Throughout the 2024 season of the IPL, KKR have distinguished themselves as a formidable and aggressive team, positioning themselves as strong contenders for a spot in the final. Central to their success has been the dynamic performance of Sunil Narine, who has been instrumental in providing KKR with explosive starts at the top of the order. Narine’s stellar form is evidenced by his impressive tally of over 400 runs, achieved at a staggering strike rate close to 200, setting the stage for KKR’s dominance in the tournament.

Complementing Narine’s fireworks at the crease, his opening partner  Phil Salt has also been in sensational form, accumulating a commendable 429 runs in 11 games. Salt’s consistent contributions with the bat have further bolstered KKR’s batting lineup, adding depth and firepower to their formidable batting arsenal.

With a total of eleven games played so far in the season, KKR boasts an impressive record of eight wins and three losses, firmly establishing their position at the top of the points table with 16 points in their bag. Their remarkable performances have propelled them to the forefront of the competition, with one more victory potentially securing them a spot in the Qualifier stage of the tournament.

    Mumbai Indians (MI) Overview:

In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, MI find themselves grappling with a forgettable campaign, marked by significant challenges and setbacks. With their recent elimination from the playoff race, MI now face the prospect of concluding the season on a disappointing note. One of the primary areas of concern for MI has been their batting lineup, particularly the top-order, which has encountered considerable struggles throughout the tournament.

Key players such as Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have endured prolonged periods of poor form, contributing to MI’s batting woes. Their inability to consistently fire with the bat has significantly impacted MI’s overall performance and undermined their chances of securing favorable results in matches.

Currently positioned at the eighth place in the points table, MI have managed to secure only four wins out of the 12 games they have played so far. This lackluster performance has left MI languishing at the bottom half of the standings.

MI’s probable playing XI for the IPL game against KKR:

    1. Ishan Kishan (wk)
    2. Rohit Sharma
    3. Suryakumar Yadav

    9. Piyush Chawla
    10. Jasprit Bumrah
    11. Nuwan Thushara

    A closer look:

    • Kishan takes the gloves behind the stumps, providing stability and firepower to the batting lineup. Rohit and Suryakumar form a formidable top-order alongside Kishan, capable of setting the tone with explosive starts.
    • Varma adds solidity to the middle order, complemented by the leadership and all-round skills of Hardik. David’s finishing abilities add depth to the batting lineup, while Wadhera offers additional stability in the middle order.
    • In the bowling department, Coetzee, Bumrah and Thushara lead the pace attack with their raw pace and ability to extract bounce. Chawla provides spin options, using his experience and variations to trouble opposition batters. Together, this well-balanced Mumbai squad possesses the firepower to challenge any opposition in the IPL.

‘Bitter pill to swallow’ – Shreyas Iyer disappointed after Kolkata loses to Rajasthan at home

Rajasthan Royals registered an iconic victory against in-form Kolkata Knight Riders in the 31st game of the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League). Both sides locked horns at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, April 16. The clash saw the hosts post a mammoth target of 223 runs on the board.

Aiming to chase down the total, the Royals found themselves in trouble as several of their batters failed to go big. It was the knock of Jos Buttler that helped the Royals win the game. The star batter scored 107* runs in 60 deliveries and helped his side win the game by two wickets.

After the game, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer came forward to talk about how disappointed he was to lose the game and that they had to take it on the chin and focus on their upcoming assignments.

“Bitter pill to swallow, emotions were a roller-coaster. I didn’t think this is the situation we’d get into. It’s a funny game, (Rovman) was striking well. Hard to explain what happened, have to take it on the chin and move on. At this point, you have to see to it that you bowl your best deliveries, a little miss here and there, and you’re sent out of the ground. Glad it happened here and not in the latter half of the tournament,” Iyer was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

Need to introspect and come back stronger: Iyer

Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer heaped praise on Sunil Narine, who hit a magnificent century in the first innings and even took two wickets in the second innings. The skipper called Narine a huge asset to the team.

“Need to introspect and come back stronger. Narine is a great asset to the team, showing it in every game when he comes out to bat. That kind of character, glad he’s part of our team,” Iyer said.

He also explained his decision to let Varun Chakravarthy bowl the final over of the clash, the over in which Buttler finished the game.

“Since Buttler was striking it clean, I thought let’s take the pace off and give it to Varun Chakravarthy. He was clean in his hitting as well. Just let it go, sink in, it’s all about relaxing, rejuvenating. We had a tough game, within 2-3 days, important we learn from our mistakes and bounce back strong,” Iyer said.

    M.Chinnaswamy Stadium Pitch Report:

Chinnaswamy Stadium provides an ideal setting for batters, with both pacers and spinners hoping for favourable conditions. However, the shorter boundaries present an intriguing challenge, adding complexity for bowlers. As a result, the match is anticipated to feature a high-scoring contest, with the toss-winning captain likely to choose fielding. Given the flat nature of the pitch and the close boundaries, chasing becomes a preferred strategy in this scenario.

