IPL 2025 [WATCH]: Vaibhav Arora roars with passion after shattering Sanju Samson’s stumps with a deadly yorker during RR vs KKR clash

The Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati witnessed an electrifying start to Match 6 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced off against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Both teams entered the contest seeking redemption after losing their opening games. KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, won the toss and opted to field, banking on the dew factor to aid their chase later in the evening. RR, under Riyan Parag’s captaincy, looked determined to set a formidable target on home soil.

The match started with RR’s dynamic opening pair – Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson – taking center stage. The duo, who also represent India in T20Is, reunited at the top following Jos Buttler’s departure to the Gujarat Titans. However, amidst the excitement, Vaibhav Arora produced a moment of brilliance that shifted the momentum early in the game.

Vaibhav Arora’s inswinging delivery shatters Sanju Samson’s stumps

Samson, known for his explosive starts in IPL seasons, had already made headlines with a scintillating knock of 66 off 37 balls over the weekend. On Wednesday, however, his innings was cut short by a spectacular delivery from Arora. Samson started confidently as he struck two boundaries early on.

In the fourth over, with RR at 33/1, Samson attempted to manufacture room by stepping out too early. Arora seized the opportunity and delivered a pinpoint yorker that swung in late. Samson found himself cramped for space and inadvertently yorked himself. The ball crashed into the leg stump, leaving Samson stunned and Guwahati roaring in appreciation of Arora’s skill. The wicket marked a crucial breakthrough for KKR as they sought to contain RR’s aggressive top order.

RR lose their way against KKR’s bowlers

Following Samson’s dismissal at 33/1 in 3.5 overs, RR struggled to maintain their scoring rate. Jaiswal departed soon after for 29, caught off Moeen Ali’s bowling, leaving RR at 69/3 by the eighth over. Despite brief resistance from Riyan Parag (25 off 15) and Dhruv Jurel (33 off 28), wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.

The middle order failed to capitalize on starts as Nitish Rana (8), Wanindu Hasaranga (4), and Shubham Dubey (9) fell cheaply. A late cameo from Jofra Archer (16 off 7) helped push RR past the 150-run mark, but their total of 151/9 in 20 overs felt below par given KKR’s strong batting lineup Arora finished his four-over spell with figures of 2/33 at an economy rate of 8.66. While he conceded boundaries early on, his ability to execute yorkers under pressure proved invaluable for KKR. His dismissal of Samson highlighted his knack for delivering game-changing moments – a trait that could make him a key player for KKR this season.

IPL 2025: Salary of Rajasthan Royals (RR) players; check out how much Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal earn

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a renewed sense of determination, eager to secure their second IPL title after their triumph in 2008. Despite a strong start in IPL 2024, the team faltered in the latter half, missing out on a deep playoff run. This setback prompted significant reinforcements at the 2025 mega auction, ensuring a well-balanced squad that can handle pressure situations better. The frustration of not converting potential into success has fueled their desire to go all the way this season.

Strategic leadership shift: Rahul Dravid’s influence

A major change for RR in IPL 2025 is the appointment of Rahul Dravid as head coach. Dravid’s arrival signals a shift in tactical approach, emphasizing mental resilience, adaptability, and strategic consistency – areas where Rajasthan have struggled in previous seasons. His vast coaching experience, including guiding India to multiple ICC finals, is expected to bring much-needed stability and direction to the team. With Sanju Samson retaining captaincy, the Royals now have a strong leadership duo aiming to instill discipline and execute match-winning strategies.

Core players and key additions strengthening RR

RR have retained a solid core, with Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel forming the backbone of their batting unit. These players have been instrumental in Rajasthan’s recent campaigns, providing explosiveness at the top and stability in the middle order.

To strengthen their squad further, RR made two significant signings at the auction:

    • Jofra Archer – The return of Archer adds raw pace and firepower to the bowling attack. If fully fit, his ability to bowl quick, aggressive spells in the powerplay and at the death will be a game-changer. His presence also provides much-needed balance to the fast-bowling unit, which lacked consistency last season.
    • Nitish Rana – A valuable left-handed batter who can slot in both at the top and in the middle order. Rana’s aggressive batting style and ability to counter spin make him a versatile asset in RR’s lineup.

