    Bavuma and Markram had earlier stabilized the innings with a 70-run fourth-wicket stand. However, Bavuma’s dismissal, edging a length ball from Aamer Jamal, opened the floodgates for Pakistan’s bowlers. Bedingham briefly counterattacked, smashing five boundaries in his 33-ball knock, but Naseem’s extra bounce proved too difficult to handle as Bedingham nicked a sharp delivery to first slip just before lunch.     Day 2 between South Africa and Pakistan was a whirlwind of an experience. Resuming on 82/3, the hosts would have hoped to build on their score. 

    Aiden Markram brought up his 13th half-century with a picturesque cover-drive on the first delivery of the third over of the day. Temba Bavuma’s first boundary came on the 35th delivery he faced. Overs 28-30 included a boundary each, as the Proteas batters seemed set. Aamer Jamal was introduced for the first time in the 32nd over.

    Although the first three overs of his spell were a tad bit expensive, he was successful in dismissing Bavuma in his fourth over. David Bedingham came out and played with intent, but was soon back to the pavilion. The batter jabbed at a Naseem Shah delivery, which was caught at first slip. 

    Naseem’s second and third wickets came briefly after Lunch. Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen both departed for a 13-ball two-run score, respectively. It was then when Corbin Bosch arrived at the middle. He was off and running straightaway. Just as it was seeming as if Markram would cap off 2024 with a Test hundred, he gloved a cross-seam delivery from Khurram Shahzad to fall 11 short of the milestone.

    Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson contributed 13 and 12 to the total, respectively. However, it was Bosch’s unbeaten 81* which deservedly stole the limelight. Batting with the tail, he displayed immense prowess and did not fail on capitalizing on chances to add to the scoreboard. South Africa ended up on 301 after being eight-down for 213 at one stage.

    Pakistan started off their second innings in quite a positive fashion. They put on 39 in the first six overs. A scorcher from Kagiso Rabada sneaked through the defence of Saim Ayub.

    The visitors did finish off the day with a flurry of boundaries. However, it was Marco Jansen whose double strikes of Shan Masood and Kamran Ghulam which tilted the scale towards the hosts.

    Star South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen has captured all the headlines after he was recently fined by the ICC (International Cricket Council) for breaching their code of conduct. The star batter was fined 15% of his match fee for committing a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

    One demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record for violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. It is worth noting that the fine was given to him after he kicked the stumps following his dismissal against Pakistan in the second ODI of the ongoing series. 

    Klaasen was the standout performer for the Proteas in the second ODI. Aiming to chase down a target of 330 runs, Klaasen scored 97 runs in 74 deliveries but his knock was not enough to propel the Proteas to a win. 

    South Africa hope for consolation win in third ODI

    Speaking of the ongoing ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan, the series has been a forgettable one for the Proteas. With two ODIs done, Pakistan have managed to win both the games. The Men in Green registered a three-wicket win in Paarl and followed it up with another good showing in Cape Town. 

    In the second ODI, Pakistan came in to bat first, and thanks to Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam who scored 80 and 73 runs, respectively, Pakistan posted a total of 329 runs on the board. Furthermore, they managed to limit South Africa on a score of 248 runs, thanks to Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah as Pakistan registered a 81-run win. 

    Winning the series, Pakistan will shift their focus onto the third and final ODI. Where the Men in Green will look for a clean sweep, the Proteas will hope for a consolation win. For the third ODI, both sides will lock horns at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Sunday, December 22.

His elegant strokeplay, combined with Mohammad Rizwan’s power-packed 80 off 82 balls, laid a strong foundation.

    Kamran Ghulam stole the show with a breathtaking knock of 63 runs off just 32 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes. His late-innings fireworks propelled Pakistan to a formidable total.

    For South Africa, Kwena Maphaka was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 72 runs. Marco Jansen also impressed with figures of 3/71, while Bjorn Fortuin chipped in with one wicket.

    In reply, South Africa’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing Temba Bavuma (12) and Tony de Zorzi (34) relatively early. Heinrich Klaasen was the lone warrior for the Proteas, smashing a scintillating 97 off 74 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes. His aggressive knock gave South Africa a glimmer of hope, but the lack of support from the other batters proved costly.

    David Miller added 29 runs off 39 balls, while Aiden Markram managed 21 off 30. However, the rest of the lineup crumbled under the pressure of a steep target. The Proteas were bowled out for 248 runs in just 43.1 overs.

    Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi led the charge for Pakistan with a sensational four-wicket haul, conceding just 47 runs in his eight overs. Naseem Shah was equally effective, picking up three wickets for 37 runs.
