{"id":131362,"date":"2024-08-12T18:12:43","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/12\/people-can-think-what-they-want-tashkent-city-women-respond-to-criticism-after-four-riders-abandon-tour-de-france-femmes\/"},"modified":"2024-08-12T18:12:43","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:12:43","slug":"people-can-think-what-they-want-tashkent-city-women-respond-to-criticism-after-four-riders-abandon-tour-de-france-femmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/12\/people-can-think-what-they-want-tashkent-city-women-respond-to-criticism-after-four-riders-abandon-tour-de-france-femmes\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;People can think what they want&#8217; &#8211; Tashkent City Women respond to criticism after four riders abandon Tour de France Femmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Tashkent City Women have responded to criticism after several of their riders got dropped and abandoned during the opening stage of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-de-france-femmes\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/tour-de-france-femmes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tour de France Femmes<\/a>, stating that their presence here alone is a \u201cvictory\u201d for cycling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the Uzbek team made history as the first central Asian team to start a Tour de France, men\u2019s or women\u2019s, their debut was overshadowed by a dismal display in the Netherlands heat, with more than half their team not being able to live with the WorldTour peloton\u2019s pace on <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/tour-de-france-femmes-2024\/stage-1\/results\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/tour-de-france-femmes-2024\/stage-1\/results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stage 1 into The Hague<\/a> and leaving the race.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest paywall\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u201cFirst stage, the team are not feeling really good because we lost four riders but it\u2019s a mono-nation team and our first time in Tour de France so we are in the middle I will say,\u201d Director Sportiff Volodymyr Starchyk told <em>Cyclingnews<\/em> after the stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u201cFor a mono-nation with not many women\u2019s riders in the country, to be present in the Tour de France Femmes is something big in my opinion. To be ready for big results, they need time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Tashkent received a lot of criticism on social media both when it was announced that they had secured a spot at every women\u2019s WorldTour race, including the Tour de France, by finishing ranked in the top 18 for women\u2019s teams. During the opening stage in the Netherlands, their riders continued to abandon as the kilometres ticked by.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The first came inside the opening 40km of racing, Ekaterina Knebeleva, with 19-year-old Asal Rizaeva and 18-year-old Mohinabonu Elmurodova following suit not long after. Finally, Madina Kakhorova was the fourth rider not making it through.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Starchyk swerved the question when asked whether the team knew the teenagers specifically wouldn\u2019t be able to follow the pace and whether this was the best idea, choosing to respond matter of factly that, \u201cIt\u2019s not easy to finish when you are 19 years old\u201d.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slice-container-newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-m24NkefKq9P3fm7REbqjt5\" class=\"slice-container newsletter-inbodyContent-slice newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-m24NkefKq9P3fm7REbqjt5 slice-container-newsletterForm\">\n<div data-hydrate=\"true\" class=\"newsletter-form__wrapper newsletter-form__wrapper--inbodyContent\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__container\">\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__top-bar\"\/>\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__main-section\">\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Only one of their riders managed to finish in the main group &#8211; talented 22-year-old Yanina Kuskova, who is the three-time Uzbek national champion. But Starchyk wasn\u2019t phased, simply choosing to focus on how much of a success it was for them to even be on the start line.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u201cPeople can think everything they want.
