Manchester United’s Old Trafford woe in the Premier League shows no signs of stopping as they were beaten again on home soil.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils<\/a> suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Sunday afternoon to leave them languishing in 14th spot with five games remaining.<\/p>\n

Now sitting 11 points off a Europa Conference League spot, any chance of United plying their trade across next term lies in winning the Europa League.<\/p>\n

And they can be thankful their record at home in Europe’s second-tier tournament has been impressive – a contrast to what it has been in the top-flight.<\/p>\n

Ruben Amorim<\/a>‘s men have now lost 15 Premier League games in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

It is their most ever in a single season in the division since it’s inception in 1992.<\/p>\n

Their most losses in a campaign came in 1989\/90, where they were defeated on 16 occasions.<\/p>\n

It’s also now eight defeats at the Theatre of Dreams this term, with fans treated to nightmare displays more often than not.<\/p>\n

Only in the 1962\/63 season have United boasted more league defeats with nine.<\/p>\n

And there’s every chance they not equal that tally, but better it, with home clashes against West Ham and Aston Villa on the horizon.<\/p>\n

Their dismal displays in the Premier League season means they are guaranteed to finish with their lowest points tally.<\/p>\n

It currently stands at 58 points, which was set during the 2021\/22 season.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile they are destined to finish in their lowest Premier League finish, which they set last term after ending in eighth spot.<\/p>\n

And to add insult to injury, Wolves have completed the league double over United for the first time since 1980.<\/p>\n

Speaking after his side’s latest defeat, Amorim stressed there is still plenty of work to do for United to improve next season.<\/p>\n

He said: “This season is going to end like this. We need to take the positives, try to work on the things we need to improve.<\/p>\n

“Again, I think I’ve been saying this for a quite a while. They will have one chance because this is the Premier League.<\/p>\n

“We need to score goals. We have to work and try to be better in the first game of next season. That’s in the past.<\/p>\n

“When you play for a big club like this, you win one game, one stage in the Europa League, but let’s move on.<\/p>\n

“We were the better team on the pitch. Like we did so many times this season, we had some good moments but then setbacks.<\/p>\n

“So one more but it’s really frustrating.<\/p>\n

“Sometimes, it’s when our opponents are really better, but today you can feel it, we had the game in our hands.”<\/p>\n

In his post-match press conference, Amorim added: “If you look at the game, we were the better team but in the end it doesn’t matter.<\/p>\n

“If we don’t score goals, nothing matters because in the end it is the result that counts, especially in these kinds of moments.<\/p>\n

“We create a lot of chances, we controlled the game. We blocked some good players from the opponent and then one set-piece changes the game and that’s it. It’s really frustrating to end the game like this.<\/p>\n

“We say to the fans the truth: that we lack a lot of things in our team, that we miss chances, that if we don’t score goals we are not going to win.<\/p>\n

“We have a lot to do and to focus on in improving the team step by step and understanding that until the end of the league it’s going to be like this and then we need to do something.”<\/p>\n

With United away at high-flying Bournemouth next weekend, a record-equalling defeat could see them drop to 17th if results go against them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
