Manchester United fans bemoaning Andre Onana’s mistakes could soon be a thing of the past as the club eye up two new goalkeepers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

talkSPORT understands boss Ruben Amorim<\/a> is keen for a shake-up in the position following underwhelming displays by Onana and Altay Bayindir.<\/p>\n

Since Onana<\/a> joined from Inter Milan for \u00a343.7million in 2023, the Cameroon international has been plagued by inconsistency.<\/p>\n

No Premier League goalkeeper has conceded more errors than Onana’s nine across all competitions since his arrival in England.<\/p>\n

Two high-profile mistakes<\/a> came in his last outing against Lyon in the recent 2-2 Europa League quarter-final first leg tie.<\/p>\n

Onana parried in Thiago Almada’s whipped in free-kick to gift Lyon the lead, before palming a late strike into Rayan Cherki’s path as the hosts grabbed a dramatic equaliser.<\/p>\n

It came just a day after former United midfielder Nemanja Matic<\/a> – now at Lyon – labelled Onana as the ‘worst goalkeeper’<\/a> in the club’s history.<\/p>\n

His performance saw him left out of a first Premier League matchday squad<\/a> for Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.<\/p>\n

But Bayindir, who is also in his second season at Old Trafford, failed to impress, notably being at fault for the Magpies’ fourth goal after passing out straight to Joelinton<\/a> who then played in Bruno Guimaraes.<\/p>\n

The shocking collective display leaves United languishing in 14th spot to condemn them to their lowest ever points tally<\/a> in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

All signs point towards a busy summer at the Theatre of Dreams as Amorim looks to build a squad capable of challenging for a Champions League spot.<\/p>\n

And with a new number one goalkeeper to potentially be brought in, talkSPORT takes a look at seven players who could be on their radar.<\/p>\n

Onana has missed just one top-flight game since joining United in 2023<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Aaron Ramsdale<\/h2>\n

The England international linked up with Southampton from Arsenal<\/a> last summer, but has failed to keep the club in the top-flight.<\/p>\n

He has now endured relegation with three different clubs<\/a> having also done so at Bournemouth and Sheffield United.<\/p>\n

But despite what has been a difficult season for the Saints, the 26-year-old<\/a> has been one of their shining lights.<\/p>\n

Despite missing six games due to injury, only Brentford’s Mark Flekken has made more saves than Ramsdale’s 105.<\/p>\n

With no errors leading to goals, Ramsdale would not only provide stability, but would add experience in challenging for a Premier League title.<\/p>\n

And talkSPORT understands that the player is on United’s shortlist, with it remaining to be seen whether they will formalise their interest.<\/p>\n

Zion Suzuki<\/h2>\n

The Parma goalkeeper is also being chased by United following an impressing campaign so far at Parma.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT told you last week how the Red Devils had stepped up their scouting<\/a> of the Japan international, who is valued at around \u00a340m.<\/p>\n

United hold long-term interest in the 22-year-old having previously been keen to sign him in 2023, only for Suzuki to instead join Belgian side Sint-Truiden on loan instead.<\/p>\n

Confirming the interest at the time, Suzuki said: “It\u2019s true that there was an offer from Manchester United.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a football player and as a person, if I hadn\u2019t thought about anything, of course, I would like to go to Manchester United, but among them, I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me.<\/p>\n

\u201cManchester United have acquired Onana. It\u2019s important for me to participate in matches, and I think it is also important to play on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bart Verbruggen<\/h2>\n

The Dutchman has cemented himself as Brighton’s number one this season, and is a key reason they are in contention to seal a spot in the Europa Conference League.<\/p>\n

He has also established himself as the starting shot-stopper for Netherlands’ national team.<\/p>\n

As well as six clean sheets in 30 top-flight outings this term, the 22-year-old has also made 73 saves.<\/p>\n

Though with four errors leading to goal, the youngster still has room for improvement.<\/p>\n

However, with three years left on his contract at the Amex Stadium, Brighton are in no rush to part ways with him.<\/p>\n

But with Bayern Munich also believed to be keen on Verbruggen as a successor to Manuel Neuer<\/a>, United know they will have to act fast should they wish to secure his services.<\/p>\n

Joan Garcia<\/h2>\n

The Spaniard seems destined for a switch away from Espanyol this summer with a number of Europe’s elite keeping tabs on him.<\/p>\n

Arsenal are known to be huge admirers with Mikel Arteta<\/a> weighing up a move to provide competition for David Raya<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No goalkeeper has made more than Garcia’s 112 saves in LaLiga this term, with his fine form leading to shouts he should be named in Spain’s next national team squad.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs understands than Garcia is on United’s radar having been identified as someone who fits Amorim’s system.<\/p>\n

Valued at around \u00a320m, Garcia would also represent great value for money – allowing United to spend heavily in other areas.<\/p>\n

And if Espanyol suffer relegation, he would be available for around \u00a312.6m due to a clause in his deal.<\/p>\n

James Trafford<\/h2>\n

Despite plying his trade in the Championship at Burnley, Trafford has enjoyed nothing short of a sensational season.<\/p>\n

He has proved instrumental in the Clarets sitting second in table – behind Leeds only on goal difference as the club look set to achieve an instant Premier League return.<\/p>\n

Incredibly, the England youth international has kept a whopping 28 clean sheets from 41 league outings.<\/p>\n

Trafford failed to concede in 12 consecutive matches from Boxing Day to February 21.<\/p>\n

He has shipped in just 13 goals in the Championship so far.<\/p>\n

And he could now look for a move away from Turf Moor in his quest to force himself into Thomas Tuchel<\/a>‘s Three Lions plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Mads Hermansen<\/h2>\n

Like Ramsdale, Hermansen looks destined for the drop with Leicester sitting 19th in the table – 17 points off safety with just six games remaining.<\/p>\n

And though Hermansen has let in 54 goals, he is not the reason why the Foxes are heading for a swift return to the Championship.<\/p>\n

And United are known to be admirers, with The Telegraph revealing in January how the club sent goalkeeper scout Tony Coton to watch the Denmark star<\/a> in action in December’s 2-2 draw to Brighton on home soil.<\/p>\n

Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy<\/a> recently discussed the goalkeeper departing the King Power Stadium.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he is a player that could fetch a big fee, the United legend said: “Of course, but the most important thing is to keep your best players.<\/p>\n

“That is the target. Let\u2019s see how the coming weeks go in getting aligned.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has been widely tipped be to Thibaut Courtois<\/a>‘ long-term successor between the stick for Belgium’s national team.<\/p>\n

It’s believed that the Royal Antwerp star is a firm target for United, and the player himself is aware of the rumours.<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier this month about the club’s interest in him, he remarked: “The first time I heard it, I thought, ‘Wow, a world team that follows you. That is special.’<\/p>\n

“It’s only positive. Especially because it’s the best competition in the world and my profile \u2013 my stature and way of playing \u2013 is similar to English football.<\/p>\n

“You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me.”<\/p>\n
