Cam Skattebo<\/strong> is making a resounding impact in his early days with the New York Giants<\/strong><\/a>, contrasting sharply with the downward trajectory of fellow college standout Jaxson Dart<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The Arizona State <\/strong>alumni shaping into a statement of intent as the former Sun Devils<\/strong> running back has quickly become one of the standout performers at Giants training camp as per NFL Rookie Watch.<\/p>\n

His dual-threat ability, combining downhill power with receiving versatility, has given the side’s head coach, Brian Daboll<\/strong>, more than enough reason to keep him heavily involved in drills.<\/p>\n

“Handing it to them, tossing it to them, throwing them a screen,” Daboll said, outlining what he looks for. “And then how are his hands? <\/p>\n

“Can you use him in the passing game? He’s got good hands, he’s got soft hands.”<\/p>\n

The praise means he could instantly find himself involved with the Giants <\/strong>on the field when the 2025\/26 NFL season begins, taking some pressure away from Malik Nabers<\/strong> in the receivers corps.<\/p>\n

It would also protect Russell Wilson<\/strong><\/a>, the team’s 36-year-old veteran quarterback, by ensuring he doesn’t have to do any running as he hands the ball off to his 23-year-old colleague.<\/p>\n

Wilson is why Jaxson Dart <\/strong>won’t be beginning the campaign as the starting QB, with the one-time Super Bowl <\/strong>winner joining on a one-year deal. He produced 2,482 passing yards for 16 touchdowns for the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/strong> in 2023\/24, allowing five interceptions.<\/p>\n

His presence, according to NFL Rookie Watch, has already “infected” the Giants<\/strong> locker room and is contributing to a shift in team culture-a rare feat for a rookie just months removed from college competition.<\/p>\n

This shouldn’t actually be news to anyone who tracked his impressive run in AZ, where he played a pivotal role in a season that exceeded all expectations as the team reached the Big 12 Championship game against unlikely odds.<\/p>\n

Skattebo<\/strong>‘s defining moment came against Texas in a high-stakes postseason clash where, despite ASU falling 39-31 in double overtime, the running back posted a staggering 282 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.<\/p>\n

He is the first running back since Christian McCaffrey<\/strong> (2015) to tally over 1500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season, demonstrating his immense quality on the football field.<\/p>\n

He also added 45 receptions for 605 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Big 12 honors, accolades to back up his supreme talent.<\/p>\n

“Skatt is special. You’re gonna miss some of those plays, obviously,” his Sun Devils offensive coordinator, Marcus Arroyo<\/strong>, said in a huge vote of confidence as he heads to the NFL.<\/p>\n

His college chemistry with his quarterback also proved a deep football IQ that has clearly carried over into Giants camp, as he has already been praised for advanced route-running and pass-catching during drills.<\/p>\n

“He runs tough,” Brian Burns<\/strong>, Giants’ edge rusher, said. “He runs behind his pads… <\/p>\n

“I like that he got that edge to him and I feel like he’s (going to) be about what he says.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
