‘Road is running out’ – Simon Jordan delivers warning to Daniel Levy

Daniel Levy has been told by Simon Jordan a perceived lack of ambition is causing Tottenham fans to turn against him.

The Spurs chairman has been in the role since 2001 but has faced growing calls to step down by supporters in recent years, including this season.

Fan opposition to the 63-year-old comes as their wait for silverware shows little sign of ending while their position of 14th in the Premier League table has made the league season something of a write-off.

Ange Postecoglou’s side can only win the Europa League this term to avoid extending their 17-year trophy drought.

Supporters have also called for more transfers to match their trophy ambitions across the Premier League and European competition.

However, Levy issued a response on Monday as he explained that the club must ‘make smart purchases’ and be ‘sustainable’ with their spending.

Jordan has now warned that the stance he’s taken could mean Levy’s ‘road is running out’.

The talkSPORT co-host revealed his stance in response to a fan call discussing the club’s pledge about their new stadium.

Spurs had earmarked the move to their 62,850-capacity arena in 2019 as a way of becoming more competitive in the hunt for trophies.

Speaking on White & Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman explained: “The bottom line is football fans expect ambition from their club, they expect aspiration.

“If Spurs and Daniel Levy aren’t delivering it because his pursuit of sustainability and the model that he wants to work to isn’t going to give them the outcomes that they want, then they have the right to say it.

“I personally think with Daniel that his road is running out in terms of the opportunities he has to defend his position.”

Jordan revealed how fans will continue to turn on Levy if their level of ambition is not matched

Jordan continued: “I defend Daniel against one-sided arguments because I’ve been an owner on the other side of the equation and I can’t help defend owners to some extent because I know what the other side of the conversation is.

“But I also suggest that Tottenham Hotspur cannot go around not achieving things.

“Of course we’ve had COVIS since the stadium was built and the opportunities of revenues.

“There were hundreds of millions of pounds lost to football clubs during that period of time that is now being caught up with and Daniel will run that particular argument.

“And he’ll run the argument about covenants and the amount of money they’ve got available to themselves but fans are not interested in that.

“If they’ve been told that the building of a stadium is going to make them more competitive with the opposition and then the argument being run is that they can’t meet the opposition because they’ve got to service debt then you can’t have it both ways.”

Simon Jordan claps back at Daniel Levy slander and claims Tottenham ‘are the most well-run club’

As well as the new stadium, Levy oversaw Spurs’ move to a state-of-the-art new training ground in 2012.

However, the north London side have not lifted any silverware since winning the League Cup in 2008.

Tottenham also look set to miss out on a place in the Champions League for the third season in a row.

Their only realistic route into the competition is by winning the Europa League as they’re 15 points adrift of the top four.

Spurs face Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals next week for a spot in the last four of the Europa League.

‘Influential people’ – Simon Jordan approached for talks with Chelsea ownership

talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has revealed his ‘maudlin interest’ in talks with the Chelsea ownership.

A consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital bought the Blues for £4.25billion in 2022.

Club chairman Boehly shares an equal split of 38.5 per cent ownership with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter, whilst Clearlake owns the rest.

Behdad Eghbali, a co-founder of the United States-based firm, is said to have been running the day-to-day operations at Chelsea.

talkSPORT reported in September that tensions between him and Boehly have become increasingly strained over how the club is run.

Both parties have considered buying each other out, though former Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes Clearlake would win the battle.

However, during his evaluation of the situation at Stamford Bridge, he also mentioned the ‘opportunities’ he has been offered with the club’s hierarchy.

“If they fall out to such a point, he’ll lose, because Clearlake and Eghbali have got more money than him, and that will find its way to the surface,” he said on White and Jordan.

“But whether they have diverging agendas or converging agendas, there’s always going to be differences of opinion. It’s not about having differences of opinion.

“It’s about how you react to them, it’s if you become entranced in ideologies or the principle of who is at the front of the queue. I don’t know the personalities.

“I spent a bit of time with Todd, I don’t know Eghbali, various people I know that are representing Chelsea are working with them and there’s opportunities for me to perhaps go and watch Chelsea games and get myself involved in that sort of framework if I wanted to, in terms of having discussions with these sort of guys.

“But I’ve always believed that the Chelsea project is a very interesting one, it’s a very different one.

It appears as though Boehly and Eghbali have been at loggerheads

“All the criticism that’s been laid at the door of Boehly about the decisions that he’s made, have been made by people that don’t have the understanding of what great wealth does.

