Pant was fabulous throughout the three-match Test series at home. With India on the brink of a consolation victory in the final Test at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, Rishabh Pant’s blistering knock of 60 runs kept the New Zealand bowlers on edge and fans on their feet, proving his capability to shift momentum single-handedly.

Ajaz Patel reveals Rishabh Pant as a “constant threat” during New Zealand’s historic Test sweep against India

However, the high-stakes game ended in heartbreak, as the left-handed batter’s controversial dismissal saw Team India falter just 25 runs short, with the Kiwis completing a historic whitewash. Well, Pant’s fierce performance didn’t go unnoticed by either his teammates or the opposition.

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel, who had wreaked havoc on India’s batting lineup, taking 15 wickets across the six innings, admitted that Rishabh Pant was a constant threat. With every boundary, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter appeared to remind the Kiwis why he is one of the most formidable and fearless batters in Test cricket today.

Ajaz Patel even revealed that Pant was their first target, acknowledging the unpredictable force the Indian southpaw brings to the game. Unlike many batters who might be weighed down by the pressure of a crumbling batting lineup, Pant’s unwavering aggression proved a nightmare for the Kiwi’s bowling attack, which was struggling to control his firepower in the Test series.

When Rishabh Pant is in the crease, everyone is scared: Ajaz Patel

Ajaz Patel was quoted as saying by NDTV: “When Rishabh Pant is in the crease, everyone is scared. We targeted Rishabh Pant the most in this series. He doesn’t fear when in the middle. He plays his game, no matter what. His philosophy is till the time you are on the crease, you do what you want to; if you get out, no problem.”

The Mumbai-born Kiwi spinner was also asked about India’s upcoming tour of Australia, where the two teams will square off in a 5-match Test series. Patel said that India has some of the best players in the world; all they need to succeed Down Under is to believe in themselves.

As India set to travel to Australia for a five-match Test series this month, Ajaz Patel shared insights on what it will take for Team India to conquer the challenging Aussie pitches.

The Kiwi spinner highlighted that Australian conditions demand a fresh approach, warning against carrying baggage from their recent whitewash into this new challenge.

‘Conditions in Australia would be different’

He added that Australia’s unique pitches and relentless pressure require Indian players to trust their skills and adapt their game. Patel signed off by saying, “Conditions in Australia would be different. If you take this series into Australia, there would not be any benefit. You need to start with a new mindset. You have some of the best players, some of whom have even played in Australia.

There would be pressure, but wins and losses are part of the game. The important thing is to keep the trust and belief alive. You need to learn to focus on what’s next in line and move on from what has happened.”

  • KL Rahul to be backup wicketkeeper for 2nd IND vs BAN Test due to…

KL Rahul to be backup wicketkeeper for 2nd IND vs BAN Test due to…

India National Cricket Team star KL Rahul will be a backup wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant in the upcoming second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The last match of the series is set to be played at the Green Park in Kanpur from 27th September.

India have named the unchanged squad for the second Test against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. But all the players won’t be available for the team in the game. Indian players Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal were named in the Rest of India squad for the upcoming Irani Cup match against Mumbai, slated to begin on October 1.

But the statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India mentioned that Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal’s participation will be subjected to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh. They most likely won’t be featured for the national team as the team has a fixed combination.

Dhruv Jurel, in particular, is unlikely to play in the second Test because Rishabh Pant made a grand comeback to Test cricket. The left-hander slammed a sensational hundred in the second innings and helped his team win the first game of the series by a massive margin of 280 runs.

Therefore Dhruv Jurel is almost set to feature in the Irani Cup match. This leaves the Indian Team without a backup keeper in the team. But the India National Cricket Team have already chalked out the plan for this for the upcoming second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

KL Rahul will be the backup keeper in the second Test against Bangladesh

As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that KL Rahul will be the backup keeper in the second Test against Bangladesh. He performed the role for the team during the two-match Test series against the South Africa National Cricket Team, which took place in December-January 2023-24.

KL Rahul performed a great role for the team with the gloves during the South Africa tour. The right-hander didn’t make any errors and took brilliant catches behind the stumps. And that also didn’t affect his batting as he slammed a terrific century as well for the team in the first game of the series

KL Rahul played as a pure batter in the first game against Bangladesh. He batted in the middle order but looked locked at the crease. In the first innings, 16 runs off 52 balls but played freely in the second innings. He made an unbeaten 22 runs off 19 balls with 4 boundaries before India declared the innings.

KL Rahul would be eager to make a massive impact in the second innings with the bat. Going into the Test series against New Zealand National Cricket Team and Australia National Cricket Team, the right-hander would be a vital cog in the wheel for his team in the middle order.

India won the first Test of the series against Bangladesh by a massive margin of 280 runs. They would be keen to continue their good form and win the second game to complete the 2-0 whitewash in the series.

India’s main goal should be to prioritize Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant’s fitness: Ian Chappell

India registered a dominating 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test match at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has emphasized the importance of maintaining the fitness of key players Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. As India leads the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, Chappell has pointed out the team’s priorities moving forward.

