The basketball Hall of Famer and his son played catch on the gridiron.<\/p>\n<p>The Anthonys attended the game, which was supervised by Orange coach Fran Brown, ahead of the 2026 college football season. Both Carmelo and Kiyan embraced Brown afterward.<\/p>\n<p><template id=\"also-read-articles-template\"><\/p>\n<p><\/template><\/p>\n<p>Syracuse football and men&#8217;s basketball had forgettable campaigns in the past year. The football team finished the regular season with a 3-9 record, winning just one conference game. That meant they missed out on partaking in a bowl game.<\/p>\n<p>Syracuse&#8217;s male basketball team didn&#8217;t fare much better. The Orange finished 15-17 (6-12) and missed out on a spot in March Madness. Those performances marked the end of Adrian Autry&#8217;s tenure. Gerry McNamara has been appointed as their new coach entering the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n<h2>Kiyan Anthony is running it back with Carmelo Anthony&#8217;s Alma mater<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/college-basketball\/is-kiyan-anthony-returning-syracuse-carmelo-anthony-s-son-gives-major-update-collegiate-career\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Kiyan Anthony<\/a> turned down numerous Division I offers to play for his father&#8217;s Alma mater, Syracuse University. Carmelo Anthony spent one season with the Orange and inspired them to the 2003 national championship.<\/p>\n<p>The younger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/college-basketball\/news-watch-20m-woth-la-la-anthony-hypes-son-kiyan-anthony-leads-syracuse-victory-nail-biting-game-vs-smu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Anthony<\/a> played his part in a freshman season filled with learning curves. He came off the bench for majority of the season averaging 8.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game in 29 games.<\/p>\n<p>According to ESPN, Anthony made an announcement on Instagram on Wednesday, captioned &#8220;The Right Way.&#8221; He will be spending at least one more season in college playing basketball for the school his father attended.<\/p>\n<p>Kiyan Anthony was famously benched in a February defeat to the Virginia Cavaliers, and his dad later wrote on social media that he believed the move would help his son down the road.