“It has a time to build things, and we live in a micromanaged world where the next game counts, if you lose the next game, you’re a disaster. He’s not worried about that.”

Host Jim White said: “With all due respect Simon, you had wealth, and still have. This lot, a different stratosphere.”

But Jordan replied: “I’m a waiter by comparison economically, even at my pomp, even at my height.

“These guys have huge amounts of capital available, not just private wealth of their own, but access to capital which is as important as having capital of your own wealth.”

White then asked: “Would you get involved with them?”

“Not involved with them commercially, involved with them to have discussions,” Jordan replied.

“Because they like some of the things that have been written, they pay attention to some of the things that I’ve said about them. That doesn’t give me any cachet or kudos, it’s just an observation.”

“Would you be motivated to have a chat with these guys?” White questioned his talkSPORT colleague.

After a slight hesitation, Jordan responded: “Yes and no, just out of maudlin interest.

“In the same way that I was motivated to sit talking to Boehly in Qatar, because these guys are influential people.

“Chelsea’s a… Whilst I consider it to be a manufactured football club, much to the irritation of Chelsea fans, is a big football club now, in terms of the scale that Roman Abramovich gave it, so it’s interesting.”

Todd Boehly responds to question on Chelsea fans unrest and proposes Premier League rule change

Since the takeover three years ago, Chelsea’s fluctuant results have been a long-term talking point amid huge transfer expenditure.

They are yet to win a major trophy under the ownership, but an off-pitch development could begin to dominated the Blues’ headlines.

Stamford Bridge has been the club’s home since they were founded in 1905 but currently has a capacity of around 41,000.

This falls way below all of their ‘Big Six’ rivals, so it’s no surprise there has been long-term talks over further redevelopment or relocation.

A site at Earl’s Court just a stone’s throw away from Stamford Bridge has been eyed as a potential new location should Chelsea leave.

And Boehly has hinted that moving to a new stadium might be more likely as he told Bloomberg: “Inside of London it’s really complex.

“It’s not like we are building something in a rural environment. We have a lot of constituents to make sure we care about.

“Certainly the Chelsea fan base is one of them. Long term, I think we’re going to build something new, and I think we’ll figure it out.”

  • Simon Jordan claps back at Carragher for Cole Palmer Chelsea contract comment

Simon Jordan claps back at Carragher for Cole Palmer Chelsea contract comment

Jamie Carragher is just ‘making noise’ in regards to his comments on Cole Palmer and his long-term contract at Chelsea.

That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan, who suggests there would have been some thought involved with such a lengthy deal.

    4

Palmer has a contract at Chelsea that runs until 2033Credit: Getty

Palmer has eight years remaining on his contract at Chelsea following his £42.5million move from Manchester City in 2023.

He has become one of the best talents in the Premier League with 60 goal contributions in 78 appearances across all competitions.

However, Carragher has raised concerns over potential frustration from Palmer with his teammates at Chelsea amid their poor form.

Carragher likened the situation to his fellow Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on The Overlap Fan Debate when he said: “He was so much better than everybody else, it was like he was frustrated.”

He also criticised the length of Palmer’s contract and how difficult it would be for him to leave, potentially for a Champions League club.

But talkSPORT’s Jordan has dismissed Carragher observations, with the former Crystal Palace owner insisting players ‘are not stupid’.

When addressing how Palmer could have a problem leaving Chelsea on White and Jordan, he said: “Don’t sign the contract in the first place.

“I’m sure there’s plenty of people around Cole Palmer that would’ve been able to give him the right advice, given the fact that he had already signed a relatively long-term contract with Chelsea, and all they’ve done is extend it by a few more years.”

“So is he being critical of Palmer’s people for signing it?” asked Jim White, and Jordan said: “I think Jamie’s making noise for noise sake.

“Ultimately, players want to sign long-term contracts that are predominantly based upon, perhaps preserving some value for the club.

But Jordan believes he is just 'making noise'

“There may well be a whole raft of things [such as a clause], but I think it’s just noise.

“Players are not stupid, and my word, certainly the people around them that see the opportunity as a result of their careers.

“Agents aren’t going to be encouraging Cole Palmer to sign long-term contracts with Chelsea, because agents are going to make their money by moving him somewhere else.

“So the fact he’s got an agent and he’s signed a long-term contract might give you some indication that people have thought about this moderately carefully.

