WPL 2023 [Twitter reactions]: Harmanpreet Kaur drives Mumbai Indians to a stunning win over UP Warriorz

Mumbai Indians (MI) have continued their domination in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 by claiming the fourth consecutive victory. In the 10th match, Mumbai took on UP Warriorz at Brabourne Stadium and defeated them by eight wickets on Sunday.

Batting first, UP Warriorz posted a total of 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Alyssa Healy was the top scorer for the team, contributing 58 runs off 46 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Tahlia McGrath also chipped in with 50 off 37 balls, hitting 9 fours. Amelia Kerr was the pick of the bowler for Mumbai, taking 2 wickets for 33 runs in her quota of 4 overs.

In response, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with ease, reaching 164 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 17.3 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the star of the night as she led from the front and stayed unbeaten on 53 off 33 balls, including 9 fours and 1 six. Harman was well supported by England star Nat Sciver-Brunt who remained undefeated on 45 off 31 balls, hitting 6 fours and a maximum.

“Very happy with the performance. The way we are gelling together, I think this is the best tournament so far. Thanks to Nat, she played really well. Because of her I got some time to settle in and later play some shots. The way they were batting, we were a bit tense, but I knew one or two wickets could get momentum back into our favour. We were calculating how many overs were left and which bowlers to target, and that’s what cricket is all about. You gotta express yourself and pick your targets. We just need to keep doing the right things,” sad Harmanpreet after bagging the Player of the Match award.

WPL 2023 [Twitter reactions]: Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone shine in Warriorz’ dominating win over Bangalore

In the 8th math of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023, UP Warriorz defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. It was RCB’s fourth back-to-back loss in the 20-over competition.

Bangalore won the toss and opted to bat first, but the decision went horribly wrong, and they could only reach 138 in 19.3 overs. RCB star Ellyse Perry top-scored for the team with 52 off 39 balls, including 6 fours and a six. Opener Sophie Devine chipped in with 36 off 24 deliveries, with the help of six boundaries, including a maximum.

Spinner Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowler for the Challengers, picking up a 4-wicket haul for just 13 runs in her quota of four overs. Deepti Sharma also bagged three scalps for 26 runs in 4 overs.

In response, UP Warriorz gunned down the target in 13 overs with all 10 wickets in hand. Skipper and captain Alyssa Healy dominated the show and completely bulldozed the RCB’s bowling attack. Captain Healy smashed an unbeaten 96 from just 47 deliveries, with the help of 18 fours and a six. She was well supported by Devika Vaidya, who stayed undefeated at 36 runs.

“Really pleased with our bowlers tonight to keep them under 200. Full credit to the spinners as they held their nerve and took wickets at crucial times. It was spin to win tonight. It was a good batting wicket and the spinners did a fine job. Shweta is only a baby and coming into such a competition is difficult. We watched Vaidya in the recent series (against India) and wondered what she was doing at number 7, she played a fine knock and took the pressure off me. We just set the platform early, and by the timeout we needed run a ball, we didn’t want to drag it too long,” said Healy after bagging the Player of the Match award.

WPL 2023 [Twitter reactions]: Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen shine as Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz

In the fifth match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

Put to bat first, the Capitals got off to a good start, with opener Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning adding 67 runs. Shafali was dismissed for 17, but Lanning kept her end alive and continued the beating. The DC skipper played an incredible innings of 70 runs from just 42 deliveries with the help of 10 fours and three sixes.

Jess Jonassen also chipped in with a crucial 42 off just 20 balls, laced up with three fours and as many sixes. The Capitals eventually finished with a formidable total of 211/4 in their 20 overs.

In response, the Warriorz could only manage to reach 169/5, losing the contest by 42 runs. Despite wickets falling from one end, Tahlia McGrath kept the fight alive for the Warriorz with a stunning unbeaten knock of 90 from 50 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes.

However, McGrath didn’t get much support from the other end, and UP fell short of the target by 42 runs. Jonassen, who shined with the bat, was the pick of the bowlers for Capitals, bagging a three-wicket haul for 43 runs.

“Tonight it was probably Jess the batter. Went for a few runs at the end (with the ball). I love batting. Nice that it came off tonight. The wicket was incredible. She definitely hits me for quite a few sixes in the nets (Healy). Happy to get one over her. Always an enjoyable competition when we come up against one another,” said Jonassen after bagging Player of the Match award.
