Manchester United should aim higher than Ollie Watkins in their pursuit of a new striker.<\/strong><\/p>\n That\u2019s the view of talkSPORT pundit Rory Jennings who provided an insight into why the Aston Villa<\/a> striker is not the right long-term fit for the Red Devils.<\/p>\n 3<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div> It comes after talkSPORT revealed on Tuesday that Manchester United<\/a> are exploring deals<\/a> for both Watkins and RB Leipzig hitman Benjamin Sesko<\/a>.<\/p>\n United have already held talks with Watkins over a possible \u00a360million move while the club\u2019s head of scouting Christopher Vivell has sounded out Sesko who would command a fee in excess of \u00a370m.<\/p>\n Newcastle also remain interested in Sesko<\/a> with the future of Alexander Isak still unclear.<\/p>\n Ruben Amorim<\/a> is desperate to address his side\u2019s woes in front of goal with United having netted just 44 times in the league last season.<\/p>\n But for Jennings, it is an easy choice when choosing which of the two strikers should lead the line at Old Trafford next season.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a really interesting one because both strikers offer something very different in terms of what they do on the pitch but also in terms of what they represent,\u201d he told talkSPORT.<\/p>\n \u201cOllie Watkins is Premier League proven, he\u2019s ready now. Arguably he\u2019s at the peak of his powers today.<\/p>\n \u201cBenjamin Sesko is not Premier League proven, he\u2019s young, he\u2019s not necessarily at the best he\u2019s going to be. Maybe it’s more of a developmental one.<\/p>\n \u201cBut overall I think Sesko has to be the option. I think Sesko is the better player.\u201d<\/p>\n Jennings did not hold back on his assessment of Watkins\u2019 potential move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n 3<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div> Despite having netted 44 goals across the last two seasons, Jennings believes the move would be a sign of the ongoing \u2018mediocrity\u2019 at the club.<\/p>\n \u201cManchester United signing Ollie Watkins – is that not normalising mediocrity again?<\/p>\n \u201cI think he\u2019s a really good Premier League player who will have a glittering Premier League career.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d give everything I have to be as good as Ollie Watkins<\/a> the footballer. I\u2019m not being sneery towards him.<\/p>\n “But to play for Manchester United and for them to get back to their former glory, they need better than a run-of-the-mill good footballer who plays up front.<\/p>\n Jennings highlighted age as a factor in the United\u2019s next costly investment. Watkins turns 30 in December while Sesko recently turned 22.<\/p>\n 3<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div> And Jennings believes that should serve as a huge factor due to the potential of a future sell-on fee and a higher scope when it comes to future development.<\/p>\n \u201cBenjamin Sesko at 22, let’s say he\u2019s signed a three-year deal, imagine the player Manchester United have on their hands in three years time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cCompare that to if they sign Ollie Watkins. Imagine the player they have on their hands in three years time.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be Ollie Watkins coming to the end of his career, it would be Benjamin Sesko finding his feet and coming into his prime.<\/p>\n \u201cOllie Watkins is 10 times the player Rasmus Hojlund<\/a> will ever be, there\u2019s no question about that.<\/p>\n \u201cBut is he good enough for Manchester United?