In the recent Test match, Bumrah played a crucial role in India’s success, claiming four wickets in the first innings and adding another in the second. Looking ahead, India has a challenging schedule in the WTC, with upcoming series against New Zealand (three Tests at home) and Australia (five Tests away).

In his column for ESPNcricinfo, Chappell stressed that while India should aim to get more players into form, the primary focus must be on ensuring the fitness of Bumrah and Pant.

“India’s main goal should be to get as many players into form as possible while avoiding major injuries. However, the focus must be on ensuring the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant,” Chappell wrote.

Rishabh Pant has evolved into a skilled gloveman: Ian Chappell

The veteran also praised Pant’s progress as a wicketkeeper, particularly against spin bowling. He emphasized Pant’s improvement after an ultimatum from former head coach Ravi Shastri.

“A keeper who meets these demands not only enhances the team’s fielding but also allows slip fielders to spread wider and cover more ground. Before his serious injury, Pant’s ability to stand up to the stumps significantly improved after an ultimatum from Shastri. His evolution from a questionable keeper against spinners to a skilled gloveman at the stumps shows his dedication,” he added.

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, set to begin on November 22 in Perth, will be a significant test for the Indian team. With five Tests scheduled across various venues, including a day-night match in Adelaide, the series will once again test the side.

Netizens react as Rishabh Pant & Shubman Gill’s tons put India in the driving seat on Day 3 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh

Team India remain in a commanding position at the end of Day 3 of the 1st Test in Chennai, firmly setting their sights on a victory after declaring with a massive lead. After dominating with the bat, courtesy of centuries from young stars, India set a daunting target of 515 for Bangladesh. Despite a resilient start from Bangladesh’s openers, the Indian bowlers struck late in the day to leave the visitors struggling. With two days left in the match, India hold all the aces as they eye a comfortable win.

Blazing centuries from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill both dazzled on Day 3, putting India in the driver’s seat with their well-paced centuries. Pant, making his return to Test cricket after 637 days, played a more measured knock compared to his usual aggressive style, reaching his sixth Test hundred in 124 deliveries. Gill, on the other hand, brought up his fifth Test century with a composed knock, reaching the milestone in 161 balls. The pair’s partnership helped India pile on the runs and set a mammoth target, leaving Bangladesh under immense pressure.

    Bangladesh’s openers fight back

In response, Bangladesh showed resilience at the start of their second innings. The openers, Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto, batted patiently and forged a crucial 50-run stand before tea, giving their team a fighting chance. However, their good start was short-lived as both openers fell in quick succession after the break.

Zakir was dismissed for the second time in the match by Jasprit Bumrah, with Yashasvi Jaiswal pulling off a stunning catch. Following that, Ravichandran Ashwin, who had gone wicketless in the first innings, made a strong comeback, picking up three vital wickets in the final session, further denting Bangladesh’s hopes.

Play ends early due to bad light

As the day neared its close, the lights came on in Chennai, and the umpires had a brief discussion before deciding to call off play due to bad light. Interestingly, Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj humorously mimicked bowling spin, but to no avail, as play was halted for the day.

The only shining light for Bangladesh wa Shanto, who fought back bravely with a well-constructed half-century. Shanto showed impressive footwork and used the sweep shot effectively against both Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, offering some resistance to India’s bowlers.

  • IND vs AUS: Ricky Ponting warns Australia to beware of this Indian player, no mention of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

IND vs AUS: Ricky Ponting warns Australia to beware of this Indian player, no mention of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has showered rich praise on the talented wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for his immense contribution to Indian cricket. The legendary batter also talked about Pant’s great achievements and resilience.

Ponting has described Pant as a “winner,” saying the left-hander has already made a big impact in his short career. The 25-year-old star has already cemented his place in the Indian cricket team in all three formats after recovering from the several injuries that he sustained during his car crash in December 2022.

Rishabh Pant is a serious cricketer: Ricky Ponting

With India gearing up for a grueling Test tour of Australia, Pant, who was already a hero for his team in their past triumphs, will be once again the X-factor for the tourists to pull off a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia. Notably, they will play a five-match Test series later this year.

Pantt is known for his playful nature both on and off the field, and even in the recent Duleep Trophy 2024 match, the wicketkeeper-batter was seen cracking some jokes with Kuldeep Yadav, but his spark hasn’t waned off, as he already smashed a fifty in the tournament. It was his comeback game in the red-ball cricket.

Reacting to his character, the former Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach stressed that Pant has fun on the field, but that doesn’t mean he is not serious about his cricketer. Furthermore, Ponting compared Pant with the legendary MS Dhoni in terms of their Test centuries and significant performances.

Ricky Ponting compares Rishabh Pant to MS Dhoni

Ricky Ponting was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “We’ve all seen him play and heard him in the stump mic; he’s an infectious character to have around the group. He loves his cricket; he’s a winner; that’s what he is. He doesn’t just play to make a few runs and be out there for the fun of it.

He must have 4 or 5 Test hundreds already, and he’s got about nine 90s as well. [MS] Dhoni played for 120 Tests (90) and made 3 or 4 hundreds (6); this is how good this guy (Pant) is. He’s a serious cricketer.”

