Pundit Ian Wright has weighed in on Arsenal’s performance after their narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League. The Gunners returned to the summit of the league standings following their hard-fought win over the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium. <\/p>\n
Mikel Arteta<\/a>‘s side returned to winning ways in the league but were made to work hard for their three points, and were left hanging on at the end. Their poor run of form allowed City to catch up with them in the league standings, setting up a tense final few weeks of the campaign. <\/p>\n Arsenal were far from comfortable but got the job done against the Magpies, inflicting a fifth successive defeat on Eddie Howe’s side. They have a three-point gap atop the standings once more, having played a game more than Pep Guardiola<\/a>‘s side. <\/p>\n Arsenal overcame Newcastle United in a tense encounter to return to winning ways after consecutive league defeats. The Gunners won 1-0 in front of their fans as they dislodged Manchester City from the summit of the standings. <\/p>\n Mikel Arteta retained most of the XI that lost to City last weekend, and his decision was justified as Kai Havertz<\/a> and Eberechi Eze combined for the opener. Havertz received a short corner before laying the ball off for Eze to aim a clean strike into the top corner after nine minutes. <\/p>\n The Gunners defended resolutely but were dealt blows as Havertz and Eze came off with physical issues in either half. They had David Raya to thank for three saves, as he kept his 16th league clean sheet of the season. They saw Bukayo Saka return from his injury layoff in the closing stages of the encounter in a boost to their title hopes. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