Atmospheric conditions are predicted to maintain a humidity level of 60%, also a mild breeze is anticipated to blow at a moderate pace of 11 kilometres per hour. • KKR Breaking News: Shreyas Iyer Declared Fit To Play In IPL 2024 But His Participation Comes With A Twist – ICC Cricket Schedule

KKR Breaking News: Shreyas Iyer Declared Fit To Play In IPL 2024 But His Participation Comes With A Twist – ICC Cricket Schedule

KKR Breaking News: The Indian Cricket Team’s middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, has been given clearance to feature in the upcoming season of the IPL after he faced discomfort in his back during the recently concluded Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. The KKR skipper missed out on a well-deserved ton in the second innings of the Ranji Trophy Final, but he didn’t come out to field on the final two days of the match. The 29-year-old joined the KKR camp on March 16 and even participated in an intra-squad match on Sunday.

According to a news report from the Indian Express, Iyer met a spine specialist doctor in Mumbai, and then he went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, where the NCA doctors gave him clearance to play. However, the spine specialist advised him that he needs to be careful when he stretches his leg while defending the ball.

“He (Shreyas Iyer) is fit enough to play. He consulted a spine specialist doctor in Mumbai, and he advised him not to stretch his leg too much while defending the ball. He has joined the KKR camp, and he is fit enough to participate in the matches of IPL 2024,” a BCCI said to Indian Express.

Shreyas Iyer has been facing a lot of issues with his back, and his back issues have forced him to miss important matches. His back issues started last year during the Border Gavaskar Trophy matches against Australia. He then underwent back surgery, which forced him to miss the entire IPL in 2023.

He made a comeback to international cricket during last year’s Asia Cup 2023 and found his form and rhythm just before the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Iyer scored 530 runs, and the Men in Blue finished as the runner-up.

Post-World Cup, Iyer performed really well in the five match T20i series against Australia and in the white ball games on the tour of South Africa, but he then faced some discomfort once again during the England Test series. He was ruled out of the Indian squad after the second test match in Vizag.

After getting dropped from the Indian Cricket Team’s test squad, the BCCI instructed the 29 year old to play in the quarterfinal matches of the Ranji Trophy, but the Mumbai batter didn’t follow the instructions of the BCCI and complained of issues with his back despite receiving a full fitness clearance from the NCA. He had to face the consequences of denying the instructions of BCCi as he was removed from the list of annually contracted players.

Shreyas then corrected his mistake as he rejoined Mumbai’s squad for the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy and even participated in the final. However, apart from his knock of 95 runs in the final against Vidarbha, he struggled a lot against the seamers in the domestic tournament. The fast bowlers constantly got the better of him by bowling short-pitched deliveries, which is a major weakness of Shreyas Iyer.

The KKR skipper missed the entire IPL 2023 due to his back issues, and once again, his back issues have created doubts regarding his participation in the upcoming season of the IPL. But the fitness clearance from the doctors and the NCA comes as a huge relief for Iyer and KKR.

  • Why BCCI released Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer but retained Hardik Pandya in central contracts list?

Why BCCI released Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer but retained Hardik Pandya in central contracts list?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cracked the whip on Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan on February 28 as both the players were not awarded a central contract for the 2023-24 season.

The BCCI had a very clear stance for a few weeks that they wanted the centrally conteacted to not put the Indian Premier League (IPL) above domestic cricket, specifically the Ranji Trophy, the premier domestic competition. However, Kishan and Iyer continued to miss the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy against the BCCI’s directive.

Kishan and Iyer’s snubbing has led to concerns on why did the board decided to retain Hardik Pandya in the contract list. It is understood that the star all-rounder has informed the BCCI since long that his body is not capable of enduring the demands of red-ball cricket, and thus he was not dropped.

Notably, Pandya has not actually participated in a first-class match since playing for Baroda against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy Group A match in 2018. It is crucial to remember that the all-rounder faced a back issue in the Southampton Test against England, which remains his last match for India in the longest format.

For the unreversed, Pandya’s terrible back problem began after he collapsed onto the ground during the 2018 Asia Cup after bowling a delivery. He was stretchered off the field and finally had surgery in September 2020, necessitating a one-year hiatus. He made a successful return in the 2022 Indian Premier League, guiding the Gujarat Titans to victory in their inaugural season.

His return to form as a batter and bowler even brought him a promotion, as he assumed leadership of India’s T20I side when Rohit Sharma was preparing for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Hardik, who frequently plays for India in ODIs and T20Is, cannot play Tests as his body cannot handle it. Notably, he mentioned the same last year at a press conference.

IND vs ENG [WATCH]: Shreyas Iyer grabs a stunner to help India get rid of Zak Crawley

The second Test between India and England in Vizag witnessed a thrilling moment on Day 2 when Shreyas Iyer took a breathtaking catch to dismiss the well-set Zak Crawley. This pivotal moment not only showcased Iyer’s exceptional fielding skills but also turned the momentum in India’s favour, providing a crucial breakthrough at a crucial juncture in the game.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s heroics and tailenders’ struggle

The day began with India resuming their innings at 336/6, and Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive form, eventually reaching his maiden double century. The remarkable achievement made him the third youngest Indian to achieve this feat in Test cricket. However, after Jaiswal’s dismissal at 209, the Indian tailenders struggled to contribute significantly, leading to India being bundled out for 296.

The English bowlers, led by James Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir, put up an impressive performance, each claiming three wickets, restricting India to a relatively modest total.

    England’s strong start

In response to India’s total, England started confidently, with openers Crawley and Ben Duckett forging a 59-run partnership. Despite Duckett’s dismissal, Crawley continued his aggressive approach, posing a significant threat to India’s chances.
