Ryan Giggs has waxed lyrical about Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, praising his impact on the team.<\/p>\n
Lammens joined Manchester United last summer, replacing error-prone Andre Onana<\/a>, who left the club on loan for Trabzonspor<\/a>. The former has since established himself as a reliable goalkepeer, impressing with his top-tier shot-stopping, high-claim ability on crosses and a calm presence.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \nThanks for the submission!\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/template><\/p>\n Speaking on the Webby and O\u2019Neil podcast<\/a>, Giggs had nothing but high praise for Lammens, saying his \u2018biggest compliment\u2019 for the 23-year-old is that people do not talk about him.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/template><\/p>\n \u201cUsually the best goalkeepers, you don\u2019t talk about them,\u201d Giggs said. \u201cYou only talk about them when they make mistakes. They just get on with their job, they make the saves that they need to. He\u2019ll come and claim crosses, he\u2019ll claim corners, and that is massive for a team that a goalkeeper can do that. It looks like he\u2019s been there years.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Giggs also gave credit to Manchester United<\/a>\u2019s recruitment team for not chasing a big name but going for a goalkeeper with the right mentality and technique. He added:<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we knew Onana was going, there was the clamour for Donnarumma, \u2018we\u2019ve got to get a top goalkeeper\u2019, you have to give credit to the recruitment, they\u2019ve seen this guy, he has been a bargain and not many people knew too much about him. It\u2019s a massive role at a massive club. He\u2019s got the right mentality and the right technique for a goalkeeper. The biggest compliment I can give him, we don\u2019t talk about him.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n So far, Lammens has kept five clean sheets for the Red Devils in 26 appearances across all competitions.<\/p>\n Manchester United\u2019s chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton backed Lammens to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world if he keeps working hard and doing what he does. For Coton, Lammens has all the \u2018tools\u2019 and \u2018mental capacity\u2019 to succeed as a goalkeeper.<\/p>\n \u201cHe’s got all the tools,\u201d said Coton during his appearance on the Inside Carrington podcast. \u201cAll the tools and he’s got the mental capacity to cope with it, as we’ve seen. I don’t want to compare him to anyone. He is Senne Lammens and he is himself. If he keeps working as hard as he is doing and, if we get those little things tidied up, he can be one of the world’s best. I’m sure he can.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Coton also revealed how United were able to sign Lammens, stating that he had been keeping tabs on the Belgian since 2019, when he was at Club Brugge<\/a>. He noted that he was attracted to Lammens\u2019 desire to protect his goal and physical presence and is not surprised that the goalkeeper has hit the ground running at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