Twitter reactions: Clinical India thrash England in Mumbai T20I to clinch the series 4-1

India delivered a dominant performance in the fifth and final T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, securing a massive 150-run victory to seal the series 4-1. Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 247/9, courtesy of a breathtaking 135 off 54 balls from Abhishek Sharma. England, in response, faltered under the pressure of a record chase and were bundled out for just 97 in 10.3 overs, with Mohammed Shami, Shivam Dube and Abhishek starring with the ball. The emphatic win showcased India’s superior firepower and tactical acumen, leaving England with no answers to the hosts’ aggressive approach.

Abhishek Sharma’s carnage and India’s explosive batting display

Put in to bat, India got off to a brisk start despite losing Sanju Samson early for 16. The stage was then taken over by Abhishek, who produced a sensational knock, hammering 135 runs off just 54 balls, laced with seven fours and 13 sixes. His blistering strike rate of 250 kept England bowlers on the back foot as he single-handedly dominated the innings. Tilak Varma (24 off 15) played a brief supporting role before Dube (30 off 13) added further impetus to the total. The middle and lower order could not contribute significantly, but India’s aggressive approach ensured they amassed a formidable 247/9 in 20 overs. England’s bowlers struggled, with Brydon Carse (3/38) being the only standout performer amid the onslaught.

England collapse under pressure in record chase

Chasing a daunting target of 248, England had a promising start as Phil Salt blazed his way to a rapid 55 off 23 balls, striking seven boundaries and three sixes. However, his dismissal triggered a complete batting collapse, with wickets falling in quick succession. Shami (3/25) made early inroads, removing Ben Duckett and later wrapping up the tail. Varun Chakravarthy (2/25) and Dube (2/11) played crucial roles in dismantling England’s lineup.

Harry Brook, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone all failed to provide resistance, and England’s innings crumbled within 10.3 overs for a meager 97. The Indian bowlers executed their plans perfectly, ensuring an emphatic conclusion to a dominant series victory. With this win, India not only claimed the series 4-1 but also sent a strong message with their aggressive batting and disciplined bowling performances.

Twitter reactions: England outsmart India in 3rd T20I to keep the series alive

England defeated India by 26 runs in the 3rd T20I at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, to narrow the deficit in the five-match series to 2-1. Choosing to field first, India struggled to contain England’s power-hitters in form of Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone, while their batting faltered under the pressure of a challenging target of 172. England’s bowlers, led by Jamie Overton and Jofra Archer, capitalized on India’s struggles to keep the series alive.

England’s resilient batting sets the stage

England posted a competitive 171/9 on the back of a crucial knock by Duckett (51 off 28), who displayed aggression and precision against India’s spinners. Supported by Livingstone’s fiery 43 off 24, the middle-order ensured England capitalized on the powerplay and middle overs. Jos Buttler (24 off 22) provided stability at the top but fell to a well-executed plan by Varun Chakravarthy, who was the pick of the bowlers with remarkable figures of 5/24.

Chakravarthy’s guile dismantled England’s batting, picking wickets regularly and keeping their run rate in check. However, lower-order contributions from Adil Rashid and Mark Wood ensured England finished strongly despite losing wickets in clusters. India’s bowlers had a mixed day, with Ravi Bishnoi conceding 46 runs for one wicket and Hardik Pandya (2/33) offering occasional breakthroughs. Axar Patel (1/19) maintained control, but Washington Sundar and Mohammed Shami struggled, leaking runs under pressure.

India’s batting collapse seals England’s victory

Chasing 172, India’s innings never gained momentum, as regular wickets derailed their chase. The early loss of Sanju Samson (3) and Abhishek Sharma (24 off 14) in the powerplay added pressure. Suryakumar Yadav (14 off 7) looked promising with a quick cameo but fell to Mark Wood, while Tilak Varma (18 off 14) and Sundar (6 off 15) struggled to anchor the innings.