“Most people would’ve said, ‘Why did you leave Man City?’ He’s landed at Chelsea. The question was, has he outgrown Chelsea? Well no, he can’t have done because he’s signed a long-term contract.”

“They meant outgrown as in his capabilities, his levels,” Danny Murphy said, but Jordan replied: “Well it depends where you think he can play, and which club would want to buy him.”

Palmer has found it tough of late but is still one of the best players in the league

    4

“He could play anywhere, play [for] any team in the world,” insisted Murphy in response.

Palmer signed a seven-year contract with the option of a further 12 months when he first joined Chelsea from City.

After an incredible debut season in which he 25 goals and assisted 15 others, he signed a two-year extension at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

The 22-year-old is therefore a long-term asset for Chelsea and any clubs interested in a transfer would likely have to pay huge money.

Palmer is the Blues’ joint-top goalscorer with Christopher Nkunku on 14 goals this season but has struggled throughout 2025.

He hasn’t scored since Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in January, with no goals or assists coming in his last ten appearances.

Martin Keown reacts to Cole Palmer’s poor form and believes it is down to key Chelsea star being out injured

The attacking midfielder missed the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday with a muscle injury and his withdrawn from the England squad.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League and in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League, where they will face Legia Warsaw.

  • ‘Would make sense’ – Finance expert names likely date for Man City punishment

‘Would make sense’ – Finance expert names likely date for Man City punishment

Manchester City’s judgment day might be just around the corner, according to football finance expert Stefan Borson.

Borson joined Simon Jordan and Jim White on Wednesday morning, as the footballing community holds its breath in anticipation of the verdict for the Citizens.

    2

Borson believes we could soon see a decision on Man City’s charges

The charges involve breaching financial fair play rules over a staggering nine-year span, from 2009 to 2018.

Additionally, they face accusations of failing to cooperate with Premier League investigations into their financial practices.

White posed a crucial question to Borson about the likelihood of receiving a verdict in the coming weeks.

He said: “It would make a lot of sense, wouldn’t it? In court, you’d say that’s completely irrelevant because the judges don’t care about whether it’s convenient commercially for the parties.

“But remember, this is a commercial arbitration of sorts, and therefore they may well be inclined to fit within the two parties’ preferences. You would think their preferences would be this week or next week, during the international break. That would make sense.

“There are a few indicators that it’s not imminent. Our friend Lord Pannick was not busily reading a draft decision that had been presented to him last night; he was in the House of Lords looking very pleased with himself, talking about expensive lawyers in the debates about the independent football regulator.

“So he was not in Chambers reading any decision that has been provided to him in advance of release. As you say, it would make sense for it to be in the next few days, but it’s equally not certain.”

“I hope you don’t mind me quoting what you just said during the commercial break, Stefan,” White interjected.

“You said, whatever happens when it drops, there’s going to be chaos. What do you mean?”

Borson added: “It’s very likely to be an extensive document, possibly hundreds of pages long, with an executive summary right at the front.

City's charges involve breaching financial fair play rules over a nine-year period

    2

“There are going to be a lot of nuances, a lot of revelations. If it’s everything that we’ve expected about the number of charges that have been presented, it’s possible that a lot of that stuff dropped off.

“Even if the outcome is simple, even in the best-case scenario for Man City, where most of it is dismissed, let’s say only cooperation is found against them, there will still be things in there that people will want to spin a certain way, their enemies around the table, shall we say. They will still want to make certain suggestions about why the Premier League case didn’t succeed.

“On the other side, of course, if the worst comes to the worst for City, then there’s going to be some unbelievable stuff in there. It will likely be forced to say that a lot of people have been very naughty and have lied significantly and on multiple occasions to multiple parties over many years.

“Either way, it’s going to explode upon release, and how are people going to process a document like this? In terms of a decision and judgment, this might be one of the most scrutinized judgments in the history of the world. Because people don’t usually read decisions outside of legal analysis, but most of the world is interested in football, so it’s going to be interesting to take a look at.

White further inquired about Sky Sports reportedly advising their pundits to refrain from hasty judgments and to focus on the facts when the decision arrives.

“The problem that Sky has, of course, is if it goes against City, then the big question is not just for the Premier League but also for Sky: what do we make of the last decade of Premier League football?” Borson explained.

