But the move doesn\u2019t mean the drama ends there\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>The context: <\/strong>Every NFL team can issue one \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-jk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">franchise tag<\/a>\u201d per season to a player about to enter unrestricted free agency. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-ju\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two types of tags<\/a>: exclusive and the less expensive non-exclusive. Both commit the player to a one-year contract with the team, but if the tag is non-exclusive like Jackson\u2019s, the player can still negotiate with other squads.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If another team offers a longer, better-paying contract (<a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-tl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which is reportedly<\/a> what Jackson\u2019s after), the team that applied the franchise tag can match it or let the player walk in exchange for two first-round draft picks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s next: <\/strong>The Ravens said Jackson \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-tr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will be our QB<\/a>\u201d during the offseason, but the two parties have <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-ty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed to come to an agreement over a long-term contract<\/a> for the second straight year. The <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fdtllul-jtnjdhukh-tj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ravens notably could have locked Jackson in with an exclusive tag<\/a>, but that would\u2019ve cost them an additional $13M. Chump change, TBH.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>So, Jackson\u2019s with Baltimore <em>for now<\/em>, but we\u2019re a long way away from knowing who he\u2019ll actually suit up for (and how much he\u2019ll get to do so) this fall.
