Shoaib Malik reveals rejecting Mohsin Naqvi’s offer for major role in Pakistan before T20 WC

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Shoaib Malik has made a sensational revelation on rejecting a massive offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) a few months back.

The 42-year-old Malik was one of the longest-serving members of the Pakistan National Cricket Team as he plied trade for the side across three formats from 1999 to 2021.

Overall, Shoaib Malik played 446 international matches for Pakistan and scored 11867 runs at an average of 33.90. With the ball, he bagged 218 international wickets at an average of 38.46, an economy of 4.47, and a strike rate of 51.5.

Looking at the experience Shoaib Malik brings to the table, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently appointed him as the mentor of the Stallions, which is one of the teams participating in the Champions One-Day Cup.

Other than Malik, the PCB has roped in Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Waqar Younis for the role of mentor. The tournament, which will feature the Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves – is set to be played from September 12 to 29 at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

However, according to Shoaib, this isn’t the first time PCB offered him a top job as ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, they approached him to become one of the selectors of the national team.

Speaking at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Shoaib Malik revealed that he rejected PCB’s ‘nonsense’ offer to become a selector. He elaborated:

“I got an offer before the 2024 T20 World Cup. There was no chief selector then and the entire committee had the same power. Yes, I got the offer. However, I am still playing some cricket. How can I select the cricketers with whom I am playing currently? It does not make sense to me that you are playing as well and are part of the selection committee too.”

I think I can still play at the domestic level. That way, I can share my experience in a better way – Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik further said that he still wants to play domestic cricket for Pakistan as that is a better way for him to help the young players. He said:

“I currently play just one format, and I will surely play in the domestic T20 competition. I think I can still play at the domestic level. That way, I can share my experience in a better way with the players.”

Shoaib Malik also made it very clear that he has no intentions to become part of the Pakistan National Cricket Team at the age of 42.

“I have already said that I am not interested in playing for Pakistan. I have already retired from Tests and ODIs. I have no interest in being part of Pakistan’s T20I team. Yes, I will continue playing at the domestic level.

“There are a few places where I still go and play, but I have already communicated to some leagues that I won’t be available. Regarding my retirement, I will leave it all at once.”

Shoaib Malik breaks silence on marriage with Sana Javed and separation from Sania Mirza

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has recently found himself in the midst of a media storm following his third marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed. The news has sparked widespread discussion, particularly due to the circumstances surrounding his separation from Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza.

    The controversy unfolds

Shoaib’s announcement of his marriage to Sana on January 20 sent shockwaves across social media platforms. The absence of an official statement regarding his divorce from Sania added fuel to the fire, leaving fans and media outlets speculating about the situation.

While the couple had not publicly disclosed their separation, Sania ‘s father clarified that his daughter had initiated divorce proceedings with a ‘Khula’ from Shoaib. The revelation further intensified the media scrutiny surrounding Shoaib’s personal life.

    A history of relationships

Shoaib and Sania tied the knot in 2010 after a long period of dating. Their separation, after nearly 14 years of marriage, came as a surprise to many. The lack of clarity regarding their divorce contributed to the public’s interest in Shoaib’s subsequent marriage to Sana.

Several Pakistani reports surfaced suggesting that Sana and Shoaib had been in a relationship for the past three years. Allegations of infidelity against Sana, who was previously married to Umair Jaswal, added another layer of complexity to the situation.

  • ‘Probationary club’: Subbies move on Endeavour Hills

‘Probationary club’: Subbies move on Endeavour Hills

The VSDCA club which welcomed Chris Gayle and a host of ex-Test stars has lost full member status of the historic competition. PAUL AMY reveals why.

Victorian Sub-District club Endeavour Hills has taken another hit, copping a $7500 fine and having its Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association affiliation put on probation.

The Subbies board said the Hills’ actions in the past 18 months “adversely reflected’’ the good name of the competition.

It has changed Endeavour Hills’ status from “full member club’’ to “probationary club’’ for the next two years.

The board will review its performance in 2023-24 and 2024-25 before reassessing its standing.