    Manchester City’s 115 charges

    • Failure to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information (2009-2018) – 54
    • Failure to provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation (2009-2018) – 14
    • Failure to comply with UEFA’s regulations, including Financial Fair Play Regulations – 5
    • Breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability regulations (2015-2018) – 7
    • Failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations (2018-2023) – 35

“That will be a big issue for Sky, and that’s why I think they will be even more concerned about the way this is presented compared to some other outlets. They have a big stake in this game; that’s why this is a very dangerous case for the Premier League and its partners. If it goes against City, then clearly there are big question marks over all of the ownership since 2009.”

When the Premier League charged City in 2023, the press release highlighted alleged breaches totaling 115, though it’s believed the actual figure has risen to 130.

During this time, Man City—a club that has firmly denied all allegations—has celebrated three Premier League titles.

The Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations exist to ensure clubs spend only what they earn.

However, it’s possible to navigate around these rules, potentially by inflating reported earnings or concealing expenses.

Manchester City star Abdukodir Khusanov gifted £135k luxury item immediately after arriving for international duty for Uzbekistan

Within the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and FFP context, artificially boosting revenue could, in theory, permit a club to invest more in transfers and wages.

According to the Premier League, Man City is accused of violating these rules across nine seasons by allegedly failing to provide accurate financial information.

Among the charges against the club is the claim that they did not fully disclose the financial compensation awarded to one of their managers over a four-year period.

While Stefan Borson suggests a decision could be imminent, the footballing world will have to remain patient for the final verdict on Manchester City.

Stuart Pearce gives health update to talkSPORT after scare on Las Vegas flight

Stuart Pearce insisted he feels ‘absolutely brilliant’ after speaking for the first time on talkSPORT since a health scare.

England legend and popular talkSPORT pundit Pearce fell ill last Monday during a flight from Las Vegas to London Heathrow.

Pearce was in good spirits as he gave talkSPORT an updateCredit: talkSPORT

He was given treatment by Virgin Atlantic staff and the flight was diverted to St John’s in Canada.

Pearce has been recovering in hospital after watching his beloved Warrington Wolves play Wigan Warriors in Vegas.

And appearing on White and Jordan on Tuesday, he was in good spirits and even able to poke fun at Arsenal legend Martin Keown.

He said: “Absolutely brilliant, I went to meet my maker last week and it wasn’t God, it was actually Lord Jordan sitting in his seat that I actually had to meet, but he said, ‘Your time is not up big fella,’ and he sent me away.

“So in all seriousness, I’m in good form, on the flight I had chest pains and stuff like that, the crew on Virgin were brilliant, they took care of me fantastically and then said, ‘Look, we’re not going to take the chance travelling across the Atlantic, we’re going to drop you off’.

“So we’re down in St John’s Newfoundland, and have been here for ten days now I think, five days in hospital and just a few days out of hospital.

“The only downside is our bags went on to London and the only thing that we were left with was actually Martin Keown’s autobiography.

“You know when things can’t get any worse, you’re stuck with Keown’s autobiography for the duration.”

Speaking further on what happened, Pearce explained: “Yeah just my chest felt a little bit… Basically my heart rate was racing.

“So my resting heart rate from the time I was monitored on the aeroplane and for the few days in hospital, my resting heart rate was anything above 155 beats per minute.

It was great to see Pearce in joyful mood despite what happened

“So it was ridiculous really, also my heart wasn’t pumping enough blood around the system by all accounts and some swelling, so they give me medication for the first few days just to get that down.

“At the end of the week on Friday, they said, ‘Look, we’re going to stick a tube down your throat, if there’s no swelling around your heart, we’ll stop your heart and reboot you again’.

“So that’s exactly what they did on Friday, my heart went back to a normal rate and they released me the following day.

“As luck happens, there was a pick-up truck that was outside my hospital bed window and I used the jump leads to reboot myself on the Friday!”

He added: “I just got a virus, I had a virus that just sort of attached itself to my heart that just needed clearing, rebooting and going through the process I think.

“So from what we gather, when I get home I obviously will have some medical checks there and go and see my GP and one or two other things I’m sure.

He was given a huge amount of support from Forest and City fans on Saturday

“But I feel brilliant in myself and have done since mid-last week to be honest with you, but I’m in really good hands.

“The people in the hospital have been magnificent, the people in Canada are fantastic as well and Carol, listen she looks after me on a daily basis anyway. So I’m really good, and from my point of view, fantastic.”

