I was not thinking about racing Leadville. So as early as I started actually racing, the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/life-time-grand-prix\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/life-time-grand-prix\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/life-time-grand-prix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Life Time Grand Prix<\/a> was something on my radar. Now I think [Unbound] is the race that is most exciting to me,&#8221; Decker told <em>Cyclingnews<\/em> prior to the start of her 2026 season, and a third time in the Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;I am doing the Traka 200 [again]. Last year I did it because it was a more competitive race, it was a stacked field. I definitely want to race a competitive race, if I&#8217;m going all the way to Europe. I actually enjoy the repetition of going back to the same places.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Two years ago Decker began her cycling career with top 10s at a string of Belgian Waffle Rides in the US &#8211; Arizona, Utah and California. She made the selection in the Life Time Grand Prix, consistent results placing her sixth overall. But it was a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/gravel-earth-global-events-2024\/the-rift-gravel\/results\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/gravel-earth-global-events-2024\/the-rift-gravel\/results\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/gravel-earth-global-events-2024\/the-rift-gravel\/results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">victory at The Rift<\/a>, a former stop on the Gravel World Series, where she made her first statement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slice-container-newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-jjEMmiepMJGxttJP2Lb4wY\" class=\"slice-container newsletter-inbodyContent-slice newsletterForm-articleInbodyContent-jjEMmiepMJGxttJP2Lb4wY slice-container-newsletterForm\">\n<div data-hydrate=\"true\" class=\"newsletter-form__wrapper newsletter-form__wrapper--inbodyContent\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form__container\">\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__top-bar\"\/>\n<section class=\"newsletter-form__main-section\">\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Then Decker ignited her gravel career last season when she strung together several key performances &#8211; third at Sea Otter Gravel, fourth at The Traka 200 and then survived from a breakaway to go <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/unbound-gravel-2025\/ltgp-2-unbound-200-elite-women\/results\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/unbound-gravel-2025\/ltgp-2-unbound-200-elite-women\/results\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/races\/unbound-gravel-2025\/ltgp-2-unbound-200-elite-women\/results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second at Unbound Gravel 200<\/a>. The 27-year-old added third overall at Leadville and would finish second overall in the Life Time Grand Prix. Though record books reflect no wins, these races were &#8216;wins&#8217; for a rider who had to leave the US ski team behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve always had expectations of myself, but now other people also have those expectations of me,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;I was on the US Ski Team for a few years, and then had a really bad knee injury, and that&#8217;s kind of what got me into riding more. It was more of a chronic thing, the knee. My meniscus was torn, but in such a way that the fluid from the inside of my knee was kind of building up. On the bike, it was actually not that bad. I surprised myself. I came into that with expectations far below what I was able to do. And then Leadville would be my second [best memory] because it&#8217;s not really a race that suits me. I put a lot of work into it and I was just super, super happy with how that turned out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Decker grew up in Saranac Lake, New York, went to college at Montana State University and now lives at elevation in New Mexico. The travel for gravel is similar to her previous passion for powder.