Hardik (40 off 35) fought valiantly, but the lack of partnerships and rising required rate made the chase increasingly difficult. England’s bowlers, particularly Jamie Overton (3/23) and Jofra Archer (2/33), executed their plans to perfection, consistently striking at crucial junctures. Adil Rashid’s economical spell (1/15) applied pressure in the middle overs, leaving India with too much to do in the death overs. India’s tailenders offered little resistance as they ended at 146/9 in 20 overs. England’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured they stayed in contention for the series, setting up an intriguing battle in the final two games.

Watch: Sanju Samson’s ‘Pehla Nasha’ performance slams into Suryakumar Yadav’s savage Indian Idol burn

India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson showcased a fun side of himself ahead of the five-match T20I series against England. Sanju Samson sang the popular Bollywood song “Pehla Nasha” during a session with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, but his teammate Suryakumar Yadav decided to troll him.

Samson is well-known as one of Team India’s top wicketkeeper-batters. He is the first-choice wicketkeeper and opening batter in T20Is, following his impressive performances in South Africa. The right-handed batter surpassed Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan in the shortest format for the wicketkeeper role.

Sanju Samson Sings Classic Hit; Suryakumar Yadav Trolls in Fun Moment

On Monday, January 20, Sanju Samson shared a video on social media of himself singing the popular Bollywood song “Pehla Nasha” with Abhishek Nayar. The duo showcased their singing talents ahead of the first T20I against England, which is scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.

The moment was enjoyed by their teammates, especially Suryakumar Yadav. Samson shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “Nothing is impossible !!! Njan paadi 🤣🤣🤣 Mein Mumbai aa sakta hu?”.

The phrase “Mein Mumbai aa sakta hu?” references the popular TV talent show Indian Idol, where successful contestants are invited to Mumbai for the main rounds after passing the auditions in their cities.

Suryakumar Yadav humorously trolled Sanju Samson in the comments section of the video. “Aap Mumbai aa rahe hai lekin Chennai Rajkot Pune audition ke baad (You are coming to Mumbai but after auditions in Chennai, Rajkot and Pune),” Suryakumar was quick to react in the comments section.

Final T20I of the Series Scheduled for February 2 in Mumbai

The series will begin in Kolkata, followed by matches in Chennai (January 25), Rajkot (January 28), Pune (January 31), and the final game in Mumbai on February 2.

India and England have faced each other 24 times in T20I cricket, with India winning 13 of those encounters and England claiming 11 victories. The most recent match between the two teams was in the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final, where India posted 171 runs.

Rohit Sharma (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (47) were the standout performers. In response, the England team was bowled out for just 103, losing by 68 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel each took three wickets. India went on to win the final against South Africa, claiming their second T20 World Cup title.

Sanju Samson Omitted from India’s ODI Squad

Sanju Samson was pulled out of Kerala’s Ranji Trophy squad after being named in India’s T20I squad. Samson may still have a chance to play in the knockout phase, as Kerala is currently placed second in the group, 18 points behind Haryana, the leaders.

Samson was also absent from Kerala’s squad in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy after skipping a three-day camp before the tournament. As a result, he was not considered for India’s ODI squad against England or the Champions Trophy, despite scoring a century against South Africa in Paarl.

“In dressing room, he…”: Sanju Samson credits Gautam Gambhir’s ‘favoritism’ for pivotal role in his success

Team India wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has thanked head coach Gautam Gambhir after tasting belated success in international cricket. Sanju Samson shared how Gautam Gambhir’s unwavering support and belief in his abilities helped him overcome years of inconsistency batting in international cricket.

Sanju Samson, who debuted for India in 2015, experienced inconsistency and was in and out of white-ball squads for the next few years. The Kerala batter scored his maiden international century in an ODI against South Africa in December 2023. Samson has also hit three centuries in his last five T20I innings.

Gautam Gambhir Told Me ‘Sanju, I Know What You Have’ – Sanju Samson

In a conversation with AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel, Samson said that Gautam Gambhir played a pivotal role in his success. Samson shared that the coach encouraged him to play freely and express himself in every innings. He stated that this clear communication boosted his confidence.

