Two leagues \u2014 League One Volleyball (LOVB) and Major League Volleyball (MLV) \u2014 will begin their second and third seasons, respectively, this week, so we\u2019re <em>serving <\/em>up a deep dive on the <a href=\"https:\/\/espnpressroom.com\/us\/press-releases\/2025\/12\/aced-it-espn-scored-most-watched-2025-ncaa-womens-college-volleyball-season-on-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surging sport<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udcda The background: <\/strong>LOVB burst onto the scene with six teams last January, boasting a star-studded roster that included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegistsports.com\/article\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-lovb-pvf-and-the-evolving-volleyball-landscape\/#:~:text=Now%20for%20the%20starpower.%20LOVB%20features%20some%20of%20the%20game%E2%80%99s%20best%2C%20including%20a%20whopping%2075%25%20of%20the%20Team%20USA%20roster%20that%20took%20silver%20at%20the%202024%20Paris%20Olympics.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">75% of the most recent Team USA Olympic squad<\/a>. And while the pro league launched in 2025, LOVB was first founded in 2020 as a network of youth volleyball clubs. From the ground up, baby.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As for MLV, you might recognize the team names from what was previously the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF). In August 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/04\/pro-volleyball-federation-major-league-volleyball-to-merge-expand-in-third-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the PVF merged with MLV<\/a>, yet <em>another<\/em> new league poised to enter the already crowded market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Both LOVB and MLV will expand by three teams each in 2027. LOVB is adding squads in LA, Minnesota, and San Francisco, and MLV in Washington, D.C., Minnesota, and Northern California. Despite the overlap, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/06\/what-to-watch-as-lovb-major-league-volleyball-forge-different-paths-for-growth\/#:~:text=Competition%2C%20if%20not,their%20organizations%20merging.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">there are currently no plans<\/a> for the two leagues to merge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udc4b Defending champ LOVB Austin opens season with rematch against Nebraska: <\/strong>What do you get when you put reigning league MVP Madisen Skinner (Austin) against the GOAT (and <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/50UdVVP2ctB8lbnbJYfBvT?si=89834c7f21d64ed0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">friend of The GIST<\/a>) Jordan Larson (Nebraska)? It all goes down tonight at 6 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u270c\ufe0f MLV begins season with a fiery doubleheader: <\/strong>There are two matches on tomorrow\u2019s opening slate: Columbus Fury vs. Atlanta Vibe at 7 p.m. ET and San Diego Mojo vs. Omaha Supernovas at 8 p.m ET. The late tilt features Team USA libero Morgan Hentz (Omaha), now a three-time MLV Preseason All-League pick.
