Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> are now keen on signing an “exceptional” Championship star, who has been compared to Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

\n Wolves eyeing new striker amid attacking woes<\/strong>

It has been a season to forget for Wolves, who are near-certain to be relegated from the Premier League<\/a>, having scored just 18 goals all season, which leaves them a whopping 17 points adrift of safety.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Rob Edwards<\/a>‘ side came up short against Crystal Palace, losing 1-0 at Selhurst Park, after Tolu Arokodare’s first-half penalty was saved by Dean Henderson.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Molineux in the summer, scoring only two Premier League goals, but Edwards<\/a> refused to be too critical of his striker, saying: “He felt confident. He was brave and stepped up, and it can happen. I\u2019m never going to come out and criticise him for missing a penalty.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Tolu\u2019s our number nine and felt positive over the ball. In that moment, it\u2019s important you don\u2019t change. There can be a number of people who want to take it, but Tolu was designated one and wanted to take it at that time.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The Old Gold strengthened their forward line by signing Adam Armstrong from Southampton during the January transfer window, but they remain keen on bringing in a new striker this summer.<\/p>\n

According to a report from Sports Boom, Wolves have now entered the race to sign Swansea City star Zan Vipotnik<\/a>, whose impressive form this season has sparked interest from a number of Premier League sides.<\/p>\n

Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are also in the picture to sign Vipotnik, who has been compared to Arsenal star Gyokeres due to his style of play.<\/p>\n

Although the Jacks are currently sitting in 15th place, their Slovenian striker is on course to win the Golden Boot, having netted 16 goals in 31 appearances, which is more than any other player in the second tier.<\/p>\n

The Swansea star has been in red-hot form over the past month or so, chipping in with six goals and one assist in his last seven Championship outings, and he received plaudits from former manager Alan Sheehan after scoring a brace against Norwich City in October.<\/p>\n

Sheehan<\/a> said: “He (Vipotnik) was exceptional, they\u2019re high level goals, and you\u2019ve seen a player that\u2019s really enjoying his football.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Having already signed Armstrong, who scored 11 Championship goals for Southampton this season prior to his move to Molineux, Wolves could be forming a fearsome striker partnership if they manage to get a deal for Vipotnik over the line too…<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
