The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealt a crushing blow to their playoff hopes, with superstar LeBron James set for an extended stint on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

That is according to NBA insider Shams Charania, who reported on Tuesday that the Lakers are \u201cbracing\u201d for James to miss \u201cmultiple weeks\u201d with the right foot injury he picked up in a 111-108 win over the Mavericks.<\/p>\n

James scored 26 points in the comeback win over Dallas, which lifted the Lakers to a third-straight victory and 29-32 record. They currently sit 12th in the Western Conference. <\/p>\n

\u201cFkn sucks,\u201d James wrote on his Instagram story on Tuesday while recording himself lying on a bed with his right foot strapped. <\/p>\n

The Lakers shape as a genuine wildcard should they qualify for the playoffs, having made the necessary moves before the trade deadline to put a few key pieces around James.<\/p>\n

Jarred Vanderbilt was one of those players and has quickly proven a deadline steal, most recently putting up 15 points and 17 rebounds in the win over the Mavericks. <\/p>\n

Now though it will be on Anthony Davis to carry the load in James\u2019 absence, with the 38-year-old unlikely to return before midway through next month. <\/p>\n

Cameras caught James saying he heard his ankle \u201cpop\u201d late in the third quarter against Dallas, admitting post-game he had \u201cbeen better\u201d when asked about his foot injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I definitely wasn\u2019t going to go to the locker room and not finish the game out tonight,\u201d James added. <\/p>\n

\u201cJust understood the importance of the game, and then with the momentum that we had, I felt like we could still win after being down.\u201d<\/p>\n

That they did but the Lakers will need to keep the wins coming if they are any hope of qualifying for even the play-in tournament. L.A. has won five of 14 games without James this season.<\/p>\n

Working in the Lakers\u2019 favour though is the fact the teams directly above them \u2014 the Trail Blazers, Pelicans, Timberwolves and Jazz \u2014 aren\u2019t exactly world-beaters right now. <\/p>\n

So there is still hope if Davis and the likes of D\u2019Angelo Russell and Vanderbilt help fill the void for the time being.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to make a push to make the playoffs,\u201d James said at All-Star weekend. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to see myself not being part of the post-season for two years straight. It\u2019s just not part of my DNA.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re sitting up here talking about the record and things of that nature, and that\u2019s all cool, but I\u2019m more passionate about trying to make the post-season and give ourselves a chance to compete for another (title).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
