Although the U.S. lost, the WBC\u2019s success is a <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fhthdud-jtkdjltkkr-c\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">major win for America\u2019s pastime<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As it happened: <\/strong>Shortstop Trea Turner started the scoring and continued his WBC hot streak with a <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fhthdud-jtkdjltkkr-q\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">massive home run in the second inning<\/a>, but Team Japan\u2019s offense wasted no time responding to USA&#8217;s depleted pitching staff.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Then the face of baseball, LA Angels unicorn Shohei Ohtani, entered from the <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fhthdud-jtkdjltkkr-a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bullpen<\/a> in the ninth inning to secure the final three outs \u2014 with the last coming <a href=\"https:\/\/thegist.createsend1.com\/t\/t-l-fhthdud-jtkdjltkkr-f\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">against his Angels teammate Mike Trout<\/a> \u2014 and lift Japan to their third WBC title.
