With Europe\u2019s various leagues getting underway in recent weeks, a host of Australia\u2019s top male footballers are beginning their northern hemisphere seasons.<\/p>\n

Some have been in Europe for several years, while others are seeking to splash on the continent.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there are also plenty of Socceroos capped players in Asia or the United States who are well into their current club campaigns.<\/p>\n

ENGLAND<\/b><\/p>\n

Australia is set to be without a regular Premier League player following the relegation of Ipswich Town, who Massimo Luongo<\/b> made 11 appearances for last season – Luongo has since joined fellow Championship side Millwall.<\/p>\n

Australian fans will be hoping a few players on the fringes can step up to play more prominent roles this campaign.<\/p>\n

Goalkeeper Joe Gauci<\/b> remains on the books at Aston Villa, but has been sent to League One side Port Vale on a season-long loan. <\/p>\n

The 25-year-old made two appearances for Villa in the League Cup last campaign before being sent out to League One side Barnsley on loan in January. <\/p>\n

Gauci made seven appearances in the third tier of English football, keeping two clean sheets, as he tries to put pressure on Australia\u2019s No.1 Mat Ryan<\/b>, who remains without a club after leaving French club Lens when his contract expired at the end of June. <\/p>\n

Garang Kuol <\/b>is still on the books at Newcastle United, but the 20-year-old winger only featured for the Magpies U21 side last season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 12 matches.<\/p>\n

Teenager James Overy <\/b>is still with Manchester United\u2019s academy with the 17-year-old defender making nine appearances for the U18s and one for the U21s. <\/p>\n

The Championship, which began last weekend, is where Luongo will be joined by several of his countrymen.<\/p>\n

Fellow former Ipswich Town player Cameron Burgess <\/b>made his debut for Swansea City at centre back in their opening match 1-0 loss at Middlesborough.<\/p>\n

Sammy Silvera <\/b>started for Middlesborugh in left midfield, while goalkeeper Tom Glover <\/b>was an unused substitute and attacking midfielder Riley McGree <\/b>was ruled out of the season opener with injury.<\/p>\n

Nestory Irankunda<\/b> came off the bench for his debut for Watford in their 1-0 loss at Charlton to start the season.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old winger was bought by Watford from Bayern Munich for \u20ac3 million (A$5.3 million) on a five-year deal.<\/p>\n

The German giants inserted a 50% sell-on clause and retained a buy-back option despite Irankunda not making a senior appearance for the Bundesliga champions.<\/p>\n

Lewis Miller <\/b>also made his club as a substitute in Blackburn Rovers\u2019 1-0 defeat at West Brom.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old defender joined Blackburn for \u20ac860,000 from Scottish side Hibernian in April.<\/p>\n

Other Australians to look out for in the Championship include Callum Elder <\/b>for Derby County and the quartet of Hayden Matthews<\/b>, Jacob Farrell<\/b>, Thomas Waddingham<\/b>, and Adrian Segecic<\/b> at Portsmouth.<\/p>\n

Olyroo Segecic made a dream debut with the 21-year-old scoring the match-winner in Portsmouth\u2019s 1-0 victory against Oxford United on the weekend. <\/p>\n

NETHERLANDS<\/b><\/p>\n

Jordan Bos <\/b>made an excellent debut for Dutch outfit Feyenoord in their UEFA Champions League third round qualifying match against Jose Mourinho\u2019s Turkish side Fenerbahce.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Melbourne City product moved from Belgian outfit Westerlo last month on a four-year contract after an impressive two-year spell in the Belgian Pro League as well as having made 19 appearances in national colours since debuting in 2023. <\/p>\n

Bos played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory and endeared himself to the fans as well as new manager, former Manchester United, Arsenal and Netherlands striker Robin van Persie.<\/p>\n

Feyenoord travel to Turkey for the return leg with the winner set to face either Benfica or Nice for a place in the Champions League group stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe played very well in the first half,\u201d Van Persie said of the match. \u201cWe deserved to score more than one goal. My players came out with great energy. We expected that energy in the second half, but it dipped. We struggled in the second half, but we still held on. We had some opportunities, and in the end, we scored a wonderful goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ajdin Hrustic <\/b>recently re-signed with Heracles on a one-year deal after playing in Italy\u2019s Serie B with Salernitana last season.<\/p>\n

