Kevin Durant is heading to the Phoenix Suns and the NBA world has celebrated by piling on Aussie Ben Simmons.<\/p>\n

Simmons has been much maligned and endeared himself to no one in the NBA world after his ugly exit from the Philadelphia 76ers and seemingly failing to improve from his first season in the league.<\/p>\n

Despite being on a supermax deal he signed in Philadelphia and taking a reported $US35.4m ($A50.8m) home this season, Simmons has played 38 games this season, averaging career lows in points at 7.2 per game, rebounds (6.4) and assists (6.4).<\/p>\n

In his career, he averages 14.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists.<\/p>\n

The Nets had been hoping the acquisition of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving would have helped the franchise win its first NBA championship after both joined in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the side was knocked out in the first round of the NBA playoffs in 2019-20 and 2021-22, and the second round in 2020-21.<\/p>\n

Irving refused to get the Covid vaccine<\/a>, meaning he could not play in New York last season, was banned for an anti-Semitic post <\/a>and had an all-round controversial time in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Durant has starred for the Nets but requested a trade last year.<\/p>\n

This week, Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> and now Durant has been dealt to the Phoenix Suns<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks sent Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2029 first round draft pick and two second round picks in exchange for Irving and Markieff Morris.<\/p>\n

For Durant, the Nets receiving Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and four first-round draft picks in return.<\/p>\n

Reports recently said Simmons\u2019 coach Jacque Vaughn was growing increasingly frustrated with the Aussie<\/a> and was nearing breaking point.<\/p>\n

But Simmons is unlikely to be traded as well, with an NBA executive telling NJ Advance Media the 26-year-old\u2019s trade value <\/a>is \u201cvery little for the amount of money he makes.\u201d<\/p>\n

It leaves Simmons in Brooklyn without his superstar teammates and fans were only too eager to pile on the three-time NBA All-Star.<\/p>\n

ABC journalist Evan Morgan Grahame tweeted: \u201cnow, finally \u2026 it\u2019s time for an unshackled Ben Simmons to lead the Nets to the title\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sports Commentator Jonny Loquasto joked: \u201cFollowing the Kevin Durant trade, Cam Thomas will now average 40 shots per game for the Nets while Ben Simmons will bump it up to 2.5\u201d.<\/p>\n

Musician DJ Homicide wrote: \u201cNets go from a big 3 to ben simmons and role players\u201d.<\/p>\n

Atlanta Falcons defensive back Darren Hall added: \u201cI blame Ben Simmons for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sports reporter Mark Gottlieb posted: \u201cI guess the Nets are *looks around* Ben Simmons\u2019 team?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s actually Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges\u2019 team but that\u2019s not as funny.\u201d<\/p>\n