It was initially understood that there were medically-trained passengers on the flight that helped, but Pearce said: “No, that isn’t the case. I told Carol a few hours into the flight that I’ve got the odd chest pain here, you better give the crew a shout.

“She went and told the crew and it was the crew that were the helpful ones, they were the ones that really impressed me, how well trained they were on this Virgin flight.

“They didn’t have a doctor on board so what they done is they wired me up to a cardiogram, give me some oxygen, done my pulse, blood pressure, all of those things.

“They were monitoring me up in the air, and then wiring the results down to a doctor on the ground and that doctor was the one giving them guidance in the air. So it was the crew, not passengers.”

Nottingham Forest and Manchester City fans joined in for a minute’s applause for Pearce during their Premier League clash on Saturday.

Both sets of supporters were heard chanting ‘Psycho’ in honour of the former defender who played for both clubs during his career.

‘Get well soon Stuart’ read a large message on the big screen at the City Ground whilst other banners of support appeared in the crowd.

Pearce added: “I can’t speak highly enough I’ve got to say, we’ve had people looking after us, Carol’s been brilliant looking after us, I’ve been fortunate enough to watch a few games.

“The Forest game against Man City was very, very humbling, I saw that and the bits and pieces that come out from that and thank you for your two messages and everybody else that sent messages of support, it is very, very humbling.”

When asked about when he’ll be back, Pearce said: “The insurers are just looking to organise flights at the moment. I need a medical chaperone, so I’ve been told, to come with us, so they’re just organising that. So over the next day or so, hopefully.”

Pearce kickstarted his career at non-league side Wealdstone before a move to the top flight of English football with Coventry City in 1983.

Just two years later, he signed for Forest under the legendary Brian Clough and made 522 appearances over 12 years.

He won two League Cups and two Full Members’ Cups, and was named as the club’s Player of the Season on three occasions.

Pearce left Forest in 1997 ahead of spells at West Ham, Newcastle United and City.

His international career is also highly regarded as he earned 78 caps with the England national team.

The defender played at three major tournaments and even scored a penalty in the quarter-final shootout win over Spain at Euro 1996.

Simon Jordan hits back at Roy Keane questions over Arsenal mentality

Simon Jordan picked apart Roy Keane for questioning Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s mentality after their 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Liverpool now lead the Premier League by 15 points, closing in on confirming a spectacular maiden season for Arne Slot in England.

Many favoured Arsenal and Manchester City to challenge for the title again but both have been lacklustre throughout the campaign.

Instead, Liverpool rose to the occasion despite the squad being under new management of Slot following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Arsenal fans are already looking forward to the transfer market and next season in hope of their first title since 2004.

After the match Keane critiqued Arteta, he said: “What makes you think the manager can do it?

“They’ve gotten close over the last few years but City will be strong next year and I’m sure Liverpool will be too.”

“Where’s the evidence to think they can do it? Getting a striker in would help. Have they got the right mentality? Has the manager?

“It’s alright challenging but it should be about winning titles.”

Despite being ‘happy to have a pop at Arteta’ Jordan came to the defence of the Spanish manager.

He said: “Sometimes I don’t agree with the stuff he [Arteta] comes up with but notwithstanding that he is always on the front foot.

“I’m not entirely sure what Roy’s point is. Is there any evidence Man City will automatically bounce back?

“I don’t agree with Roy. What point is he suggesting, that Arteta doesn’t have a winning mentality because I think he does?

“He’s galvanised the place. He’s turned it from a place of relatively disenfranchised and now you’ve got fans that are absolutely engaged with their team, a fully committed squad of players.

“He just needs to move a few parts about and one of them might be a centre forward.”

Arteta has increasingly come under pressure as it will most likely become another season Arsenal has failed to lift silverware since their FA Cup triumph in 2020.

Last campaign Arsenal were on fire only losing one of their last 18 matches but concluded the race two points behind winners Man City.

This season has been much worse as the Gunners look rigid and lacking creativity in attack.

Arteta quickly exited his Man United post match interview when asked about the title race showing his annoyance and possible apathy towards the end of this season.

Some fans are beginning to turn on Arteta as shown by the many rants on social media platforms X and YouTube.

Their frustrations mainly derive from Arsenal’s lack of forward signings.

The protest was aimed at current owners BlueCo and Todd Boehly, who bought the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022.

Of the banners on display, one read: “BlueCo stop killing Chelsea. Get out of our club.”

Meanwhile, another said: “You’re destroying our club.”

