Out of nowhere, Kevin Pietersen said his time playing for England stopped sooner than it should have because he clashed with officials over joining the Indian Premier League. He told YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia that the cricket board turned reporters into weapons, hunting him down like prey when the IPL first started. Back then, in 2008, England banned central contract holders from taking part \u2013 only one man, Dimitri Mascarenhas, slipped through. A year later, they loosened up just enough to let players go for three weeks. That summer, Pietersen signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore, now called Bengaluru, choosing the franchise path while tension built behind closed doors<\/p>\n
\u201cI made big sacrifices. I lost my career. That\u2019s the reason why everybody in that establishment went against me,\u201d he said. \u201cI was 33 when my England career finished, after 104 Test matches. I should have played 150-160 Tests and scored 12,000-13,000 runs. That\u2019s what I should have achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ECB used The Telegraph to go after me\u2026 I don\u2019t want to go too deep into it. It was well-publicized, and I live a very happy, peaceful life now,\u201d Pietersen added.<\/p>\n
With 8,181 runs under his belt \u2013 23 hundreds, 35 fifties \u2013 Pietersen closed the book on his Test days. His position might have cost him opportunities, some say. Yet he sees it differently: that stand opened doors later, let younger England players step into franchise games without fear.<\/p>\n
\u201cI interviewed Jos Buttler a few days ago, and he also said \u2018thank you.\u2019 Because of the sacrifices I made, these guys can enjoy the fruits now,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Pietersen later turned up for Delhi Daredevils before shifting to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. By 2025, he had stepped into the role of mentor at Delhi Capitals.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
