Lionel Messi could be set for another reunion with a past teammate as Inter Miami are reportedly look to snap up Marcos Rojo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ex-Manchester United<\/a> defender linked up with Boja Juniors in his native Argentina in February 2021 after six-and-a-half-years spent at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Messi could be reunited with ex-Argentina teammate Rojo in Miami<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Rojo<\/a> featured in 122 games in all competitions for the Red Devils – winning the FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield.<\/p>\n

But he soon fell down the pecking order, leading to his departure, where he has since starred at La Bombonera.<\/p>\n

Now captain of the Buenos Aires outfit, Rojo has helped Boca scoop the Primera Division as well as two domestic cup competitions.<\/p>\n

However, with his contract to expire at the end of the 2025, it has been claimed he could be in line for a new adventure.<\/p>\n

According to TNT Sports Argentina<\/a>, the MLS club are weighing up a summer swoop to bring in the 35-year-old.<\/p>\n

Miami are in need of defensive reinforcements having conceded the joint-most goals [27] from the top ten teams in the Eastern Conference table.<\/p>\n

While they sit third in the table – five points behind leaders Philadelphia Union with a game in hand – the Herons haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last eight MLS fixtures.<\/p>\n

And with Club World Cup on the horizon, Miami are said to be eyeing up a move for the veteran defender.<\/p>\n

Should he make the move to the Magic City, he would be reunited with ex-Argentina teammates Messi<\/a> and Javier Mascherano.<\/p>\n

Mascherano<\/a>, now manager of Miami, played 53 times alongside Rojo for the 2022 World Cup winners from between 2011-2018.<\/p>\n

The pair then played once together during Rojo’s loan spell at Estudiantes in the 2019\/20 campaign.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Rojo played 45 times alongside Messi for Argentina from between 2011-2019.<\/p>\n

Rojo revealed last summer that Messi had been speaking to him about joining him in America, but he refused to do so out of loyalty towards Boca.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Argentine news outlet Radio La Red<\/a>, Rojo: “Leo called me, it\u2019s not like it was just anyone or an intermediary, no-one.<\/p>\n

“I spoke with Leo Messi, who told me about the possibility of going to Inter.<\/p>\n

“Imagine what that means for any footballer. The truth is I was not convinced to leave Boca, I had recently renewed.<\/p>\n

“The only thing I did was communicate with [Juan] Roman [Riquelme] to tell him about the situation and to tell him that if he needed me here I was going to stay.<\/p>\n

“I wasn\u2019t convinced to leave, I didn\u2019t want to leave.<\/p>\n

“If he told me that he needed me here for this year, I was 100 per cent convinced to continue in Boca and I want to continue doing it.”<\/p>\n

Should Rojo join Inter Miami, he would be the latest ex-teammate of Messi’s to be part of the squad.<\/p>\n

Currently on Inter’s books are Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who all enjoyed great success with Messi at Barcelona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
