Sophia Wilson has scored her first goal, since her return from maternity leave. <\/p>\n

The striker scored the game-winning goal of Portland\u2019s 2-1 victory over Angel City FC. Wilson\u2019s goal occurred in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time. Wilson \u2014 who gave birth to her daughter Gianna \u201cGigi\u201d Wilson in September 2025 \u2014 went one-on-one with Angel City goalkeeper Angelina Anderson, before slotting the ball to the opposite low corner.<\/p>\n

The forward recently made her return to the U.S. women\u2019s national team<\/a><\/strong> earlier this month. In the National Women\u2019s Soccer League<\/a><\/strong>, Wilson has made three starts in six matches, logging 337 minutes.<\/p>\n

In the match against Angel City, Portland \u2014 who are currently second on the NWSL table with 13 points, just behind the San Diego Wave \u2014 took the lead in the 76th minute with a goal from Pietra Tordin. Wilson scored in the 95th minute, but Angel City refused to let McKenzie Arnold and company record a clean sheet. Angel City scored in the 98th minute, thanks to Zambian international Prisca Chilufya.<\/p>\n

Wilson\u2019s goal occurred two minutes later, giving the Thorns, who were the visiting team, the win and three points. Portland will return to Providence Park on Wednesday to host San Diego in a battle for the top spot on the league table.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Angel City FC will remain at home and host the Utah Royals on Saturday.<\/p>\n
