Liam Rosenior was sacked as Chelsea head coach on Wednesday as the team endures its worst run of results since 1912.<\/p>\n
Tuesday’s 3-0 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion marked Chelsea’s fifth straight league defeat without scoring a goal. The club cited “recent results and performances” as the reason for Rosenior’s dismissal.<\/p>\n
“I have defended the players at times when it was the correct thing, but I can’t defend that performance. It doesn’t represent this football club, it doesn’t represent anything I ask from the group, and that has to change,” Rosenior said<\/a> after the one-sided loss at Brighton.<\/p>\n “I feel numb, I’m so angry. I always speak on what I see, and that was unacceptable.”<\/p>\n Rosenior, 41, took control of Chelsea in January after moving from Ligue 1’s Strasbourg, who are also under BlueCo ownership. He signed a contract until June 2032, indicating the club was entering a long-term project.<\/p>\n However, the recent slump in form led Chelsea to change directions once more.<\/p>\n Rosenior’s previous spells in management included an interim stint at Derby County in 2022, followed by 18 months at Hull City, which ended with his dismissal in May 2024.<\/p>\n Calum McFarlane is taking interim charge of the senior squad. He oversaw a 1-1 draw at Manchester City and a 2-1 defeat at Fulham between Enzo Maresca and Rosenior’s tenures early in January.<\/p>\n The Blues are seven points behind the final Champions League qualification place with four matches left in their season. They’re five points closer to Tottenham Hotspur, who are in the relegation zone, than to first-place Arsenal.<\/p>\n Outgoing Bournemouth tactician Andoni Iraola, Fulham manager Marco Silva, and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic are under consideration as potential successors for Rosenior, sources told BBC Sport’s Bobbie Jackson<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chelsea would prefer to hire a head coach with experience at the highest level after the appointments of Graham Potter, Maresca, and Rosenior failed to meet expectations, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law<\/a>.