The former Australian captain pointed out how fantastically Pant can balance his entertaining personality with his serious approach to the game, and this quality sets him apart from others.

Ricky Ponting is also impressed by Pant’s strength and mental toughness after the severe car accident. He said that there were difficulties in his path, but Pant’s determination to return to the game and form helped him to return as a champion player.

Ricky Ponting recalled when Pant was confident of his recovery and true to his confidence, the DC skipper played not only in the IPL 2024 as a wicketkeeper-batter but also played an important role in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph.

Ricky Ponting signed off by saying, “It’s a remarkable comeback. I didn’t think he would play IPL 2024. But 12 months before, he said, ‘Don’t worry about me; I guarantee you I’ll be right for the IPL.’ We thought he’d be able to bat, and we might have to use him as a sub-player (impact player), but he kept every game, was one of our leading run-scorers, bats No. 3 in the T20 World Cup, is part of a World Cup-winning team, and is named in the Test squad now.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced India’s squad for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh. The series opener will be played in Chennai from September 19-23.

Skipper Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the India squad in red-ball cricket after announcing his retirement from the T20 internationals.

The recall of Rishabh Pant, maiden chance to Yash Dayal

The most notable inclusion in the squad is the return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has made a strong comeback after a long injury layoff. Pant, who was instrumental in India’s Test success in recent years, will be eager to make an immediate impact.

Another significant addition to the squad is the inclusion of Yash Dayal, who has earned a maiden Test call-up based on his impressive performances in domestic cricket. Dayal joins a pace attack that already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul return

India’s batting lineup is bolstered by the return of Virat Kohli, who missed the five-match Test series against England due to personal reasons. Kohli, one of the greatest batsmen of his generation, will be eager to contribute significantly in the series.

WATCH: Akash Deep’s dream delivery stuns Nitish Kumar Reddy in Duleep Trophy 2024

The Duleep Trophy 2024 is currently set for a thriller between India A and India B, but it’s been a one-sided affair so far. India A’s bowling unit has dominated proceedings, leaving India B’s batters struggling to find their rhythm.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal’s lone resistance

Amidst the carnage, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out as the lone warrior for India B. His elegant strokes and positive intent provided a glimmer of hope for his team. However, once he departed for a well-made 30, the batting order collapsed like a house of cards.

Akash Deep’s stellar performance in India A’s onslaught

One of the standout performers for India A has been Akash Deep. The pacer in the first and second session was consistently accurate, bowling at perfect lines and lengths, and has picked up crucial wickets. His ability to extract movement from the pitch has made him a nightmare for the India B batters.

Nitish Kumar Reddy falls victim to Deep’s masterclass

Deep’s highlight of the match was a sensational delivery that dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy. The pacer bowled a length ball on the middle stump, which nipped away after pitching, and beat the outside edge to castle the top of off stump. It was a classic example of precision and skill, leaving the batter stunned and the bowler jubilant.

India B batters exposed on a green top

The Duleep Trophy pitch has been prepared with an eye on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Series in Australia. The green top has certainly exposed the technical deficiencies of some of the Indian batters. India B’s captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran, was dismissed for just 13, and even Yashasvi Jaiswal, despite his early promise, struggled to control his aggression and was sent packing for 30.

    Middle order collapse

The middle order of India B has been particularly vulnerable. Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and star batter Rishabh Pant have all failed to make a significant contribution. With India B struggling at 124/7 till the tea break, it seems highly unlikely that they can recover from this precarious position.

As the Duleep Trophy progresses, it will be interesting to see if India B can find a way to bounce back. However, given the dominance of India A’s bowling attack, it appears that they will have their work cut out.

‘I try to work as hard as I possibly can’ – Rishabh Pant slogs ahead of Duleep Trophy 2024

Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant recently came forward and shared a clip where he was seen working hard in the nets ahead of the 2024 Duleep Trophy. With the competition set to begin on September 5, Pant looks set to make his comeback to red-ball cricket.

It is worth noting that Pant last played a Test match in 2022 against Bangladesh, shortly after which he sustained life-threatening injuries after he was involved in a car accident in December 2022.

However, making a miraculous recovery, Pant has returned and is raring to have a crack at red-ball cricket once more. He recently took to Instagram and shared a clip of himself batting in the nets.

“I try not to have expectations because they can tend to tear you apart. I try to work as hard as I possibly can and give every ounce of a hundred percent & keep Learning from it,” Pant captioned the post.

Interestingly, Pant has made 33 Test appearances for India, where he has managed to amass 2271 runs to his name, at an average of 43.67 runs, which has included five centuries as well. Some of them are coming at crucial times as well. The star batter was exceptional and crucial in India winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia as well.

After his accident, Pant made his return to white-ball cricket with the 2024 T20 World Cup, playing the IPL 2024 prior to that. He made his return to ODI cricket in the last ODI against Sri Lanka recently, where he failed to impress with his performances.

However, the road to making a return to Test cricket will not be easy for Pant; the likes of Dhruv Jurel and Ishan Kishan have put in good performances for India in the longest format, and surely Pant will have to fight for his way back into the squad.
