Free agency has sparked expectations in many places. One such place is with the Dallas Cowboys, who are in talks for a new contract for their defensive star, Micah Parsons. In the same National Conference, but in the West Division, a similar situation is unfolding.
The San Francisco 49ers have been in discussions with their quarterback, Brock Purdy, who is entering the final year of his contract and is on the verge of becoming one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

After being selected with the last pick of the 2022 Draft, Purdy has performed well, especially in 2023 when he led the team to the Super Bowl. However, last season was not as strong, raising some doubts. Still, he is expected to receive a new contract.
The 49ers’ owner revealed the effort the team is making to secure Purdy’s new deal
The San Francisco 49ers have yet to make a major acquisition in free agency, possibly to ensure they have both the capital and salary cap space to extend Brock Purdy.
49ers fans have sparked controversy on social media, frustrated by the team’s lack of reinforcements-especially considering that San Francisco finished last in its division last season. However, team owner Jed York told ESPN that the main reason for this is Purdy’s impending contract.
“I get it. Fans care. They want to win. And when you’re in a world where everyone is watching the NFL during the first week of free agency, or at least the first few days, it becomes a frenzy. … When you’re not very active in that space, it’s easy to say, ‘Oh, you don’t want to win.’ … I don’t know if, looking at the big picture, we found someone who could have a bigger impact than deciding to pay Brock.”
In 2024, Purdy threw 20 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. However, towards the end of the season, he left something to be desired with poor throws in key moments. Still, at this point, Brock remains the best option for the 49ers.