The club was rarely out of the headlines last season after recruiting a string of international players, including Chris Gayle, to play in two exhibition T20 matches at Dandenong’s Shepley Oval.

But ahead of the matches a player attached to the Hills was charged with criminal offences, with police alleging he stole more than $200,000 to pay for the recruiting spree.

They confirmed the charges — 18 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime — two days before the first exhibition late last November.

It went ahead, with Gayle and Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik arriving at the ground in a black Mercedes to line up alongside fellow Test players Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne against Queensland club team Western Suburbs.

Gayle cracked 95 not out off 65 balls before taking in a set from DJ Havana Brown during the innings break.

    The second game was cancelled.

Dilshan, Karunarate and Thirimanne also played VSDCA home-and-away matches for Endeavour Hills, but none returned after Christmas.

The club had threatened legal action against the Subbies over their player-points assessment of Thirimanne.

They marked him down as a five-pointer, but Endeavour Hills was adamant it should have been four.

An independent Cricket Victoria panel ruled in the club’s favour.

In a June 14 email to clubs marked “confidential’’, VSDCA president Phil O’Meara said the board believed Endeavour Hills “has engaged in conduct prejudicial to the association’’.

He said the fine and the change in its affiliation status “reflect the board’s view of how they consider the actions of Endeavour Cricket Club over the past 18 months have aversely reflected on the good name of the VSDCA across the broader cricket community’’.

O’Meara is overseas and could not be contacted but VSDCA secretary Ken Hilton told CODE Sports: “The penalties reflect how seriously the VSDCA board consider the actions of Endeavour Hills.

“Nobody on the board or across the competition has got any problem with a club trying to improve itself and be more competitive.

“But what we’re asking our 32 clubs is to do it within the framework of the association. I’m not going to go through everything that’s happened – it’s all been documented in various articles – but when you start questioning the integrity of the board and board officials, it’s not the appropriate thing to do, and it had an impact.

“We don’t want to lose Endeavour Hills. They’ve got good facilities and they’ve been a good club since they joined the VSDCA. It’s not the board’s intention to show them the door or anything like that. But the board felt strongly that the good name of the association had been impacted through their actions and various comments that were made.’’

Hilton said he had had no contact with Endeavour Hills but understood the club was disappointed with the sanctions.

Arun Rajendran has stood down as president, with Sagar Aher taking over.

The club has yet to appoint a senior coach.

The Hills, who joined the Sub-District association in 1998-99, have been contacted for comment.

Before joining CODE Paul Amy was a sports reporter and editor for Leader Newspapers. He was also a long-time contributor to Inside Football and is the author of Fabulous Fred, the Strife and Times of Fred Cook.

Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik finally opens up on divorce rumours with Sania Mirza

Shoaib Malik, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has recently addressed the circulating rumours of divorce with his wife, Sania Mirza, who is a former Indian Tennis star. The couple did not spend Eid together, which fuelled the rumours even further.

However, Shoaib has now come forward and given his side of the story. According to him, he did want to spend time with Sania on Eid, but their professional commitments did not allow them to be together.

“Khabre chal rahi hai, taluqat acche nahi hai (Rumours are floating around that all’s not well in the relationship). Nothing on it. On Eid I would like to say that had we been together it would have been great. But she has got commitments in IPL. She is doing shows in IPL. That is why we are not together. We share love like always. I miss her a lot, that I can say,” said Shoaib during his conversation with a Pakistani news channel.

“There are professional commitments. But Eid is a day when you miss the people who are close to you a lot. This is way neither I released a statement nor did she,” he added.

Earlier this year, rumours started circulating about trouble in Sania and Shoaib’s marriage. In addition to that, the cricketer was linked to model-turned-actress Ayesha Omar, and a viral photoshoot of the two only added fuel to the fire. But, Ayesha later addressed the rumours during an appearance on ‘The Shoaib Akhtar Show’ and vehemently denied any linkup with Shoaib. She clarified that she would never be attracted to a married or committed man.
