Keely Hodgkinson is poised to make her eagerly-awaited return to competition, more than a year after claiming Olympic gold<\/a> in Paris. The 800m superstar has been made to wait patiently following injury troubles.<\/p>\n

However, she will emerge back into the limelight at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland, this weekend. It signals her first race since that triumphant evening in Paris last summer, concluding a frustrating period of false dawns.<\/p>\n

She was unable to participate<\/a> in February’s Keely Klassic – an event named in her honour – while the recent Diamond League in London arrived just too early as she recovered from hamstring difficulties. Now, the 23-year-old is finally prepared to compete once more, beginning with a non-Diamond League 800m in Silesia before challenging herself just four days later in Lausanne, reports Wales Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the event, Hodgkinson said: “It’s been a long time \u2013 over a year \u2013 since Paris. And it wasn’t my plan to get back on the start line so late, but I’m super happy to be back racing.”<\/p>\n

The Silesia race will occur just before the official two-hour Diamond League broadcast window, but organisers have confirmed the coverage will commence by showing Hodgkinson’s comeback run, ensuring fans don’t miss her long-awaited return. While the field doesn’t include her biggest challengers like Mary Moraa, Tsige Duguma or Athing Mu, it still presents a formidable challenge.<\/p>\n

Botswana’s Oratile Nowe tops this season’s rankings with 1:57.49, whilst Australia’s Abbey Caldwell and Catriona Bisset, America’s Raevyn Rogers, and Slovakia’s Gabriela Gajanova\u0301 \u2013 who finished second to Hodgkinson at last year’s European Championships \u2013 are also competing.<\/p>\n

Hodgkinson added: “I’ve missed it. I’ve missed it a lot. This is what I train to do. I can’t wait to get out there, and I’m going to give it my best and will see what happens.”<\/p>\n

What is Keely Hodgkinson’s net worth?<\/h3>\n

Following her Olympic<\/a> gold medal success in Paris, Hodgkinson’s existence has been completely transformed over the past 12 months. Prior to the Games, her wealth was valued at approximately \u00a3250,000, with a minimum of \u00a339,000 earned from claiming the gold medal, a decent sum but humble in comparison to some of her Team GB<\/a> colleagues.<\/p>\n

“A Sports Personality of the Year win would only serve to amplify this reputation further. She will be looking at earnings surpassing \u00a31m per year over the next Olympic cycle.”<\/p>\n

While her exact net worth is unknown, it’s therefore safe to assume she’s approaching the seven-figure mark, with millionaire status a near certainty if she can maintain her stunning form.<\/p>\n

What was Keely Hodgkinson’s health scare?<\/h3>\n

Hodgkinson’s journey to the summit hasn’t been without serious obstacles. As a teenager, she endured a frightening health crisis when medics found a tumour<\/a> which left her partially deaf in one ear.<\/p>\n

She told Sky Sports<\/a> last year: “It crushed through my hearing bones and was just touching my spine. The decision was whether to take it out or leave it. If it kept growing, it could hit the spine and cause facial palsy – a pretty scary prospect for a 13-year-old.”<\/p>\n

Medical experts tried to preserve the damaged bones, but the condition meant she battled with hearing problems during her youth. The lengthy procedure kept her away from school for a month, and the consequences extended beyond her ear.<\/p>\n

She added: “I couldn’t walk at first because of my balance, which was strange. Thankfully, it all went to plan. They removed it, and now I just have some missing hearing – which isn’t too bad.”<\/p>\n

Is Keely Hodgkinson in a relationship?<\/h3>\n
