SRH vs RR Match Preview- IPL 2025, Match 2

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will host Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the second game of IPL 2025. The game is scheduled for Sunday (March 23) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

SRH had a brilliant campaign last season. The Hyderabad-based outfit displayed an attacking brand of cricket and just blew teams away. They have managed to retain the same core for this season as well and will look to go all the way.

SRH qualified for the final last year but could not win the title decider against Kolkata Knight Riders. They will be keen to win the tournament this season and lay their hands on the trophy for the second time and first time since 2016.

On the other hand, RR’s journey in IPL 2024 ended with a defeat against SRH in the second qualifier. RR were the most consistent team in the first half of the season last year before losing their way towards the end. They will look to start the season on a strong note once again. So, as SRH and RR gear up for the game, here is the SRH vs RR match preview.

SRH vs RR Match Preview- IPL 2025, Match 2:

SRH vs RR, Date and Venue:

The upcoming SRH vs RR match will be played on Sunday (March 23) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The match is scheduled to be played from 03:30 PM IST.

    Squads:

    Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Pat Cummins (c), Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klassen, Nitish Reddy, Ishan Kishan, Mohammad Shami, Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, Adam Zampa, Atharva Taide, Abhinav Manohar, Simarjeet Singh, Zeeshan Ansari, Jaydev Unadkat, Kamindu Mendis, Aniket Verma, Eshan Malinga, Sachin Baby

Injury replacement: Wiaan Mulder replaced the injured Brydon Carse

    Rajasthan Royals:

Sanju Samson (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Sandeep Sharma, Jofra Archer, Wainindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Akash Madhwal, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Nitish Rana, Tushar Deshpande, Shubham Dubey, Yudhvir Charak, Fazal Farooqi, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Kwena Maphaka, Kunal Rathore, Ashok Sharma

    SRH vs RR key battles:

    Travis Head vs Jofra Archer:

The equation will be very simple for RR in the upcoming game – get rid of Travis Head as early as possible. The Australia star can cause irreparable damage even if he manages to bat for a few overs and RR would be keen to get his wicket as early as possible.

Head was in sensational form last season, scoring 567 runs at a strike rate of more than 190. He will be eyeing a similar performance this season as well and will be keen to start his campaign on a good note.

RR will be hoping that their pace spearhead Jofra Archer dismisses Head as early as possible. Last month, Archer had dismissed Head cheaply when Australia faced England in the Champions Trophy and the fast-bowler will be fancying his chances of dismissing the opener again.

    Heinrich Klaasen vs Wanindu Hasaranga:

This battle could very well decide the fate of the SRH vs RR game. Heinrich Klaasen is one of the most destructive batsmen in the world at present and he is equally good against spin bowlers. The onus will be on him to end SRH’s innings on a strong note.

RR, on the other hand, will be relying on their Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga to contain Klaasen. Hasaranga is also one of the best white-ball spinners in the world and he would be backing himself to win his duel against the South Africa star.

    Sanju Samson vs Pat Cummins:

The battle of the captains will also be a very crucial one in the upcoming SRH vs RR game. Sanju Samson is entering this season on the back of three centuries in T20Is. The RR skipper has made a habit of starting the season well and he will be looking to do the same in the upcoming as well.

Samson can very well take the game away from SRH if he bats long enough. And the onus will be on SRH captain Pat Cummins to ensure that his RR counterpart does not bat for long.

    SRH vs RR Key Players:

SRH – Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Harshal Patel will be the key players for SRH.

RR – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, and Sandeep Sharma will be the key players for RR.

    SRH vs RR Weather Report:

While the weather forecast has predicted a sunny day in Hyderabad on the match day, there is a slight chance of rain in the city. The temperature is likely to hover in the early 30s during the game.

    Conclusion:

Both SRH and RR had a good campaign last year and they will be keen to start this campaign on a winning note as well. After missing out on the trophy last year, both teams will be looking to go all the way in IPL 2025.

IPL 2024: RR skipper Sanju Samson reveals the reason of defeat against SRH in Qualifier 2

Despite emerging as the prime contender to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the halfway point of the season, Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) campaign met its conclusion before the final. The Sanju Samson-led team suffered a 36-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday (May 24).

RR’s commendable bowling effort falls short

Bowling first, Rajasthan did a commendable job of restricting Hyderabad’s intimidating batting unit, which has broken records aplenty this season, to a score of 175/9. Key bowlers managed to keep the Hyderabad batters in check, showcasing their skill and strategy. However, despite their best efforts, the target proved too challenging for the Rajasthan’ batters, who could only accumulate 139 runs in response.

    Sanju Samson’s post-match reflections

After the game, Samson credited Hyderabad’s spinners and noted the pitch’s unexpected behavior in the second innings, acknowledging that their middle-over performance against spin was lacking and the turning wicket was well-utilized by the opposition.

“This was a big game. I am proud of our bowlers, but we were short in the middle overs. Their use of spin against our right-handed batsmen was good; we lost the game against spin in the middle-overs. When the ball was turning, we could’ve used sweep or used our feet, but they bowled well. The wicket started behaving differently in the second innings. The ball started turning a bit and they used that advantage really well,” Samson said in the post-match presentation.

