The Bucks were struggling, Antetokounmpo was visibly frustrated and the timing just made sense.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Antetokounmpo stayed put. Ironically, he drew some backlash on social media for celebrating not being traded after spending weeks flirting with the possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with the team losing 50 games and him out with an injury, the former Finals MVP re-ignited trade rumors with some non-committal comments to the media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn&#8217;t know if he&#8217;ll be traded<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a very good question,\u201d Antetokounmpo told the media when asked whether he had played his last game for the Bucks,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7191915\/2026\/04\/12\/giannis-antetokounmpo-responds-doc-rivers-bucks\/?unlocked_article_code=1.alA.Edle.JCJhbHUyfw2m&amp;source=athletic_user_shared_gift_article_copylink&amp;smid=url-share-ta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0per<\/a> The Athletic. \u201cI don\u2019t know. It\u2019s not up to me anymore. It\u2019s not up to me. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Antetokounmpo played in only 36 games this season, the fewest in his career. He&#8217;s usually been a durable player, having suited up for at least 61 games in every season.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s also why he was so frustrated when the Bucks shut him down for the season, even though he said he was healthy enough to play. When asked about that, he unleashed against the Bucks&#8217; decision-makers.<\/p>\n<h2>Giannis Antetokounmpo calls out Bucks over lack of control<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI have never in my life denied participation (in) practice, which whoever says that \u2014 I don\u2019t know who said that, who came up with that \u2014 that\u2019s disrespectful towards what I\u2019ve done for this team and the way I carry myself my whole career,\u201d Antetokounmpo continued. \u201cSo, I thought I had control, kind of like, &#8216;If I\u2019m healthy, I\u2019m going to play.&#8217; But this shows me that we \u2014 not just me, players in general \u2014 don\u2019t have no control.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time that he&#8217;s opened up about this. He claimed that recent comments by Bucks co-owner Wes Edens were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nba\/articles\/giannis_says_co_owners_comments_a_slap_in_my_face\/s1_14822_43690128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a &#8220;slap to the face.&#8221;<\/a> That \u2014 not even the losing season \u2014 might be what actually drives him away from Milwaukee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn&#8217;t been offered a contract extension<\/h2>\n<p>Antetokounmpo still has one year left in his contract and a player option worth $62.8M for the 2027-28 season. The Bucks could offer him a contract extension now, but it looks like they&#8217;re still on the fence with that situation.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Antetokounmpo acknowledged that it was still too soon to even know whether he would want to sign an extension.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOh, that\u2019s too far away. It\u2019s something I gotta sit down, see, talk with my family, see what\u2019s best for me and what\u2019s best for my family, for my career. If that\u2019s the best scenario, I will definitely want to do that. But before we even talk about an extension, somebody (has) gotta offer me that. I haven\u2019t been offered an extension, so that\u2019s too far.