Fans also chanted: “We want our Chelsea back,” as well as Abramovich’s name.

However, Jordan was very vocal in his criticism of the fans on Wednesday morning.

Speaking on White & Jordan, the talkSPORT co-host labelled the protestors a ‘clown college’.

He then went on to add: “They weren’t a big club in any significance until Abramovich’s money turned them into something very meaningful.

“And so they’re going to hold on to the fact that Roman Abramovich was a martyr that gave them so much money and didn’t ask for anything in return.

“And now you’ve got a different ownership that took you away from an existential threat and because it’s not manifesting itself the way you’re entitled to, you’re going to protest against the owners.

“I agree with the principle of fans having the right to air their views and having the right to complain about things.

“But when you start to elevate that to organise protests against an ownership model of a football club that’s been there for two years, undoubtedly made lots of mistakes.

“People that run businesses that go into football make mistakes. They always do because you’ve got to learn the language of the industry.”

The former Crystal Palace chairman continued: “There was a thread sent to me by a Chelsea fan that was correcting the Chelsea fan that came on here that was babbling about them being in £140 million in debt.

“Babbling about them being £140million in debt. There’s a £140million liability to the ownership model, who don’t charge any interest on it and are not calling it in.

“And so we sliced and diced him because he made a fool of himself. The fact is they say their argument isn’t backed, it’s a listing of things and they’ve got lots of resonance in it.

“They have come in there, they have made decisions that aren’t great, they have put sporting directors in that haven’t done a particularly good job, they have bought players over inflated values, they have bought a manager in from Chelsea that wasn’t successful.”

Since Boehly’s arrival at the club, Chelsea have spent over £1billion on players and sacked three separate managers.

Meanwhile, the Blues finished 12th and sixth in the previous two seasons.

Enzo Maresca’s side are currently on course to finish even higher this season, though.

Their 4-0 win over the Saints on Tuesday has lifted Chelsea back up to fourth in the table with 11 matches remaining.

Chilwell joins Palace on loan – and Simon Jordan believes deal may impact Guehi

Ben Chilwell has ended his Chelsea nightmare under Enzo Maresca by joining Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old hasn’t featured in the Premier League since April 2024, with his only appearance this term coming in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup win over Barrow in September.

talkSPORT revealed over the weekend how the Eagles had offered the England international a career lifeline before the window slams shut on Monday night.

And now Oliver Glasner’s side have confirmed the transfer, with Chilwell making the switch from west to south London.

It is understood that the Blues will be paying 50 per cent of the left-back’s £200,000-a-week wages during his stay at Selhurst Park.

Chilwell will now compete with fellow Three Lions star Tyrick Mitchell for a spot in Palace‘s staring XI.

On completing the move, Chilwell said: “I’m very excited to be here. Crystal Palace are a club that’s going in a great direction.

“You look at the last few months, with the results and how the team’s playing, and it was a no-brainer to make the decision to come here.”

It remains to be seen who will be Glasner’s first-choice with Mitchell starting in each of the club’s 24 top-flight matches this campaign.

While Palace have made a deadline day signing in Chilwell, they could have lost a key player in centre-back Marc Guehi.

talKSPORT understands that Tottenham had a £70million offer knocked back by Palace, who has 18 months left on his contract.

Guehi was also the subject of multiple failed bids from Newcastle last summer.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move to bring the 24-year-old back to Stamford Bridge having sold him to Palace for around £18m in 2021.

It would see him reunited with Trevoh Chalobah, who he forged a formidable partnership with in the first half of the season before Chelsea recalled the Cobham graduate.

And former Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Palace’s acquisition of Chilwell could play a role in Chelsea once again securing Guehi’s services.

The talkSPORT co-host said on Monday: “It’s an interesting dynamic.

“People were suggesting that Palace and Chelsea would not have a great relationship after they recalled Chalobah.

“Here you have Chilwell being thrown into the mix.

“It may lead to a situation where you have Guehi going to Chelsea in the summer because Chelsea are doing Palace a favour.”

Guehi came through Chelsea’s Cobham academy but made just two appearances for the club, none of them in the Premier League.

He enjoyed a loan spell at Championship club Swansea during the 2020/21 season before completing an £18m move to Palace in the summer of 2021.

Fine performances for Palace saw him receive his first senior England call-up in March 2022.

Although he wasn’t selected for the Three Lions squad at the 2022 World Cup, Guehi made the cut for England’s Euro 2024 squad and was commended for his performance throughout the tournament, which saw England lose in the final.