Josh Nisbet<\/b> is with Roda JC in the second division.<\/p>\n

SCOTLAND<\/b><\/p>\n

The Scottish Premiership once again boasts several Australians, highlighted by Martin Boyle <\/b>at Hibernian.<\/p>\n

Boyle scored a brace, his 100th and 101st goals for the club, in Hibernian\u2019s 2-0 win against Serbian side FK Partizan in the UEFA Conference League Qualification third-round first leg.<\/p>\n

Keanu Baccus<\/b> is back in Scotland, rejoining St Mirren after a year in England\u2019s League One with Mansfield Town.<\/p>\n

Other Australians to watch out for in Scotland include Ryan McGowan<\/b> for Livingston, Cameron Devlin<\/b> forHeart of Midlothian FC and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos<\/b> for Motherwell, but Ryan Strain <\/b>will be sidelined at Dundee United for the next two months with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

SERBIA<\/b><\/p>\n

Milos Degenek <\/b>has played the full 90 minutes in all four of TSC Backa Topola\u2019s matches to start the new season.<\/p>\n

The centre back has enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign, wearing the captain\u2019s arm band as well as scoring a goal in their 2-1 season opening win and being part of a defensive unit that have conceded only two goals to help the team accumulate seven points from four outings. <\/p>\n

CROATIA<\/b><\/p>\n

\ufeffFran Karacic <\/b>has made a promising start to the season with new club Hajduk Split, appearing in every game so far across their Europa Conference League qualifiers and the Croatian HNL.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old defender has also scored a goal after moving from NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, also in the Croatian top tier, last month.<\/p>\n

NORWAY<\/b><\/p>\n

Nick D\u2019Agostino <\/b>is with Norwegian league leaders Viking FK but the forward has missed most of the season through injury, not scoring a goal in three appearances he has made across Europa Conference League qualifiers and the league campaign. <\/p>\n

SPAIN<\/b><\/p>\n

Awer Mabil <\/b>is with Castellon in the Spanish second division, having scored six goals in 14 appearances at the tail end of last season after joining the club from Grasshoppers in Switzerland.<\/p>\n

Denis Genreau <\/b>is also playing in La Liga 2 for Deportivo de La Coru\u00f1a after he too made a Spanish switch earlier in the year, from French club Toulouse.<\/p>\n

BELGIUM<\/b><\/p>\n

Ryan Teague <\/b>is with KV Mechelent in the Belgian Pro League, having come off the bench twice so far this season.<\/p>\n

DENMARK<\/b><\/p>\n

Mohamed Toure<\/b> is in his second year with Randers where he is joined by goalkeeper Paul Izzo <\/b>in the Danish Superliga.<\/p>\n

Toure has started up front in all four matches so far this season with the 21-year-old scoring one goal and providing two assists.<\/p>\n

ITALY<\/b><\/p>\n

Alessandro Circati <\/b>is still with Serie A side Parma since joining them in 2022.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old defender has made 55 appearances and scored one goal for the club.<\/p>\n

UNITED STATES<\/b><\/p>\n

In Major League Soccer, Aiden O\u2019Neill<\/b> has been a regular in defensive midfield for New York City FC since leaving Belgian club Standard Li\u00e8ge earlier in the year.<\/p>\n

\ufeffKye Rowles <\/b>is another enjoying plenty of playing in the United States this year after the defender left Scottish side Heart of Midlothian for DC United.<\/p>\n

Patrick Yazbek <\/b>is also receiving regular minutes for Nashville.<\/p>\n

JAPAN<\/b><\/p>\n

Thomas Deng <\/b>has made 17 appearances so far this J1 League season for Yokohama F. Marinos and also started in central defence when they played against Liverpool last month as part of the English Premier League champion\u2019s pre-season tour of Asia.<\/p>\n

Mitch Duke <\/b>is also in the Japanese first tier with Machida Zelvia, but the striker has scored just once in 16 league appearances this season, albeit almost all of those have come off the bench.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
