{"id":174887,"date":"2025-04-17T16:38:24","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T16:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/17\/browns-gm-compares-travis-hunter-to-shohei-ohtani\/"},"modified":"2025-04-17T16:38:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T16:38:24","slug":"browns-gm-compares-travis-hunter-to-shohei-ohtani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/17\/browns-gm-compares-travis-hunter-to-shohei-ohtani\/","title":{"rendered":"Browns GM compares Travis Hunter to Shohei Ohtani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>While Colorado cornerback\/wide receiver Travis Hunter<span>\u00a0can&#8217;t control which team selects him in the upcoming NFL Draft, he sent quite a message to would-be employers when he\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/travis_hunter_puts_foot_down_in_position_dispute\/s1_13132_42056333\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>recently said<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0he&#8217;d consider &#8220;never playing football again&#8221; if a club tried to stop him from being a two-way player as a rookie.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry either intentionally or unintentionally delivered a strong response to those words when he compared Hunter to<span>\u00a0<\/span>Los Angeles Dodgers<span>\u00a0star and three-time Most Valuable Player<\/span> Shohei Ohtani.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a little bit like Ohtani,&#8221; Berry said about how Cleveland could use Hunter, as shared by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/browns-gm-andrew-berry-we-wouldn-t-put-cap-on-ohtani-like-travis-hunter-s-usage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kevin Patra<\/a> of the NFL&#8217;s website. &#8220;You know he&#8217;s playing one side, and he&#8217;s an outstanding player. If he&#8217;s a pitcher or hitter, he&#8217;s an outstanding player. You, obviously, get a unicorn if you use him both ways.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Browns currently hold the draft&#8217;s second pick and, per individuals such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/44685473\/a-look-giants-pursuit-travis-hunter-abdul-carter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN&#8217;s Jordan Raanan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6279834\/2025\/04\/16\/nfl-mock-draft-2025-full-seven-rounds-dane-brugler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Athletic&#8217;s Dane Brugler,<\/a> are expected to select Hunter over Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter. As of Thursday afternoon, <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsbook.draftkings.com\/leagues\/football\/nfl?category=2025-draft&amp;subcategory=pick-number\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DraftKings Sportsbook<\/a> had Hunter as the betting favorite at -380 odds to be the draft&#8217;s second choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NFL insiders<span>\u00a0such as\u00a0<\/span>Albert Breer <span>of Sports Illustrated\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/insider_names_team_that_could_give_travis_hunter_exactly_what_he_wants\/s1_13132_42060813\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>have mentioned<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0throughout the spring that the Browns need help on both sides of the ball and, thus, should give Hunter the playing opportunities he desires. On Thursday, Berry insisted that Hunter&#8217;s threat about possibly quitting the sport &#8220;really doesn&#8217;t&#8221; affect the club&#8217;s potential draft strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>&#8220;I think one of the things that you can&#8217;t fully appreciate until you actually see Travis play live is his elite conditioning,&#8221; Berry added. &#8220;Going out and seeing him play at Colorado, he really never comes off the field. It&#8217;s unbelievable because there are more plays in a college game than the pro game. That being said, what he would attempt to do has not been done in our league, but we necessarily wouldn&#8217;t put a cap on or govern in terms of what he could do. &#8230;I think I mentioned before that we would see his first home as receiver and his second home as the defensive side of the ball.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/44716234\/browns-gm-says-travis-hunter-unicorn-due-versatility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Daniel Oyefusi<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0of ESPN, Berry indicated on Thursday that the Browns haven&#8217;t yet made a final decision on what to do with the No. 2 pick.
