A<\/span> fresh wave of speculation over the future of Travis Kelce<\/a><\/strong> has emerged after veteran ESPN<\/strong> analyst Stephen A. Smith<\/strong> proposed that the Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong> star might hang up his cleats.<\/p>\n

As Kelce<\/strong>‘s form nosedives on the field, the outspoken sports commentator has suggested that the 36-year-old’s decision to retire could hinge on matters away from his football career, chiefly his fiance, globally-renowned artist Taylor Swift<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“I will tell you that that’s what I think he’s going to do [retire],” Smith<\/strong> said about Kelce<\/strong>‘s retirement plans. <\/p>\n

“Obviously, he has a beautiful lady in his life, where there’s a lot of good things for him to go home to. And so, because of that, I think the combination of all of those things [would matter].”<\/p>\n

An unwanted distraction for struggling Chiefs<\/h2>\n

The suggestion lands at a precarious moment for the Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong>. This season has been a struggle by the franchise’s high standards, and by Kelce<\/strong>‘s own legacy expectations. <\/p>\n

Through 13 games in 2025, Kelce<\/strong> has been targeted 83 times but converted only 60 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns – a noticeable dip from his peak years. However, it still ranks him second in the tight end standings for endzone contributions.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the Chiefs<\/strong> dropped a critical game to the Houston Texans<\/strong>, during which Kelce<\/strong> was held to one catch for eight yards despite five targets.<\/p>\n

That drop in production has only fueled the retirement debate. Some within the league view the physical toll of another full NFL<\/strong> season – especially with visible decline – as a valid reason for retirement. <\/p>\n
