Trek-Segafredo will announce the full roster on Friday but confirmed that Amanda Spratt and Elisa Balsamo will lead the team at the 136km race in Siena on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No Strade Bianche for me this year, as I fell sick this morning\u2026 Aawww, my favourite race\u2026 I\u2019ll be cheering for my Trek-Segafredo teammates from the sofa!&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/uae-tour-women-2023\/stage-4\/results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Longo Borghini<\/a> wrote in a post on social media on Thursday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest paywall\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-womens-worldtour\/2023\/trek-segafredo-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trek-Segafredo<\/a> later confirmed that Longo Borghini is experiencing flu-like symptoms and will take time to recover before resuming her targets during the Spring Classics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">&#8220;Due to light flu symptoms, unfortunately, Elisa Longo Borghini won&#8217;t race on Saturday. Tomorrow the team we&#8217;ll be able to confirm the final roster for the race, that will have Amanda Spratt and Elisa Balsamo as key riders,&#8221; the team wrote in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Longo Borghini&#8217;s absence from the Italian Women&#8217;s WorldTour race marks the second key home contender who is unable to start after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/cavalli-takes-time-away-from-racing-due-to-lingering-injuries-from-2022-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FDJ-SUEZ announced that they removed Marta Cavalli from their roster<\/a> two days ahead of Strade Bianche. Cavalli will observe a period of time away from racing to continue her long-term recovery from serious injuries she sustained from a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/cavalli-out-of-tour-de-france-femmes-after-horror-crash-on-tough-day-for-fdj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">horrific crash at the Tour de France Femmes<\/a>\u00a0last July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Longo Borghini has enjoyed a successful start to her season, winning stage 3 and the overall title at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/uae-tour-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UAE Tour Women<\/a> in February. She went on to finish 10th at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/omloop-het-nieuwsblad-elite-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Omloop Het Nieuwsblad<\/a> last weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">She was a favourite contender among the peloton, having won the race in 2017 and has stood on the podium in three other editions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Trek-Segafredo have yet to confirm their full roster, but both Spratt and Balsamo have proven early-season form and will also be among the contenders during the race across white gravel roads throughout Tuscany.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The race will finish along the steep climb of the Via Santa Caterina and into the Piazza del Campo in Siena.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/sickness-sidelines-elisa-longo-borghini-from-strade-bianche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elisa Longo Borghini has been sidelined from racing her favourite home event Strade Bianche due to a recent illness.