Simon Jordan slams Mikel Arteta’s ‘double standards’ after referee U-turn

Simon Jordan has slammed comments made by Mikel Arteta in his latest Arsenal press conference.

The talkSPORT co-host did not hold back as he responded to the Arsenal boss’ reaction to the abuse received by referee Michael Oliver.

After sending off Myles Lewis-Skelly during the Gunners’ win over Wolves on Saturday, Oliver has been subjected to threats and abuse on social media.

Meanwhile, Lewis-Skelly’s red card has since been overturned by the FA on appeal.

Arteta was asked about the abuse as he spoke to reporters on Tuesday and condemned the threats made towards Oliver.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Girona, he explained: “[It] leaves a bad taste and makes people’s lives more difficult. Let’s get it out, let’s kick it out.”

Asked if it was a message to Arsenal fans, Arteta added: “It’s for everyone in football, it should not be permitted.

“We don’t want it, we don’t need it and it certainly damages our sport. Let’s get it out.”

The Spaniard continued: “We have put in laws, measures and regulations for that kind of thing [abuse] but we haven’t done it [on social media].

“We are all talking about it, but no-one seems to be moving strongly enough and bringing people with them to get that out of the game, because it’s just unacceptable.”

However, his comments have been labelled as ‘hypocrisy’ by Jordan.

The former Crystal Palace chairman told White & Jordan: “This is a manager that a year ago, started the conversation because he didn’t like a decision at Newcastle by saying ‘these are the worst referees in Europe, these are the worst standards’.

“And you start that level of hysteria and then you’ve got the ridiculous end of the fringe, the extreme idiots, you know, the ones that go onto social media and start threatening people that pick up that thread.

“I don’t excuse their behaviour but if you’ve got senior managers coming out and saying these sort of statements, which by the way ain’t true, because then we’ve got a litany of European decisions that proved that the European referees were just as bad if not worse.

“So there was an element of hypocrisy about this wonderful new double standard of how he’s now got his way because Arsenal have had it overturned.”

Arteta labelled the decision to award a goal to Newcastle a ‘disgrace’ after his side’s loss at St. James’ Park in November 2023.

Meanwhile, Jordan added: “There is an element of double standards and hypocrisy about someone who says the things when it suits them and now plays the card of ‘I’m the reasonable person in the room’.

“These managers, these pundits, that go on television and scream and shout about referees and take them to the lowest common denominator are now the ones that potentially stand there saying, well you know.”

Simon Jordan gives theory why Heung-min Son looks ‘like a bit-part player’

Heung-min Son has been ‘a mile off’ his usual form on the pitch for Tottenham amid a decline in form.

That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan, who revealed rumours the South Korean star underwent surgery and it may have affected his fitness.

    4

Son has become one of Spurs’ most iconic players since completing a reported £22million move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

The winger has scored 169 goals in 431 appearances for the north London outfit to become one of the first names in their starting XI.

He even won the Premier League Golden Boot alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah at the end of the 2021/22 campaign with 23 goals.

Spurs announced on Tuesday that his contract has been extended to 2026, despite his form this season arguably being underwhelming.

Jordan has recently asked questions of the forward and now offered an explanation as to why his past quality has seemingly dipped.

“Well I wonder if he’s fit,” he said on White and Jordan for talkSPORT.

“I mean, I’ve understood through various channels, not Daniel [Levy, chairman] by the way, that he’s had surgery last year.

“So some of things that I was looking at in a couple games that I’ve been to watch Spurs this season and I’m thinking, ‘He’s a mile off.

“‘He doesn’t look like the same player that’s captured all the attention, at one point last season was the leader replacing Harry Kane. He looks like a bit part.’

“It might be because he’s not 100 per cent fit, so I was questioning the idea of whether Son had run his course, and whether it was time for Tottenham to change up. Evidently not.”

Son has scored five goals and assisted six others in 17 Premier League outings this season but hasn’t contributed in his past four.

Previous campaigns, including the last one, have seen him double these numbers by this stage of Spurs’ schedule.

However, he remains integral to the team, especially when Spurs have been dealt various injury issues across all areas of the pitch.

Ange Postecoglou named him on the bench for their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, although substituted him on 62 minutes.

The 32-year-old suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign but has remained relatively fit ever since.

Spurs will hope Son can further add to his goal tally this season when they face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