“When he came to the Indian team, in the dressing room he told me ‘Sanju, I know what you have. You have something special. I am going to be back you no matter what’. He told me to walk in, go out there and express myself in every innings. That kind of communication from the coach, that gave me clarity and confidence,” Samson said.

I Thought ‘Come on Sanju, You Need to Show Something’ – Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson admitted feeling disappointed with his initial failures, as he was eager to justify the trust shown in him by Gautam Gambhir. Samson attributed his recent successes to divine blessings and wants to keep scoring runs and winning matches for India.

“After few games of dismissals, you feel pressure because you have a guy who’s backing you and you are not performing. I thought ‘common Sanju, you need to show something and repay the faith the coach has in’. By God’s grace, something special has happened. I want to continue scoring runs and win games for my country,” the 30-year-old went on to add.

The right-handed batter has played 16 ODIs and 37 T20Is. Samson has amassed 510 runs in ODIs at an average of 56.66, including one century and three half-centuries. He has scored 810 T20I runs with an average of 27.93 and a strike rate of 155.17, including three centuries and two fifties.

I Had a Decent Relationship with Gautam Gambhir Right from a Young Age – Sanju Samson

Samson reflected on his long-standing connection with Gautam Gambhir, which began during his early IPL days. His first IPL team was the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where Gambhir served as captain. Samson said that he joined KKR’s B team at 14 and made it to the main squad at 17.

“Yeah, it has been. I had a decent relationship with Gautam Gambir right from a young age. My first IPL team was KKR. When I was 14, they picked me on their B team. At the age of 17, I made it to the KKR main side and that was when KKR won the Championship under Gautam Gambhir.”

SA vs IND [WATCH]: Sanju Samson’s big six hits a female fan on her face in the 4th T20I

An unusual incident occurred during the fourth T20I between India and South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, when a six struck by Sanju Samson unintentionally injured a female fan in the stands.

Explosive start by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma

Notably, India opted to bat first in the series finale, and their openers, Samson and Abhishek Sharma, made a blazing start. The pair added 73 runs during the powerplay, setting a strong foundation. Abhishek contributed 36 off 18 balls before being caught behind off Lutho Sipamla in the final delivery of the sixth over.

Samson, however, kept the momentum alive, bringing up his fifty in style with a maximum on the first ball of the 10th over. The six that followed, though intended to entertain, led to the unfortunate incident in the crowd.

Samson’s big hit ends up hitting a fan

Notably, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter launched a massive hit over midwicket in the 10th over off Tristan Stubbs, which unfortunately landed directly on the spectator’s face. The injured fan was seen in significant discomfort and was quickly provided with an ice pack to manage the swelling. Although visibly upset, she received prompt assistance while the game continued.

Sanju Samson’s father fires explosive allegations against Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit, Dravid: “Wasted 10 years of my son”

India National Cricket Team batter Sanju Samson’s father, Vishwanath, has accused MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma of wasting 10 years of his son’s career. He made a strong statement, saying that three stalwarts of Indian cricket hurt him, but he came out with an even stronger response.

Sanju Samson’s father’s comments came after his son came up with two back-to-back centuries in the T20I cricket. The keeper-batter, who has been in and out of the Indian team, has got the new role of opening under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Sanju Samson registers two ducks after two centuries in T20Is

Sanju Samson, although it took some time to get going in the opening role, made sure he developed himself in the role. He set the stage on fire in the last T20I against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team as he slammed his maiden T20I century and made a strong statement.

However, after that, he didn’t look back as he started the ongoing T20I series against South Africa where he left off against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The keeper-batter came up another century and became the first India batter to hit two back-to-back centuries in T20Is.

But since the last two games, Samson has failed to maintain the consistency. The opening batter, who hit two centuries on the trot, bagged two consecutive ducks. He became the India batter with the most number of ducks in T20Is in a single year as he got out without scoring five times this year.

