Sunderland are in talks to sign Granit Xhaka ahead of their top-flight return, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Black Cats are eyeing a deal worth \u00a38.7million for the midfielder.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT sources have confirmed the newly-promoted side are in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen<\/a> for Xhaka.<\/p>\n

Sunderland have offered the 32-year-old a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light.<\/p>\n

However, they face competition for his signature from Saudi Pro League outfit Neom SC.<\/p>\n

The Saudi club have already signed former Premier League<\/a> stars Alexandre Lacazette and Said Behrahma this summer.<\/p>\n

Neom also achieved promotion last season after finishing top of the Saudi second tier.<\/p>\n

Other clubs in European are also interested in signing the experienced Switzerland international.<\/p>\n

Xhaka currently has three years remaining on his deal at Leverkusen, who he joined from Arsenal in 2023.<\/p>\n

He followed that move by winning a league and cup double in his debut season with the club.<\/p>\n

The Swiss national team captain, who has 137 caps for his country, previously spent seven years in England with the Gunners.<\/p>\n

During that time, he made 225 Premier League appearances, scoring 17 goals and adding 24 assists.<\/p>\n

Xhaka was also part of two FA Cup-winning sides across his spell in north London.<\/p>\n

Sunderland’s interest comes amid a busy summer of spending on Wearside.<\/p>\n

Regis Le Bris has already splashed out \u00a3100m on six new additions to his squad.<\/p>\n

Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, Chemsdine Taibi and Noah Sadiki have all arrived at the club.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Enzo Le Fee’s loan from Roma was made permanent for \u00a320m and Reinildo has joined on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n

The Black Cats will be making their return to the Premier League following an eight-year absence.<\/p>\n