    Unpredictable conditions

Samson discussed the unpredictable conditions, noting the absence of dew and increased ball turn in the second innings, which complicated their chase. He reflected on their batting strategy, acknowledging they could have used the crease better, but praised Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma for their effective bowling.

“It was hard to assess and guess when dew would come; it didn’t come and it started turning a lot in the second innings, which made things difficult for us. The unexpected turn of the ball added to the challenges faced by Rajasthan Royals during their chase. Samson also reflected on the team’s batting strategy, noting, When the ball was stopping and turning, we could have used the crease a bit better but they (Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma) bowled well and didn’t give us anything to work with,” the 29-year-old concluded.

IPL 2024: Qualifier 2, Stats Review: Most sixes conceded in IPL and other stats from SRH vs RR – CricTracker

Sunrisers Hyderabad gave themselves an opportunity to avenge their loss in the first qualifier to KKR by beating Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier. It was only the second meeting between the two teams in the playoffs and SRH managed to settle a score from more than a decade ago.

After being put in, SRH struggled for control early in the innings, as Trent Boult (3 for 45) went about business as usual in the powerplay despite a fightback from Rahul Tripathi (37 off 15). But RR kept hitting back in the middle overs mainly with the help of Sandeep Sharma (2 for 25) and Avesh Khan (3 for 27). Heinrich Klaasen (50 off 34) staged a fightback that pushed SRH to 175, which at the time did not feel enough.

Despite some struggling from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Yashasvi Jaiswal (42 off 21) went about hitting his shots in the powerplay, but once he was dismissed off Shahbaz Ahmed (3 for 23) in the eighth over, RR’s batting simply imploded as Abhishek Sharma (2 for 24) joined Ahmed in deepening RR’s scars. While there was some hope when Dhruv Jurel(56* off 35) counter-attacked, all the damage was done and RR could only manage 139 and went on to lose by 36 runs.

Here are all the stats from this match

1 – Yuzvendra Chahal will no longer take part in this IPL season, and he signs this season off having conceded 223 sixes in his entire IPL career. The most by any bowler. Piyush Chawla is hot on his heels with 222 but, the distinction is safe with Chahal till next year’s IPL.

3 – Yuzvendra Chahal became the third bowler to concede 30 sixes in a single season in the IPL. Wanindu Hasaranga in 2022 had the exact same number as Chahal of 30, while the overall record belongs to Mohammed Siraj who conceded 31 in 2022

4 – The two fours by Dhruv Jurel hurt his figures, but Shahbaz Ahmed still finished with the third-best bowling figures by an SRH player in the playoffs.

3 – Dhruv Jurel’s 56* is the joint-third highest individual score by an RR batter in the playoffs. Yusuf Pathan had made the same score, albeit dismissed in the inaugural IPL final.

The spin and grip will likely limit scoring opportunities, potentially leading to a match where bowlers dominate proceedings.

While the sky will be cloudy, there is a 0% chance of precipitation, posing no disruption in the game. Despite temperatures possibly reaching 32 degrees Celsius, potentially testing the players’ endurance, the presence of winds at around 19 km/hr should offer some relief. Humidity levels are forecasted to be around 76%, which could impact both batters and bowlers alike.

Rajasthan Royals wonderfully started their IPL 2023 campaign by registering a massive 72-run win in their opening encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2, Sunday. After being put into bat first, Rajasthan happily accepted the invitation and posted a humongous total of 203/5 in the first innings.

In reply, they restricted Hyderabad to 131/8 in their allotted 20 overs and started their IPL 2023 campaign on a winning note. As Rajasthan thumped Hyderabad, a hysterical moment from the second innings went viral on social media when star batter Jos Buttler was seen asking for an over from his captain Sanju Samson.

Rajasthan had complete control of the match in the second innings as SRH batters surrendered in front of their famed bowling attack and were reeling at 84/7 after 14.5 overs. Sensing a comprehensive victory for his side, Buttler made a gesture of bowling a delivery to Samson and asked for an over. The swashbuckling batter was seen smiling as his request was politely denied by the Rajasthan Captain.

    Watch the video here:

Buttler couldn’t get a chance to bowl, however, he made the most of his opportunity to bat scoring a quick-fire half-century off just 20 balls. Buttler along with Yashasvi Jaiswal added 85 runs for the first wicket off just 35 balls and helped Rajasthan put on their highest score in the powerplay in IPL history.

Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal set up a 72-run victory for Rajasthan Royals

The English opener was dismissed after scoring 54 off just 22 balls smashing seven fours and three sixes in his innings and was also awarded Player of the Match for his knock. Apart from Buttler, Jaiswal (54 off 37) and Sanju Samson (55 off 32) also scored half-centuries to help Rajasthan surpass the 200-run mark.

Rajasthan got off to an electrifying start with the ball as well Trent Boult dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi for ducks in the first over itself. In the middle overs Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal came to the party and picked crucial wickets for their side. Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan as he finished his spell with 4/17 after 4 overs and dismissed the dangerous-looking Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal.
