In another important roster move for NJ\/NY Gotham FC, the club announced on Monday that Margaret \u201cMidge\u201d Purce had signed a new multi-year contract with the club though 2024 with a mutual option for the 2025 National Women\u2019s Soccer League season. The star striker was initially contracted through 2023. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m excited to be a part of the vision to build Gotham into one of the greatest clubs in the world,\u201d said Purce.<\/p>\n Purce has been pivotal to Gotham\u2019s success since she arrived at the club via a trade with the Portland Thorns in 2020. In 2021, she led Gotham in scoring with nine goals, finishing second in the NWSL Golden Boot race. That same year, she was a finalized for the NWSL MVP award and named to the NWSL Best XI. Last season, she scored three goals and notched three assists in 16 appearances. For the U.S. Women\u2019s National Team, she has scored four goals and notched three assists in 23 matches since her debut in 2019.<\/p>\n \u201cThis new contract for Midge is another step towards shaping Gotham FC for the present and the future,\u201d said Head Coach Juan Carlos Amor\u00f3s. \u201cMidge is an outstanding player with the ability to make the difference in the final third. Purce turned pro after an outstanding collegiate career at Harvard, where she scored 42 goals in 69 matches, was twice named Ivy League Player of the Year, and was honored as a First Team NSCAA All-American in 2016. She led the Crimson to three conference titles and three NCAA tournament appearances. In 2027, Purce was awarded the Radcliffe Prize as Harvard\u2019s top female student-athlete.<\/p>\n Purce\u2019s accolades extend well off the field. She was recently named by Forbes to its annual 30 Under 30 list<\/a>, recognizing \u201cathletes, founders, and executives blazing new trails in the sports world.\u201d\u00a0She serves as the youngest member of Harvard University\u2019s Board of Overseers, and helped the U.S. Women\u2019s National Team close its landmark collective bargaining agreement. Purse is a co-founder and board member of the Black Women\u2019s Player Collective<\/a>.
