{"id":218663,"date":"2025-12-17T11:25:46","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T11:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/17\/bingwafest-heads-to-merus-kinoru-stadium-for-central-regions-showdow-athletics-news\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T11:25:46","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T11:25:46","slug":"bingwafest-heads-to-merus-kinoru-stadium-for-central-regions-showdow-athletics-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/17\/bingwafest-heads-to-merus-kinoru-stadium-for-central-regions-showdow-athletics-news\/","title":{"rendered":"BingwaFest\u00a0Heads to Meru\u2019s\u00a0Kinoru\u00a0Stadium\u00a0For\u00a0Central Region\u2019s Showdow &#8211; Athletics News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meru,&nbsp;December 17,&nbsp;2025:&nbsp;<\/strong>The&nbsp;Central Region&nbsp;Edition of the&nbsp;second season of&nbsp;Betika&nbsp;BingwaFest&nbsp;kicked off on Monday, December 15th&nbsp;and is set to culminate with the finals on&nbsp;Sunday, December 21st&nbsp;at the&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;Stadium, Meru.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than 600 athletes have registered to participate as they aim to have a share of more than KES 6M that will be up for grabs in the various track disciplines. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Naomi Chepngeno and Diana Cherotich highlight the women&#8217;s 10,000m and 5,000m races, while Yegon Kipkirui and&nbsp;Josphat Kipchirchir are the athletes to watch in the men&#8217;s races.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gold medalists in the lucrative 10,000m will take home KES 300,000, as the first and second runners-up will pocket KES 250,000 and KES 200,000, respectively. The athletes who finish fourth and fifth will round off the prize bracket and will receive KES 100,000 and KES 75,000 in that order.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the 5,000m category, winners will be awarded KES 250,000, second-place finishers KES 150,000, third place KES 100,000, fourth place KES 50,000, and fifth place KES 30,000. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prizes for the top five in the 100m, 4000m, 800m, and 1,500m will be the same, with gold medalists receiving KES 150,000, silver medalists KES 100,000, and bronze medalists KES 60,000. The fourth and fifth place finishers will pocket KES 30,000 and KES 20,000.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Defending champions in the women&#8217;s football,&nbsp;Gachanka&nbsp;Queens, were off to a perfect start as they hammered&nbsp;Isiolo&nbsp;United Ladies 4-0 in their opening match to stay on course in their title defense attempt, with Al&nbsp;Azizia&nbsp;also setting their eyes on claiming the men&#8217;s title again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Football&nbsp;will be played at&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;Primary School Grounds, Kaaga Girls Grounds, and Meru School Grounds before moving to&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;Stadium on Sunday for the finals.&nbsp;Rugby will be played at Meru School and Kaaga Girls&#8217; pitches, while athletics and basketball will be staged at&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;Stadium.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meru Nets captain Malvin Maingi is looking forward&nbsp;to featuring in the second edition and is hoping to push his team to a better finish in the 3&#215;3 basketball, adding that the&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;Stadium court installed during the first edition has helped them prepare well this time around.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Coming back for a second edition is an incredible feeling. We return for the second edition ready to&nbsp;represent&nbsp;Meru and better our finish from last year. It is a privilege to play. Our mission&nbsp;to&nbsp;inspire and help make Meru basketball nationally recognized. Over the past year,&nbsp;Kinoru&nbsp;has truly become our home. The court has&nbsp;come in handy in our preparation and has been a good infrastructure for the whole community, being&nbsp;the&nbsp;first public basketball&nbsp;court&nbsp;in the area. What started as a court has grown into a community, and we are proud to be part of that growth,&#8221;&nbsp;Maingi said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Betika&nbsp;Head of Brand, Eric Mwiti, said: &#8220;Meru has been&nbsp;good hosts&nbsp;and that is why we are happy to be heading back there. Just like&nbsp;in the first edition, we are hoping to see huge turnout by the fans&nbsp;as they come to cheer their teams.&nbsp;Our commitment has always been to grow grassroots talent and create platforms where young men and women can&nbsp;showcase&nbsp;their skills, be discovered, and inspired to dream bigger.&#8221; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second season of the multi-disciplinary sports extravaganza kicked off in August as Nakuru hosted the Rift Valley Region event at the&nbsp;Afraha&nbsp;Stadium before moving to Siaya County for the Nyanza Region leg, then to Machakos County for the Eastern Region chapter, followed by Nairobi last month.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Winners in football and rugby, both men and women, will pocket KES 1 million each, while the winning teams in the 3\u00d73 basketball will go home KES 500,000 richer. The first runners-up for football and rugby will be awarded KES 500,000, while the second runners-up are set to receive KES 250,000.
