Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has said Shreyas Iyer deserved a place in the India squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.<\/p>\n
With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their Test retirement last month, Iyer was widely expected to be a part of the inexperienced Indian Test team. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel decided to extend Shreyas Iyer’s exile from the Test side by ignoring him for the upcoming series as well.<\/p>\n
The right-handed batsman has not played a Test for India since the Hyderabad Test against England last year. He was dropped after the first Test of the five-match series and has not been recalled since. Even though Shreyas Iyer has performed extremely well across formats in the last one year, he has not been able to reclaim his place in the Test team.<\/p>\n

In the previous season of the Ranji Trophy, he impressed with the bat too, scoring 480 runs in the seven innings at an average of 68.57 with two centuries.<\/p>\n The Mumbai star enjoyed a stellar campaign in this year’s IPL as well. He scored 604 runs and led Punjab Kings to the IPL final.<\/p>\n Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer and said that the batter deserved a place in the Indian Test team. The former India captain pointed out that Iyer has been playing his best cricket in the last one year and should have been backed by the selectors.<\/p>\n Ganguly spoke about Iyer in a conversation with RevSportz when he was reminded about his post for the batsman in March this year. In his social media post, Ganguly had praised Iyer and said that the batter was ready for all formats.<\/p>\n “He has been playing at his best in the last one year, and should have been in this team. Last one year has been fantastic for him. He isn\u2019t the player who got left out.<\/p>\n “He is now scoring under pressure, taking responsibility, playing the short ball well.
