No, it was not that Carlos Alcaraz, but a 22-year-old Argentine midfielder who joined Everton a fortnight ago and produced one of the highlights of a thrilling day in the English top flight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was Alcaraz\u2019s first start for the Toffees, and he was the hero in maintaining their five-match unbeaten run as they enjoy a resurgence under new manager David Moyes, who was in charge of the Merseyside club from 2002 to 2013.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz pounced on a rebound from a shot by veteran Ashley Young in the 80th minute to score what proved to be the decisive goal – after Beto\u2019s opener was cancelled out by Jean-Phillipe Mateta for the hosts – in Everton\u2019s 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, Selhurst Park is only a roughly half an hour drive through south London from the grass courts of Wimbledon were Alcaraz\u2019s namesake is the two-time defending champion.<\/p>\n

The footballer Alcaraz came to Everton on loan, with the option to buy at season\u2019s end, from Brazilian club Flamego earlier this month.<\/p>\n

It is his second spell in the Premier League after previously making 42 appearances for Southampton, who sent him on loan to Italian giants Juventus for a 10-game spell last year.<\/p>\n

That was the first time the two Alcaraz\u2019s had fun with sharing the same name.<\/p>\n

The tennis superstar commented on Juventus\u2019 Instagram post announcing the signing of the Argentine, writing \u2018I\u2019ll try my best! Thanks for the trust\u2019 followed by a laughing emoji.<\/p>\n

The four-time grand slam champion showed off his footballing skills last year in a charity match for Boca Juniors, but it is safe to say that he will be sticking to the tennis court and allowing his namesake to light up the football pitch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