There are 3-4 people who wasted 10 years of my son’s vital career – Sanju Samson’s father

With Samson going through a roller-coaster ride, his father’s comments have gone viral. Vishwanath stressed that his son didn’t get opportunities under MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. Speaking to the Malayalam-language television channel MediaOne, he said:

“There are 3-4 people who wasted 10 years of my son’s vital career…captains like Dhoni ji, Virat [Kohli] ji, Rohit [Sharma] ji and coach [Rahul] Dravid ji. These four people wasted 10 years of my son’s life but the more they hurt him, the stronger Sanju came out of the crisis.”

Samson’s father lashed out at former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth for his comments after his son slammed ton against Bangladesh. He thrashed the former BCCI selector, saying that Sanju has a classical touch like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. He explained:

“What hurt me bad was comments from [Kris Srikkanth], the player from Tamil Nadu. I don’t know what he has played. To this day, that individual has not spoken a good word of encouragement about my son, but has hurt him a lot with his words.”

“He said – ‘against whom did Sanju score a century? It was only Bangladesh,’. People have been saying he [Srikkanth] was a great player but I haven’t seen it. Century is a century, and that guy has scored only 26 runs against Bangladesh. Sanju has scored a hundred and he is a player with a classical touch like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. At least respect that!”

With one more T20I remaining against the South Africa National Cricket Team, Sanju Samson will be having a great opportunity to make a mark.

Twitter reactions: Sanju Samson smashes multiple records with his explosive century | SA vs IND, 1st T20I

In a scintillating display of power-hitting, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson made history during the first T20I against South Africa in Durban on Friday (November 8). Samson achieved an extraordinary feat, scoring 107 runs off just 50 balls, smashing 10 sixes and 7 fours. He brought up his half-century in just 27 balls and completed his next 50 runs in a mere 20 balls, showing incredible aggression and timing. His sensational knock set the stage for India to post a formidable total of 202/8. Samson’s departure came when he tried to launch a second six off Nqabayomzi Peter, only to be caught by Tristan Stubbs in the deep.

India’s strong foundation with Sanju Samson’s brilliance

Samson’s blistering century was the highlight of India’s innings, but he was ably supported by Tilak Varma (33) and captain Suryakumar Yadav (21), who provided crucial contributions in the middle order. Despite Samson’s departure, India’s powerful start ensured they were in a strong position heading into the latter stages of their innings. Aiden Markram, who won the toss and chose to bowl first, handed a debut to young all-rounder Andile Simelane. However, despite the debutant’s energy, India’s attack proved overwhelming.

Gerald Coetzee shines for South Africa with three wickets

For South Africa, pacer Gerald Coetzee was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 37 runs. His disciplined bowling, combined with smart field placements, helped the Proteas peg India back in the later stages of the innings. While Samson’s fireworks had set a daunting target, Coetzee’s efforts at the death ensured that India could not completely run away with the game. Nevertheless, the foundation laid by Samson and the middle order provided India with enough momentum to challenge South Africa’s batting in the chase.

Samson’s 107-run knock set multiple records, including the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Men’s T20Is against South Africa, surpassing Rohit Sharma‘s previous record of 106 runs set in 2015. Additionally, his knock stands as the highest score by an Indian batter on South African soil in Men’s T20Is, a record that was held by Suryakumar after his 100 runs in December 2023. Samson’s 107 also becomes the fourth-highest score by any batter in Men’s T20Is against South Africa, trailing behind Babar Azam (122), Johnson Charles (118) and Chris Gayle (117).

Samson achieved yet another significant milestone, becoming the joint seventh-fastest Indian to reach 7000 runs in T20s. With his 7000th run coming in his 269th innings, he joined Robin Uthappa in this exclusive club. This achievement further showcases his consistency and longevity in the T20 format, with Samson continuing to build on his impressive career statistics. As one of the fastest Indian batters to reach this landmark, his ability to deliver in the shortest format of the game makes him an integral part of India’s T20 squad.

Samson’s exceptional knock in the first T20I against South Africa has not only propelled India to a commanding total but has also established him as one of the leading T20I batters in world cricket. His record-breaking performances are a testament to his skill, consistency, and ability to rise to the occasion in big matches.
