Mumbai Indians aren\u2019t rushing any decisions when it comes to Rohit Sharma\u2019s spot in the upcoming match against Punjab Kings. He got hurt while batting during the run chase against Royal Challengers Bangalore. It happened in the sixth over\u2014Rohit needed the physio, and things stalled for a bit. He walked back for treatment, came back out for a defensive shot, but then retired hurt right after.<\/p>\n
Cricbuzz reported that Rohit went for scans to get a better idea of what\u2019s actually going on. Before this latest game, MI shared a few updates too, including news that Will Jacks is set to join the squad soon.<\/p>\n
Right now, the team\u2019s doctors and coaches are still checking on Rohit. \u201cWill Jacks is on his way and should be here soon. As for Rohit, the medical team and coaching staff are assessing him. We\u2019ll get to know more as and when there is an update,\u201d said an MI spokesperson.<\/p>\n
Now, if Rohit sits this one out, MI has to shuffle things at the top. They could team up Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, but that does use up a valuable overseas player slot. There\u2019s also Naman Dhir\u2014he spoke at the pre-match press conference and seemed game for any challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo sir, nothing like that has been discussed yet. The management knows everything, so we\u2019ll probably find out tomorrow about the batting order,\u201d Dhir said. \u201cI\u2019m ready to bat anywhere. I\u2019ve done it last year as well\u2014at No. 5 and No. 7. So I\u2019m prepared for any role, even if it\u2019s opening.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dhir hasn\u2019t opened for MI in the IPL yet, but it\u2019s on the table. Another idea? Suryakumar Yadav pairing with Rickelton at the top. Suryakumar\u2019s no stranger to that role\u2014he\u2019s opened 12 times for MI and scored 441 runs doing so. Right now, Mumbai Indians sit ninth in the table, hungry for a win to snap their losing streak.<\/p>\n
As for Rohit\u2019s season? He\u2019s got 137 runs from four games so far in IPL 2026.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
